A doll is a special trinket. Like many other trinkets, a doll can be held when taking a portrait.
Ringer/Ocean Master dolls
The most coveted of dolls are those depicting one of the Ocean Masters or Ringers. Twenty-eight OMs and thirteen of the Ringers have dolls. (There is no Eris or Calliope doll.)
A Ringer/Ocean Master doll would be given out only by the OM or Ringer who is depicted. (The one exception being Shiny Sun Point prizes; several retired OMs gave permission for their dolls to be included on the prize list.) They do not give out dolls on demand.
For details on how to earn one in an event, please see the events page. For dolls where there is no contest nor guidelines for winning one, the OM must feel that you deserve one to be awarded it. There is no other way to obtain dolls, apart from buying them from other players.

The ghost doll is available from the Haunted Seas.
During Halloween 2012, pirates could earn special trinkets which could be redeemed for various monster dolls (skellie, werewolf, and zombie). These dolls were subsequently made available from trading posts in exchange for skellie skulls, werewolf tufts of fur, and zombie hands, rather than candy trinkets.
During Halloween 2013, pirates had another chance to earn these special trinkets again, this time redeemable for Frankenstein's monster, goblin, and/or vampire dolls.
During Halloween 2014, pirates had a chance of winning Ghastly candy trinkets from Sea Monster Hunts and Brigand King battles. These trinkets could be traded in for witch, mummy, and lantern king dolls.
During Halloween 2015, pirates had another chance to win Ghastly trinkets from Sea Monster Hunts and Brigand King battles. These trinkets could be traded in for space oddity, cat lass, and sea creature dolls.
Other dolls
There are a few additional dolls that do not fall into the other categories. Unlike the others listed above, these dolls cannot be held in portraits.

The cult doll is available from the Cursed Isles. The others are player-designed trinkets; the corn husk doll is available during autumn, the black cat doll during Halloween, and the snowman doll is available during Christmas.
