Welcome to my talk page. Archives: 1, 2, 3, 4

Your message

Took me a few reads to understand what you were saying there, and I greatly apologize for the massive amount of spam I put forth. Completely unintentional, and as such, I'll be more careful in the future. Can ye suggest a place where I might notify folks of the existence of the Jobbing Guide should they wish to use it/refer to it?

Thank ye for yer comments, Seamus McLir

Fame

In response to your message, I left a comment on the "editing talk" for the fame page. I'm pasting that comment below for your convenience:

I believe that jobbers do contribute to fame. I made the change after I had posted a thread and consulted other pirates about their opinions. Pirates who responded to my thread agreed with me. http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=1157834#1157834

Threat of blocking me from editing is unwarranted. I did not provide information that I knew to be false. There is no definitive answer out there as Cleaver did not address the precise issue at hand. Moreover, I did consult the player base before I made that change. At best, your speculation is just as good as mine.

vandalism

Can you stop giving out unwarranted threats to people? You accused blackcat69 of vandalism. Vandalism is defined as: "The user erases large sections of existing content for no valid reason, or adds offensive text to existing entries." I'd like to highlight that only deleting LARGE SECTIONS of text for no valid reason constitutes vandalism.

What Blackcat69 did was changing a few words in the section. S/he did NOT delete large sections of text. While I agree that blackcat69's editing was incorrect, s/he did not engage in vandalism. S/he also did not add any offensive text to the entry.

The term vandalism implies an intentional act. I don't see any evidence to support an inference that blackcat69's editing was intentionally destructive. I also don't understand why you cannot give him/her the benefit of a doubt and think that s/he committed a careless mistake.

What you are consistently doing, i.e. giving out empty and completely unfounded threats, is not helping the community at all. Before you act like a forum police, get your rules straight and understand what they mean, and then apply them judicially. People who don't know any better will be scared off by you. Things that you believe in may very well be correct. And upon further observation, I am beginning to agree with your position on the jobber/fame issue. But that doesn't mean that those who hold different beliefs are vandalizing or intentionally providing false information.

With all due respect, the posts that you left in my thread concerning fame don't make a whole lot of sense. So, do me a favor: before you go out and accuse people of vandalism or threaten people of a wiki-ban, take a deep breath and think through things twice.

Thanks

Sorry!

So sorry, I hadn't realized that you had to go through it! I had not thought of the preview button, thanks for the notice, and yes I have been trying to get it done, and going back and forth trying to figure this out. My captain has wanted a yppedia page and has no idea how to do it...so *sigh* SOs have to do all the work.

User talk message

Ahoy! Just wanted to let you know that the message you left about the frequency to the page Shortcake was actually left on the wrong page. If you checked the page history you would have seen the edits were done by the user Eztammy not Shortcake. Only thing I can guess is the user page was previously moved to the wrong name and you got redirected. I've since moved the user page to the correct location so the message will still make it to it's correct audience. -- Cedarwings (t/c) 20:45, 9 October 2007 (PDT)

Ah, thanks. I noticed it at the time, but just figured the user had switched usernames or something (rather like what your sig did to me for the first while :)). -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 18:12, 10 October 2007 (PDT)
