Just to inform you, I will be taking over for Eurydice as Managing Editor this month. Do not hesitate to ask if you need anything. --Bia 17:46, 6 September 2005 (PDT)

Badge tables

Very pretty tables, mind if I steal and apply to the tables on the badge page as well?--Vurogj 15:16, 21 October 2005 (PDT)

Always feel free to steal anything pretty from me :) I actually learned it from Yaten & Wikipedia, so I blame him! --Guppymomma 15:34, 21 October 2005 (PDT)

Editing manager

You've been pretty quiet. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything I can do!

/job Redirect

The redirect of the /job article to Job didn't work, since the Job article already redirects to Labor. I just thought I'd let you know.--Zyborg22 16:57, 31 October 2005 (PST)

Uhm, /job redirects to job (command), so I'm not sure what you're talking about. --Guppymomma 17:07, 31 October 2005 (PST)

Thanks!

I couldn't figure out how to do that. My Wiki skills are weak.

Thanks from me, too. :) I'm afraid I'm a bit boochy with capitalization. :/ --Marskiel

Minor error in Sage PDF

Looking at the Sage Ocean PDF, I noticed a small error in the Scurvy-Ambush route. It should be two leagues SE, then one league east. The correct route is on the Ambush Island page. – Yaten talk 14:00, 5 November 2005 (PST)

Thanks, I'll fix it when I go back home later this week. --Guppymomma 19:45, 5 November 2005 (PST)
Back! Fixified. Thanks! --Guppymomma 21:46, 9 November 2005 (PST)

Decay test

You should add the colors of the clothing and the sword to your decay test. Expensive stuff lasts longer. --Barrister 21:22, 17 November 2005 (PST)

Okey dokey. I figured I'd run another test to see if color mattered. I thought that only things like fine cloth vs normal cloth made a difference. FYI though, all the clothing is just white & the foil is yellow hilt, red guard I think. --Guppymomma 07:51, 18 November 2005 (PST)

Locks?

Can you take a look at the E2 forum thread and see if you can tell what's causing the problem people are reporting there?

TOC Right & Official Documentation

The right TOC does look good in the wiki, but have a look at the appropriate page on the staging site (/Drinking.xhtml) and let me know whether you think it looks okay - if so, that might be something we'd want to apply to the other official pages.  :) -Lizthegrey 11:44, 16 January 2006 (PST)

It's hard to say. I think it works best on the wiki because it's set apart with the shaded outlined table. Does the xml translator do the tables? If so, I can take a gander at a TOCright made specifically for the official pages that will help with that. That said, I took a look at it with the normal inline TOC and feel pretty certain putting it to the right is a better idea as it allows folks to see a bit of the documentation without scrolling (I tend to design for the terminally lazy ;)). BTW, how long does the staging site take to "update" to see what looks better? --Guppymomma 12:26, 16 January 2006 (PST)

Spelling errors / typos on Drinking official documention page

These mistakes were present on the original official drinking documentation web page:

  • warf -> wharf
  • cleard -> cleared

When you have time, could you correct these? Thanks! -- Faulkston 22:24, 16 January 2006 (PST)

I got 'em. --Barrister 00:35, 17 January 2006 (PST)
Yay for Faulkston's sharp eye and Barrister's fixin'! If you spot any other misspellings, you can either tell one of us or just note it on the talk page of that official documentation page (their talk pages aren't protected). --Guppymomma 12:09, 17 January 2006 (PST)
I can only claim credit for checking the transcribed YPPedia text, not for originally pointing out the spelling errors - that credit goes to mournful and Julephenia. I did not know that the talk pages for the official documentation pages were not protected (and there is no reason that they would be so automatically). I wondered where to put the comments - I'll know where to put them in future. -- Faulkston 19:09, 17 January 2006 (PST)

official pages

We're working through batch-updating things, so any edits you do might get clobbered - once everything's up and running, we'll probably come up with a list of what's meant to be edited only by OM's and what's for player volunteer wiki admins as well. -Lizthegrey 22:15, 24 January 2006 (PST)

Okey dokey. BTW, you might want to either figure out a batch process to protect all the official doc images or get someone to protect the big pile you uploaded. I'm happy to give a hand doing that if you need. --Guppymomma 07:06, 25 January 2006 (PST)
They're batch protected via database stealth-edit, because that was easier than trying to script it and cause the entries to show in the protection log. -Lizthegrey 22:10, 25 January 2006 (PST)

PNG transparency

I couldn't remember how to fix it, but I've noticed that some of the icons on the Main Page don't display correctly in Internet Explorer. Can you take a look? Thanks! --Yaten talk 20:45, 30 January 2006 (PST)

As soon as uploading works again I can upload fixed ones. I just switched it to PNG8 with alpha channel transparency and it seems to look okay in IE. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate IE? :) --Guppymomma 07:08, 1 February 2006 (PST)

Java

Know anything about java? i got a problem not letting me play Ypp and need some help with it --32083 20:26, 4 February 2006 (PST) thanks

Nope. You need to post in the Technical Issues forum where Three Rings' support staff can give you a hand. --Guppymomma 20:51, 4 February 2006 (PST)

already tried that but it seems like no one is interested in helping me :P . which seems wierd since im a paying customer :P lol

