Battle Axe

Hey faulkston i was wondering if you can look into the talk page for the battle axe http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/Talk:Battle_Axe No point in me posting the question twice :) --randompanzy 09:29, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Duplicate flag names

Hey! I'm only posting this here because I'm guessing you'll look at this page more than anyone's likely to look at the relevant talk page, but that said... What is the policy on handling common flag names on different oceans? I just noticed that the entry for the Midnight Epic has been completely replaced with the Viridian one, and I can't believe that would be the supported solution, especially when the Midnight one was at least somewhat notable, and a lot of the incoming links are refering to it, rather than Viridian's. But what should be done instead? Should both flags be disambiguated, or just the later one, or? -Birchle 01:09, 16 June 2008 (PDT)

There is no clear consensus on the 2 articles case as some editors prefer not to create a disambiguation page with only 2 entries and instead have one article have the non-disambiguated name with a link to the other article. I personally don't think it really matters in the long run.
The Viridian Epic is a crew rather than a flag like the Midnight one, so alternative disambiguations could have been Epic (crew) and Epic (flag) as well as other variants. In this specific case, someone did overwrite the existing article about the Midnight flag with one about the Viridian crew but it was only today that the situation was rectified. And no, overwriting an existing article is generally not done unless for example the article is a redirect. -- Faulkston 18:53, 16 June 2008 (PDT)

Changed to fan art

you keep changing my entry to the contest to fan art and i don't know why. You havn't given any explanation to why it is not a suitable background. I have followed all the rules i checked and rechecked the instructions for uploading. I drew the picture myself using samples from the game so that it looks like it game right out of the game like the instuctions say. I used two different programs to design it and ensured that it meets size and pixle requirements. the shadding and colouration is unified throughout the picture and I overlayed the pirate cutouts to ensure it would look ok. I dont understand what I have done wrong can you please explain. Have i put in too much detail? arthousinyu

At least once an inappropriate contest tag was used (those backgrounds were not of shoppes), nevertheless you posted the images in the shoppe portrait background thread on the forums. I tried using the old standard portrait background tag but found out that indicates an image was for a portrait contest which is now over. Both the Spring 08 and Shoppe portrait background contests appear to be over - it's not clear whether the Spring 08 background contest deadline was ever extended. Until the next portrait contest tag is created, the fanart tag will probably have to be used. I'll keep an eye out for the right tag. -- Faulkston 19:06, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
Both Image:Art-Arthousinyu-Trutle_Gardens.png and Image:Art-Arthousinyu-Skelli_Island.png appear to be too low resolution to be eligible to be portrait background contest entries. Additionally the former image uses scaled cut and paste graphics elements from the game. The particular guideline "Make it look like it came right out of the game" more likely means make your portrait match the style of the existing ones, rather than copy and/or modify game graphics. -- Faulkston 19:20, 18 June 2008 (PDT)

Disambiguation Templates

Ahoy! I notice you tend to do a lot of disambiguating. Firstly, how do you know when a link needs disambiguation? Do you click on them all and disambig all the ones that go to the wrong place, or is there a faster way? Secondly, what do you think of my suggestion here? I'm not sure anyone's gonna see it, as it kinda got buried in the Recent Changes page by my later edits. --Belthazar451 20:33, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

See Special:Disambiguations for a list of articles which link to disambiguation pages. Generally links to disambiguation pages on user pages aren't to be changed, nor is there much point to changing those on talk pages. There are cases where it is valid to link to disambiguation pages, including a "you may also be looking for" note at the start of an article and islands created by designers which exist on more than one ocean e.g. Cobalt and Viridian Ocean islands.
I will have to see if the original intention for that template to link to a crew article is now possible to realize with the current Mediawiki version. -- Faulkston 21:03, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Crew Page: Titans Reborn

Thanks for restoring it! I was just about to because we became active again.. Now I dont have to do all the hard work again!

Thanks

Royalty/Titled lists

I noticed you removing plain bullit style listings of Royalty/Titled from flag pages but I never seen a vote on this issue.-- Haywoodx(t/c) 23:32, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Consensus is towards not duplicating a mass of information that is linked to by the infobox. -- Faulkston 00:52, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Northern Lights

I wish you hadn't gone through and made those disambig pages already. The page didn't need to be moved to the defunct title, and Haywood and I were having a conversation about it on his talk page. --Fannon 04:24, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Oops. Rolled back my changes. -- Faulkston 04:36, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
It was my booch and should have double checked my information before moving the page out of the way for a flag I thought, but doesnt really, exist.-- Haywoodx(t/c) 04:41, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Current events

When I click on "Current events" in the nav-bar I am taken here instead of there. -- Haywoodx(t/c) 05:31, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Raised the issue here. -- Faulkston 05:56, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Yarrby Help

I have 2 pirates named Yarrbybeard both on diff oceans but i only see one when i go to my yarrby page. Could you help me?

-Skunkbeard9

I see two oceans listed for Yarrbybeard on the Yarrby page. -- Cedarwings (talk) 22:40, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Parrot images

Sorry for creating all that extra work for you with all my booching. --Belthazar451 11:53, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem at all. Thanks for doing all the uploading of the images. -- Faulkston 17:39, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry

O.o sorry for making all those images, i forgot how to edit a new portrait in.

can you show me :P?