I wouldn't call the several replies that your thread received "no one" helping you. I know nothing about java, but doesn't the full install install java? The only other advice I can give is that I vaguely recall advice in another thread about java being to complete uninstall all versions of java on your computer and reinstall the current version of java, then reinstall the game. --Guppymomma 15:46, 5 February 2006 (PST)

Wishlist images

Did you see my question about island images on YPPedia talk:Wishlist? It might have gotten lost in the massive edits today. --Barrister 20:33, 5 February 2006 (PST)

Yeah, of course I uh spotted it right away....right after you mentioned it :) I've stuck that baby on my watchlist now. D'oh. Blue is good, ocean yes. Thanks! --Guppymomma 07:23, 6 February 2006 (PST)

E2 Template

Is there anything in the E2 template that relies on the Proposal part of the Proposal_xyz? I want to move the shortlisted entries to something like Event_E2/Event_xyz or the like. Will the rename break things?

I also wonder if you (group wiki you, not individual guppy you) might consider the long term values of keeping the shortlisted entries, anyway, as the beginning of a namespace on Events. I think it'd be a very useful resource to have a history of major events, rules, winners, etc that have been run on the various oceans. People who wanted to run new events could refer there for ideas, potential pitfalls, and such. --Jacquilynne / Jasandrea 11:30, 10 February 2006 (PST)

Hmmmm the rename would change some parts of the template. Actually, if you just wanted them in a shortlisted category, then you could just switch the template that's being used instead of the name. Let me setup an example with your fake entry. And there aren't any actual plans to remove any of the entries as far as I know, but if someone is wanting to do that I'd advocate for keeping at least the shortlist ones because as you said, these are great examples for folks wanting to do events. --Guppymomma 12:14, 10 February 2006 (PST)

Templates

For Template:olympiad, I was wondering if there is a way to move the template to make it display in the top-left of each page, like the flag infoboxes do. I'd like to fiddle a little with the formatting, but I appear to be at an impasse. I'll keep fiddling, but I figured I'd ask anyway. --Feegle 11:11, 20 February 2006 (PST)

That's excellent. I'll twek it as soon as the image uploading is fixed. --Feegle 13:21, 20 February 2006 (PST)

Warning

I know you sometimes leave notes for people who add spam to pages. I deleted one from Hunter's Point earlier. Just letting you know if there is some action you want to take. --Fannon 15:23, 6 March 2006 (PST)

brclear

What does the BR CLEAR="ALL" tag do? Just curious as trying to pickup all the useful formatting tags. Also, is there a category or tag we add to defunct crews? --Icex05 08:02, 7 March 2006 (PST)

It's for use with pictures that are aligned to the left or right and keeping it "confined" to one section by clearing the alignment formatting thingee. It's more useful than using a lot of extra lines or plain br's because it will work on all screen size resolutions. Let me make a little example here to show you how it'd be used and you'll be happily using it too when needed :) Defunct crews automatically get the correct category when you switch the infobox to the defunct one. Go to Style_guide#Everyday_Infoboxes and click on the crew defunct infobox to see the category coding used if you need to add a cat by hand. --Guppymomma 08:12, 7 March 2006 (PST)

Example without the br clear thing:

Header

Ok - The defunct infobox template has lost me. Trying to make British Seadogs listed as defunct, but I can't make the template load. I managed to add the category Defunct, but there is no where in the page code to delete the old category.--Icex05 08:34, 7 March 2006 (PST)
You just switch the template to the defunct one by making it "infobox crew(defunct)" instead of "infobox crew" --Guppymomma 08:56, 7 March 2006 (PST)
It was not working because I left a space between crew and (defunct) ;-) --Icex05 09:35, 7 March 2006 (PST)

Sig

You instructed me on my user talk page user_talk:pevarnj to sign messages as Pevarnj, not sulu. However on User_talk:Gmyoung 98 you just put code that he or she could sign as Mugford. I am starting to get confused. Will you please clearify this issue for me. --pevarnj (t/c) Look at this! 12:11, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Wrong name crew thingy

Good job! I really thought I had checked it earlier. Turns out it was the *other* Cobalt page with a really weirdly done name. And it matched. I'm going to have to start taking notes soon. --Fannon 16:47, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Adding User: Subpage

I want to make a subpage loaded with various template codes for personal reference when editing, rather than having to fish around for the ones I can't remember. How do I make a subpage on mky user page- or is it just a case of typing in the non-existant page and editing? --Sagacious 07:22, 10 March 2006 (PST)

Your second guess is correct. A "subpage" is just something the wiki software recognizes when you make an articlename with a /blah in it. --Guppymomma 09:28, 10 March 2006 (PST)

Opinion template icon

I've drafted a potential new icon for the Template:Opinion that was on your to do list.

Opinion.gif The topic of this article is subject to personal opinion, and does not represent any one absolute truth.
If you disagree, discuss your concerns on the the talk page before editing.

It's a bit basic, but what else represents an opinion in a 40x40 pixel square? --Sagacious 18:35, 11 March 2006 (PST)

Looks cute. Switch it to a transparent background and upload it as opinion.gif. If you need help with the transparency, let me know and I can do it. Or alternately you could put it into a white circle with a black outline. Either way would be better than what we've got now. Then pop it into the template and mark the unused ones for deletion. --Guppymomma 18:38, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Does that look ok, or should I try making it transparent without the circle? --Sagacious 18:49, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Try it with a square. A thick square. --Ponytailguy 18:51, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Or make the line weight of the circle thicker and put more whitespace between the I... and the edge of the circle. --Guppymomma 18:52, 11 March 2006 (PST)
One other minor note, are you switching back to RBG from indexed color with making the circle? The circle line looks very unaliased compared to the lettering's outlines. --Guppymomma 18:55, 11 March 2006 (PST)

It is all RGB 16bit at present. That is a quick view with a square. --Sagacious 18:57, 11 March 2006 (PST)

I was thinking something a bit more like this:
Nontransparent opinion.png The topic of this article is subject to personal opinion, and does not represent any one absolute truth.
If you disagree, discuss your concerns on the the talk page before editing.
--Ponytailguy 19:02, 11 March 2006 (PST)
I still think it needs the white background to make it stand out more as an alert. Heh, but that just happens to be my opinion of the opinion. ;) The whitespace around PTG's I... is more along the lines of what I was thinking though. --Guppymomma 19:07, 11 March 2006 (PST)
I temporarily removed the red text fill. How does mine look now? Would you prefer a circle? --Sagacious 19:15, 11 March 2006 (PST)
That spacing looks good. I kinda liked the red text, it was cute. The square seems nifty to me. --Guppymomma 19:21, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Red fill restored. Lookin good? --Sagacious 19:31, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Whups, I missed that the right side needs a little more white space. Can you move the .'s closer together to create enough space? --Guppymomma 20:08, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Enhanced colour and moved the .'s closer together, making it nice and centered. Is it ok now? ;-) --Sagacious 20:23, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Yeppers, I think it looks lovely. Go for changing the template to use it. --Guppymomma 20:31, 11 March 2006 (PST)

Phew! Got there in the end. After all that I think I'll leave the technical issues icon until tomorrow ;-) --Sagacious 20:34, 11 March 2006 (PST)

Ok so I got bored...

Technical.gif --Sagacious 20:56, 11 March 2006 (PST)

Cute. That template has no infoboxy thing yet. If you want to make one, just off the top of my head right now the main thing to put in there is a link to the technical issues forum telling them to go there if they have specific questions or something like that. --Guppymomma 21:23, 11 March 2006 (PST)
Created a message box - Template:Technical issue I think the background colour should be different. --Sagacious 03:20, 12 March 2006 (PST)
So is that ok then? That was somewhat simpler than the designing the last icon! --Sagacious 06:56, 12 March 2006 (PST)
Well the last one was more customized and your first learning experience. Yes, I think it looks lovely. Thanks. --Guppymomma 07:03, 12 March 2006 (PST)

Do you mind if I design an icon for the Template:Testing box? I've got a good idea for a simple logo. --Sagacious 07:30, 12 March 2006 (PST)
Feel free to do anything that's needed. Basically the idea is to "personalize" the icons for YPPedia instead of just using prepackaged random clipart. If you need guidance while I'm gone, Ponytailguy and Fiddler both have a good aesthetic sense. --Guppymomma 07:33, 12 March 2006 (PST)
Testing.gif The subject of this article is undergoing testing and may be changed before implementation.
Please see discussion on the talk page or check out the testing on the Ice Ocean.

What about that? --Sagacious 10:05, 12 March 2006 (PST)

Seems fine to me. Try switching it to light yellow to go for a cohesive look. If you're using clipart, just make sure there are no licensing issues. --Guppymomma 11:59, 12 March 2006 (PST)
I'll try making the yellow lighter. It's not a clipart image, it's a modified template. --Sagacious 12:15, 12 March 2006 (PST)
Ok - yellow is lighter. Anything else? --Sagacious 12:32, 12 March 2006 (PST)
Actually I meant the background of the message box hehe. Sorry 'bout that, I reverted your image to the older yellower one. Looks fine. Just switch the Antiquewhite to Lightyellow in the template when you switch images. --Guppymomma 12:43, 12 March 2006 (PST)

Reply to your message

I didn't "randomly" unalphabetize things; I was trying to sort them by type of clothing since that seemed more useful as it is the way things are sorted in-game. I didn't notice that they had been alphabetized before; frankly, I thought that list looked awfully random. I also tried to add genders to all the items, since for many new players a lot of the male and female clothing names appear similar, and they may get confused. (For example, "Shirt with sash" is awfully similar to "Frilly shirt with sash," and if you don't know that they are totally different things it is easy to get them mixed up.) Also, since I had FIRST added female rags to the 30-day list, as they decayed on a brand new alt at the same rate as the bandana she got her first log-in day, I hardly think it qualifies as "random" that I took them off the Unknown list. If you are serious about wanting everyone to help with the Wiki, don't scream at people and erase all their work the first time they try to contribute anything. --Lessa1326, 7:15 CST 3/12/06

Signatures

This is probably simpler than I think, but how does one edit their --~~~~ signature? I'm mainly referring to the slightly fancy ones that editors like Nickster have, with talk links etc. added at the end. --Sagacious 12:30, 19 April 2006 (PDT)

You can do different things to yours by looking at the info at User_talk:Callistan#Sig. --Guppymomma 13:03, 19 April 2006 (PDT)

I apologize

I'm sorry, I am just really fraustrated. I just really want to play and I got an extention for no reason. I am really sorry. I am just bored out of my mind. I won't bug anyone anymore.

Away

I assume you'd want to remove the away thingie from this page now? :) (I'd take it off myself, but you might have had some secret reason for keeping it on. :P) --Emufarmers 21:27, 28 May 2006 (PDT)

Heh. No, just had forgotten about this one. Thanks! --Guppymomma 13:14, 29 May 2006 (PDT)

Pirate-star

I've changed the name to barnstar, for the sake of simplicity. Is that a problem? --Emufarmers 20:37, 1 June 2006 (PDT)

Weird. barnstar & barnstar2 were bothing showing up as the star fruit to me. The change is fine. --Guppymomma 20:38, 1 June 2006 (PDT)
Same thing happened to me at first; clear your cache. :) --Emufarmers 20:39, 1 June 2006 (PDT)

Deletion

Yeah, I caught that after I'd done it. (Mykeroo is one of my alt accounts. I needed a screenshot of a link to a red username from the top of a page for the tutorial stuff I'm doing.) No worries, though, it was all made up information anyway. :) --Ponytailguy 17:54, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

Voting on Policy Proposals

Aenea_grace added support votes - but a search on the forums fails to find a user under that name. Sockpuppet, fake vote? --Sagacious (talk) 14:51, 6 June 2006 (PDT)

Real vote from a player that hasn't voted before. Eury said the lookup on the forum issue is probably because that player has not yet activated their forum account. --Guppymomma 17:09, 6 June 2006 (PDT)

Noise in the Signal

Sorry about that. --AtteSmythe 18:01, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

Iconic Pirates

For those long boring nights... Art:Iconic Pirates. --Fiddler 20:17, 13 June 2006 (PDT)

Thanks and a Question

Hoya, Guppy: Thanks for keeping me in line the last two days; don't want the hands getting ahead of the ol' noggin. :) Anyway, you set yourself as a bot for some bulk uploads; I still see all the uploads since then on recent changes, with bots hidden, even though you're still set as a bot. Is this a bug, or does bot status not affect display of uploads? --Emufarmers 13:59, 17 June 2006 (PDT)

I'm guessing it's like that on purpose because uploads shouldn't generally be done in secret as they're not minor. Who knows. --Guppymomma 14:00, 17 June 2006 (PDT)

Transparent images

Great work on replacing all those not-quite-transparent images. I found another couple, if you're feeling masochistic:

--Barrister 21:23, 18 June 2006 (PDT)

User:Gaille/Portrait clothing

What do you think? It's still missing the male diving helmet, female wig, boots with gaiters and curled slippers, and could use a pair of uncropped bloomers. I still don't know what to do with the body section since it seems kind of redundant. Gail 12:14, 24 June 2006 (PDT)

I think you've done a great job. Let me see if I can find links to some galleries with the missing thingees. I'll leave a note on your talk page if I find 'em. It seems redundant, but that's okay, people looking for clothing can go to this page, people looking for only pose info can go to the other. --Guppymomma 14:40, 24 June 2006 (PDT)

User:Chandini

I think we're looking at somekind of ban with this user. They just uploaded another potential copyrighted image, and then an image that just said 'Please delete image'. Taking the mick me thinks. --Sagacious (talk) 17:24, 28 June 2006 (PDT)

Re: OCL

I did talk to Apollo in-game about it. And also left two messages on the template talk page. Nothing happened, so I made a temporary fix. The page was protected when it wasn't correct, and being powerless to edit it myself, I can only leave Talk messages about it and they were ignored - what else am I to do? I don't like to nag over and over, so I did what I did to avoid that. I wasn't doing it for malicious purposes. Are there guidelines that say I should not have done what I did - I didn't find any. --Sagacious (talk) 19:59, 1 July 2006 (PDT)

Thank you for fixing that. Thought I had gotten all of the Yaten stuff away. --Kinocha 00:11, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

Image zapping

To save me the tedious task of tagging 24 images for deletion, could you delete all the images on the Villa page please :-) When yer done, I'll pop in my new table with the newly renamed images. Thank ye! --Sagacious (talk) 18:51, 17 July 2006 (PDT)

Not quite sure what ye meant. The reason I'm uploading the images again is so they work with the new template, and so they have a naming pattern. Ok to complete the estate images then, and we'll sort this issue of me renaming the rooms later on? --Sagacious (talk) 16:09, 18 July 2006 (PDT)
Ahh. Yes some of the images were already using the correct name format - probably should have mentioned it earlier. Lowres tags - zapped! --Sagacious (talk) 16:29, 18 July 2006 (PDT)

Image Names

Err, well. The room names had inconsistency. It seemed odd that similar rooms in left and right facing versions had different names. And some names like 'entry' were used, which to me didn't seem like a proper name for a room. Entrance Hall seemed more appropriate, and was being used on some housing pages, but not others. I felt part of sorting out the housing pages was to get name consistency going - so that's why I just altered names slightly. Plus 'Upstairs Northwest Bedroom' is rather long winded, for example. (Filename would have been Right-Townhouse-Upstairs_Northwest_Bedroom.png :-/) and a name like Right-Townhouse_First_Bedroom.png made more sense to me. I did try to leave a gap between forming the template for each house incase any names I'd changed were disputed. --Sagacious (talk) 06:57, 18 July 2006 (PDT)

Take a look at the Estate page. What is confusing me is the fact the left-facing estate's balcony is just called 'upstairs balcony', and yet the right-facing estate has it named 'Widow's Walk'. I don't know which one makes more sense, but I'm more inclined to use just 'Balcony' - since no other housing has had such fancy names. 'Office' and 'Study' also make not much sense to me - mainly because they aren't exactly piratey. --Sagacious (talk) 16:42, 18 July 2006 (PDT)
I know the names are weird. I didn't do any of the XML checking though, so I'm unsure which ones Yaten got out of those and which ones are just randomly selected names. In theory Yaten is back today or tomorrowish, so perhaps put it off for a day or so until he can mention what he knows. --Guppymomma 17:02, 18 July 2006 (PDT)

For the Lucathius portrait. So that's what I do if the portrait pic isn't showing? Just upload it to the wiki and use whatever code you're about to put in Lucathius's page? :) (Sorry really not good at this :p) --Lizzie 08:24, 19 July 2006 (PDT)

That's right, except no further code is required for the page; the link to the image is already there, so it automatically displays. :) (I was going to upload that image myself, but I was waiting for you to do it. :P) --Emufarmers 08:43, 19 July 2006 (PDT)

Outdated Crew Info

Sorry to bother, and sorry for my mistakes, don't want to make another one, I was going to work on the Category:Outdated Crew Information page and wasn't sure what how I should mark deleted crews. And yes, I did try fitting that into a link. It just wouldn't work.

Deletion question

The deletion policy needs tightening up and confirming then as I'm getting confusing messages from other admins:

"Just because a crew exists (or, in this case, existed) is no reason to have a page on the wiki. In this case it says "this crew used to exist, had a captain nobody remembers, and didn't accomplish anything particularly noteworthy". In light of defunct status, it's unlikely this page will ever be improved. Support deletion. (Seriously, it SAYS Unknown Captain and Unknown SOs. When you can't even tell us who ran the thing, you're not going to find the details to make a full article out of it.) --Ponytailguy 17:19, 27 October 2006 (PDT)" (Taken from here)

Thanks for all your help so far but is there any clarification with regards to this? --Whitemonkey 07:40, 30 October 2006 (PST)

  • bump* (sorry to be annoying, but it genuinely would be handy to have some information regarding this) --Whitemonkey 23:10, 31 October 2006 (PST)
This probably counts as a confusing message, but I'm personally all right with looking case-by-case right now. Pages that aren't going to be updated also require no maintenance, other than server space. Traditionally, I've supported leaving even scant information on the wiki, in case someone comes by to fill in details about their old crew/flag. The only pages whose deletion I tend to support are those with so little information that an editor could not possibly find anyone that knows anything about the subject to interview them for more information. With those, you're basically waiting for the original author to come back and write something new, which isn't very wiki. --AtteSmythe 23:26, 31 October 2006 (PST)

Greenie question

Right, this may sound really stupid, but how on earth do you get | (as in the dividing line) on a British keyboard? Currently I've been having to copy and paste, and I'm sure there must be an easier way! --Whitemonkey 12:23, 29 October 2006 (PST)

Hi Guppy; in regards to the Kovy situation - if i go onto a pirate page, how can i see what the pirates account is? i.e. if i click on Drake it doesnt say Minimoses. So, am i looking at it in the wrong place? cheers-me-dears --Minimoses 10:17, 14 October 2006 (PDT)

Offensive?

I somehow doubt Demeter would reward a doll "In celebration of Thanos finally REALLY leaving the game! (we hope)" . But I've given up trying to edit anything myself since I always screw up >.< / Daemonia

Actually, Demeter very much would do such a thing, as long as both the owner of the doll and Thanos knew it was a friendly joke. I'll check with her, but if you don't see it change, it's because everything's ok. --Eurydice 12:30, 11 September 2006 (PDT)

Infobox crew Suggestion

Ahoy again,

I was hoping you would look at my suggestion to add a field to the {{Infobox crew}}. Something I think would be helpful, that is coming from someone that has been updating many of the crew information pages. Template talk:Infobox crew. Assuming you and some of the other admins approve, how do I go about getting the template(s) updated? Might also be nice to have a field that displays when a value is entered for Merged into for crews that are known to have merged into another crew. I have discovered some of those as well and know of one other that I was personally involved with. --Kgarrett1969 12:17, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

I haven't heard back from you on this yet. I would really like to see about getting Crew Founded and possibly merged into implemented in the crew infobox templates. --Kgarrett1969 08:33, 20 September 2006 (PDT)
I'm not Guppy or Barrister, but I'd suggest setting up a sandbox of your own (Something like User:Kgarrett1969/Sandbox), then copying the template code over, and making it work. You can include that sandbox on another sandbox User:Kgarrett1969/Testing, or whatever, with the standard template syntax: {{User:Kgarrett1969/Sandbox|crewname=blah|blah=blah|yadda=yadda}} In order to get this through quickly, you'd do well to make the template backwards compatible in some way, so all the crews don't have to be touched at once. --AtteSmythe 09:53, 20 September 2006 (PDT)
Go with Atte's suggestion here. I've just been very busy rl at work. --Guppymomma 21:12, 20 September 2006 (PDT)

When and When Not to Use Crewstub

Ok I'm at a loss as to what qualifies as where this template should be used. I've been working on updating Out of Date crew pages and I've seen some pretty inconsistent usage and it one case I took one out and had someone point out that it should have been left in. When should it be used and when should it not be used? I've been told that having just a Public Statement and crew infobox is not enough to remove the stub. Which I can handle but I have seen some pages with a very short Public Statement, say two lines in History and a link to a crew forum link without the stub. How is this better than a very informative Public Statement and deserves no stub? If a Statement is very informative about the crew can that be grounds for removing the stub? Help I'm just looking for a good solid rule of thumb to use when updating crew information pages.--Kgarrett1969 07:58, 28 September 2006 (PDT)

It depends on the crew. If it's a crew that's been around a long time and been part of a highly active or island owning flag, then surely they must have some history. Crews that have 3 people and haven't been around for a long time and are part of a small/unactive flag are not likely to have additional history. Crews that fall into that last category and have the couple folks there as dormant for several months, well, they're not likely to have additional history or have someone who knows anything to put in there. There's no hard & fast rule. If you think that a crew has more of a story to tell, feel free to put in the crewstub & go the AtteSmythe route of posing some questions on the talk page to help along in writing an informative article. --Guppymomma 08:25, 28 September 2006 (PDT)
Thanks. :) That is very helpful in my continued editing of Crew pages. I hope no one minds that I have adopted them as my little corner of the wiki. I have been more or less working to update and make them standard.--Kgarrett1969 09:43, 28 September 2006 (PDT)
Absolutely not! Editors taking a personal interest in specific areas of the wiki is what keeps the concept working. We have folks monitoring the cleanup category, pirate articles, etc., and it's very appreciated! --AtteSmythe 09:52, 29 September 2006 (PDT)

(Changed title cause the last one made a imprsseion I did not want to make)

Excuse me but why cant i take credit for a page that I made? Besides it's just ONE little tiny line "Made by Float That's what it is. I dont see how your problem against should call you to "vadalize" my page by deleting a part I consider nessary off of it. I want you to stop and let me take credit for my creation. And the reason I put it there is cause not many people actually look up the creator so If I put it there they will notice! On hunter I have recieved several thanks for making pages to MY pirate because I put that there. >=[ (There better edit)

--Cammymylove 20:24, 10 October 2006 (PDT)

Ahoy! Edits to articles are not signed because this is an encyclopedia. Anything you write here becomes public domain and is open to be edited to other people. Generally, it's a bad idea to consider any articles as "yours" - they will be edited by other people at some point. If you start from the beginning knowing that you're offering information up to the public, it helps to avoid hurt feelings later if your edits are ever reverted or changed by other people. This is not a glamorous hobby. ;) It's true that most readers will never know who actually created the article - that's the way wikis work. As you noted, the wiki software automatically tracks edits to pages, so adding a note to the main article is redundant. Hope that helps clear it up, and welcome to the wiki. :) --Zava 03:49, 11 October 2006 (PDT)

Uploading portraits

I probably should have asked you this before, but never got round to it.

What's the proper way to upload a portrait? I tried using a hyperlink as a source of a portrait, but it always refused, telling me that the file appears to be empty and to try again. I then resorted to saving on my hard drive and uploading from there. Is that actually how to go about it, or am I doing something really stupid like missing off an implicit file extension for the source image? --Piplicus 09:28, 1 November 2006 (PST)

Nope, that's how we do it. Download, then upload. Inefficient for sure, but that's the mediawiki way it seems. --Guppymomma 09:47, 1 November 2006 (PST)

Thank Ye and Question in Regards to Comment

Thanks for the rather informative comment to my talk page; I shall do my best to spread the information given to me by you to those others in my crew (who seem to have been working quite a bit since I took a nap this morning after my bout of insomnia (which is why I was working on these things so much in the first place)), but if you might, could you clarify the pages that you felt my grammar clean-up and such were premature on? If these pages are included in the list of Impossibles, Paperweight, Eggplant, Jonzo, or Moonlit (crew), these are all pages of persons that I was talking with at or around the time. If it was Jebus, I was the last edit since August, and if it was Doubloon, parts of the article were written as imperative statements directly referencing the reader. I do recognize that I made a few mistakes in my sleepless frenzy, but I have done what I can to identify and correct my errors. Hopefully I have done so adequately for now. At any rate, if you could elaborate on which articles you felt my actions were premature on, it would be greatly appreciated. YPPedia seems far more sane than Wikipedia, which is a nice change. --Captain N

Housing pages for the german YPPedia

Munin, the OM responsible for the german YPPedia at gamigo, gave me a backup of the YPPedia. The archive contains several XML files (as far as I could see, they contain all the articles with revision history, but no images. I could send the archive to you for import. I'm not familiar with import options of the wiki, so I don't know if you're able to select which articles shall be imported. For example there are all (indigo) pirate, crew and flag pages, which are quite useless here ;) And there could be template conflicts, because some templates are already re-created. Mission Statements, etc.

I'm having trouble making editing decisions because some things are permissable that appear not to be, and I can't find documentation stating that these things should be allowed. Mission Statements are a recent example of this. It might be helpful to add a Mission Statement section to the sample flag and crew pages, so both players and editors know its alright for those to be included. I hate being a hard-booty but I want to contribute to the community the way I'm supposed to, so I try to edit things as documentation seems to insist the articles should appear. It's difficult to do that when documentation only covers some things. (This is in no way a complaint or a whine! I just don't know where to find all the info I need.) --Lilly 11:30, 5 January 2007 (PST)

On being a good editor

I always feel like I'm stepping on toes when I question policy but, then again, I feel like I'm stepping on toes just by editing - it's not YPPedia's fault but a character flaw. I'll try to be more involved in the community in future. --Lilly 11:49, 5 January 2007 (PST)

PDF Map of Opal

I think a map of Opal is heavily needed. Unfortunately I couldn't open your Hunter map (acrobat complains about an unrecognized file format). Concerning the names of the islands, I don't think I'm of good help. I don't know all islands on Opal. Maybe you should contact Endymion about that. For a start you can use the names from here: http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/de/Opal_Ozean

Generally you can say that most islands kept their name (just put Insel in place of island) like Quetzal-Insel or Chachapoya-Insel. The islands with other names are trnslated sometimes: Hubbles Eye became Hubbles Auge, Ix Chel stayed the way it was ^^. --MrTeatime 16:46, 29 January 2007 (PST)

Deletion tags

Thanks, I really didn't want to go to that much trouble but I was trying to provide a solid reason for why I was requesting the deletes. Hold over from my real job I expect where you have to have 5 pages of documentation for a one line coding change. I'll refrain from using the talk pages in the future when requesting these types of deletes. Is there any benefit to making a comment on the canidates for speedy deletion talk page?

Also as long as I have your attention how best should a change like Dragon Masters be handled? (Crew is created under a name and is then renamed a page for both the old name and new name is created then a flag is created under the same name as the original crew name but incorrectly titled in the wiki. Since I'm not an admin and was trying to not create extra work I did the following:

  1. Combined the Crew pages into one under the crew's current name
  2. Relinked all links to the original crew page to the new crew page
  3. Left the links refering to the flag as is, in anticipation of the flag page being moved to the correct location
  4. Request a delete of the original name of the crew page
  5. Anticipate moving the Incorectly titled Flag page to the page vacated by the deleted crew page.
  6. Verify that everything is linked correctly.

Is this a good approach? Another thought I had was to move the flag page to Dragon Masters (flag) but that would have generated an extra move and delete to get everything in the correct location. --Kgarrett1969 12:22, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

Featured Article Contest Draft

The recent changes probably wizz by to fast to catch it so I'll drop you a line. Here is a draft of my idea for the featured article contest. Finer details are still coming to me but that seems to be a good way to go about getting lots of involvement and possible encouraging new editors to try it out. User:Muffynz/Featured_article_contest_draft --Muffynz 18:18, 7 June 2007 (PDT)

Hugely busy work week. I will look at it next week on Monday. With a quick skim, off-hand I would suggest that you get them to make it a \blah under their userpage instead of a normal article. I'll ask Eury if she can take a look as well if you haven't sent her a PM. --Guppymomma 19:19, 7 June 2007 (PDT)
Ooh! Yeah, I'm with Guppy--please have them stick it in a \blah instead of in a regular article. And you might want to think about specifying which kind of "cold hard cash," lest people think you'll be paying in real life money and freak out when you don't. Just trust me on this one.  :) --Eurydice 19:26, 7 June 2007 (PDT)
Good, good, thank you you two. That is the kind of feedback I was wanting. I'll edit my draft sometime tomorrow with some of those changes and a few others I've been pondering in my spare time. If either of you concocts anything else please drop me a line. Most of my event posts I try to make humorous just cause it draws people in. Was I too over the top on this one? Did it obscure the point of the event and the rules and stuff? Was the explanation clear for your average Joe pirate? --Muffynz 20:32, 7 June 2007 (PDT)
Since this seems to be where this discussion is, I'll add in my two cents. First, in the sentence about wikis, Wikipedia is a specific wiki - the correct term is simply wiki. And second, to Eury's comment, I'd just change the relevant sentence to It's easy, it's fun, and you might just win a little bit of PoE for it. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 21:33, 7 June 2007 (PDT)

Trinket templates

Ok I see that Azarbads trinkets are not yet set up to use My Trinket. I have a Red jeweled dagger and would love to help contribut to setting up the trinkets. I also know an owner of a Violet one and a Blue one to get it going. What needs to be done to set it up? Where do the images go? In what format do they need to be? Give me some guidance and I'll see about helping out with them and other trinkets not yet on the wiki. --Kgarrett1969 11:17, 9 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Let me just confirm this to make sure I understand. I make a copy of the current colors file in png format, pop it into an editor say PaintBrush. Then I cut paste a screenie of the colors I have access to and then reupload the file back to the wiki. Does this all sound correct? Assuming I've gotten it right, I'll get the red version uploaded as soon as I get home from work and violet and blue as soon as I catch the two pirates that were with me when we beat Azarbad. I'll keep a look out for other missing trinket colors as well. --Kgarrett1969 04:07, 11 June 2007 (PDT)
  • Ok, one other question. I have the new version loaded. The Orange, Blue, and Violet versions of the dager are part of the image. Assumeing default green is the correct version of green that only leaves Red and Aqua. My question is that can the Mytrinket template be set up for the dagger now or is it wiki policy to wait until it is fully colorized? Also I would like the opportunity to set up the template so that I know how to do it in the future. Thanks for your help. --Kgarrett1969 17:29, 11 June 2007 (PDT)

So does that mean all the BK trinkets can come in Yellow or just Azarbad? What should I be on the lookout for when I'm king hunting? --Kgarrett1969 06:11, 8 July 2007 (PDT)

Re: Redirects

Ahoy there! While Wb is sufficient for the use case of using the search box to navigate, I created the other redirects (such as WB, WF, KB, etc...) primarily for those of us (self-included) who have acquired certain habits surrounding the use of MediaWiki installations, namely typing the article URL in the address bar to navigate. Under this use-case, common alternative spellings, punctuations, and capitalizations should in fact have appropriate redirects. –Alaynecarin 01:51, 23 July 2007 (PDT)

Another Crew Paged Tangled Up with mutiple entries.

Ahoy! I just wanted to let you know about another pair of crew pages I came across that need to be consolidated and fixed. This time the culperates are Silverlight and Storm Controller. Both of these articles refer to the same crew under different names. I consolidate everything under Storm Controller then moved Storm Controller to Silverlight (Sage). I've issued deletes for Silverlight and the redirect under Storm Controller. Once Silverlight has been deleted Silverlight (Sage) can be moved to Silverlight. Your head hurting yet? I did it this way to preserved all the edit history that exists under Storm Controller now Silverlight (Sage). Not sure if should be moved from Silverlight (Sage) to Silverlight once all the deletes are issued so you can do it or leave a message for me and I'll move it. Today was one of those days it would have been nice to have Admin priveledges just so I wouldn't have to give you a headache with my screwy change. Thanks. --Kgarrett1969 05:29, 2 August 2007 (PDT)

Need to lock BK pages so only admins can use them

I noticed today that Aphrodite has updated the BK templates (example: Template:BK_sage). I then realized that they were available for anyone to edit. Those pages are read by the client when it loads, so someone could very easily vandalize them and affect the client. I just wanted to call this to your attention. Thanks! ^_^ Sashamorning 17:00, 9 August 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for noticing. Cedarwings took care of it for us :) --Guppymomma 18:01, 9 August 2007 (PDT)

Article for Greenie Support Group

Is an article such as Greenie Support Group appropriate. My gut reaction is no and it should be tagged for deletion but I thought I would seek you feedback on it for direction and so that if I come across similar articles in the future I'll know how they should be handled. --Kgarrett1969 11:33, 16 August 2007 (PDT)

It's marginal. I'll strike out various parts of it due to NPOV & such. We've got other "organization" articles though, so unless there's a good reason to delete it, it's somewhat okay. --Guppymomma 20:11, 16 August 2007 (PDT)
Ok sounds good. Thanks for the guidance. --Kgarrett1969 05:21, 17 August 2007 (PDT)

Pin Trinkets and the New Three Dimensional Color Scheme

Ahoy! On the eve of my being voted in as administrator I think I'm ready to tackle one of the huge looming trinket template projects, that of the Pin Trinket. I might as well justify your faith in me in a big way as my first admin project. :-D

I looked around but didn't find any official discussion on it so I thought I would drop you a note and get some feedback from you, since I have unofficially adopted you as my Wiki Mentor. Conceptually these trinkets have a three dimensional color chart. The question I'm asking myself is what is the best way to handle them. Do we go with a true 3 dimensional color chart table or do we go with seperate charts for Gold, Silver and Bronze. I actually can see different variations of the later that might be used. Before I go off Rambo style I thought I would get your perspective on which one you would recommend pursueing. Either way seems to be a bit sticky but I'm ready and willing to dive in see what I can pull together assuming you are not aware of anyone else attempting to tackle this project. --Kgarrett1969 05:56, 28 August 2007 (PDT)

Ok I discovered why I didn't find them. Those images were not tagged with {{trinket image}}. I was under the impression that all such images of trinkets were suppose to be. Is that not correct? Since the tag includes a copyright disclaimer of sorts I am going to proceed and start tagging those images. --Kgarrett1969 07:00, 29 August 2007 (PDT)
That's right. It was probably just an oversight when I uploaded those images. --Guppymomma 15:32, 29 August 2007 (PDT)

RE: Featured Article Voting Stuffs

Ah, thank you. So many links I neglected to remember that one was there and needed changing. I will keep that and the idea of listing the entries straight on the talk page in mind for next month. Thanks for your help as always! -- Muffynz(t/c) 19:46, 30 August 2007 (PDT)

Frequency

Alrighty, thanks for telling me :D I had no idea, and the edits kinda stood out. But, you learn from your mistakes. It won't hurt to learn to use the Preview button though. --CaptainDP 08:22, 18 September 2007 (PDT)

Deletion revertion

My bad, I just had klaxons go off when I saw a user deleting their own talk page, and what they'd deleted.--Vurogj 07:45, 16 October 2007 (PDT)

Cleanup tags & Swobby

Hi, My sincere apologies if this is an inappropriate place to put this comment. But I noticed your comment on the User Talk page of Matt121493. This user did this to my page earlier on, right when I was in the process of editing my pirate page (which was brand new). As I am new user, I was conversing with my crew at the same time, asking them about things such as infoboxes, and Matt just jumped straight in with his editing and cleanup tags, which was kinda intimidating. When I finished correcting my page I deleted the cleanup tag, and he sent me a user talk telling me I shouldn't!! I hope this is ok, but we have respectfully asked him to leave editing fixes to the admin. -- Kellifer1980 16:20, 23 October 2007 (PDT)

NOT random

i didn't "randomly" mark pages for deletion. they were pages that had pretty much no relevant information on them. i marked them because of that. a page with no info should be deleted. EllieNeo (talk • contribs)