The new image is uploaded successfully. Refresh your web browser window to see it. -- Faulkston 22:49, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Labby Moors page

Im thinking the Labby Moors page (that you deleted) should be recreated, but instead of a page, as a redirection(Like Sf is for Swordfighting

---Yarrby 9/5/08 6:56 PM EST

SF or sf for swordfighting is reasonably common, but who uses "Labby Moors"? --Belthazar451 02:17, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Labby Moors is not a common enough nickname for Labyrinth Moors to justify creating a redirection. -- Faulkston 03:18, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
On Cobalt, TONS of ppl use Labby Moors. I hear it more than Labyrinth Moors
---Yarrby 9/10/08 7:15 PM EST
It's not encyclopedic. -- Faulkston 01:12, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Fall portrait contest image tag

for some reason my entries for the fall portrait contest are not showing up in the contest entries page skelli island by arthousinyu and after atlantis by alexia876 niether of them are showing up can you check and see why please thanks.

The reason is that they're not tagged properly because it wasn't clear which contest they were entries for. The tags have been switched accordingly. -- Faulkston 01:00, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Standard Ship Name policy

Hi, on the page Lexington you deleted the list of ships i had and said, "(removed list of standard named ships as per policy)". What's this policy? Thanks!. --Lexington

You can see that policy about pirate articles as well as others here. -- Faulkston 22:12, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
wow talk about a speedy reply! Thanks! --Lexington

Thank you

Just wanted to say thank you for patching up Danzku's pirate page- I was experiencing a mental block (obviously) when I made that.

Thanks again.

Strznc 13:56, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. -- Faulkston 00:51, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

My trinket template: Exotic Coffee

Ahoy there Faulkston! I am wondering if you could fix it... there is something wrong with how it shows up as you can see on my pirate page, Addihockey. It looks as if the borders a bit funny, is it just my computer or??? --Addison 03:45, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

A color needs to be provided when using that trinket template. I go with red as the default: it's up to whoever knows the actual color to edit in the correct value. -- Faulkston 03:47, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Adding category (Help)

How do you put a pirate page to a category? I would like to add my pedia page, Capberry as Hunter ocean pirate. Could you do it for me?

Thanks in advance.

--Yaypuzzlez 05:03, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

The recommended way is to use the template {{oceans|#=1|Hunter}}. If your pirate say resides on Sage also, then {{oceans|#=2|Hunter|Sage}} would place the pirate article into both Hunter and Sage Ocean pirates categories. The template extends in a fairly obvious manner to even more oceans a pirate could dwell on. -- Faulkston 06:03, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Crew/Flag portrait

I just made 2 pages about a crew/flag and they have the same portrait. Image:Flags-Brigand King Empire.jpg and Image:Crews-Ancient Rulers of Sage.jpg I cant link you to it because it just shows the portrait.... sorry! Just wondering if anything should happen to them. The crew/flag page are Brigand King Empire and Ancient Rulers of Sage. Good luck! --Addison 23:34, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't worry about the fact that it's a duplicate image. It's probably more difficult in the long run to make both articles reuse the same image file e.g. updating the flag portrait but forgetting to undo the reuse would result in the crew portrait being changed also. -- Faulkston 23:50, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

YPPedia Map Editor Image

I think Image:YPPedia Map Editor.png needs to be reverted to the old version. The original was an image illustrating the program in operation, while the new one appears to be a (very) incorrectly uploaded entry for the DYOOL contest. --Belthazar451 03:29, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

OK, reverted. My browser was caching images and didn't show the new one, so it appeared that an updated image of the YPPedia map editor interface had been uploaded. -- Faulkston 03:53, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Generalised disambiguation template

I've made a new template for generalised disambiguation of links - it's in the form of {{Viridian}} (Usage) et al, but allows the editor to specify a specific disambiguation term rather than simply just an ocean name. Essentially, I've created it because it's much easier to write (for example) {{dl|Cold Steel|flag}} than [[Cold Steel (flag)|Cold Steel]]. Is it useful/intuitive enough to use for real? --Belthazar451 00:28, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

See that proposed template's talk page for my comments. -- Faulkston 02:59, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Posted a reply. =) --Belthazar451 03:54, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

User:Rtyb (Edit frequency)

I see that he has made 19 more edits after your warning... I have given him another warning and he has listened to it by only doing 2 edits after it =-D. In total he has done 36 edits on the page... not sure if any more actions should be made but... consider it a job well done by reducing his edits! Cheers! --Addison 04:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Nothing more needs to be done if the rate of edits has already been reduced. -- Faulkston 04:54, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Seeking Advice

Ahoy! I am seeking advice with the Santas page. It's fairly small, but I've put "Santas is an independent pirate on the Sage Ocean." and the original creator of the page didn't like it. I reverted the edit, but the creator restored it and left me a message on my talk page and I responded on his talk page. I also consider the text in the page pretty poor. Could you help me? --Addihockey (talk/contribs) 19:30, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

This looks like an article about an event pirate. The article at the moment looks OK. -- Faulkston 19:46, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

A Few Good Men

I'm a bit puzzled, maybe I did something wrong, but I thought I've edited the original page before it was deleted/moved. Did I do something wrong, did I never submit the edit or has my edit been nirvanad? -- Kamuflaro 19:14, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

The duplicate article with the capitalization not matching what's in-game has been deleted. -- Faulkston 19:16, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I know, but I was kinda asking if it was possible for a single edit to be lost in the process. It's not been a big edit or something, I am just wondering if I did something wrong, like marking it Third person :) If everything is alright I'll go and edit it again. -- Kamuflaro 19:25, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
From the logs for the article, it doesn't look like your edit was submitted. -- Faulkston 19:30, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Probably just forgot to submit then *head+desk* thanks :) -- Kamuflaro 19:31, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

I'd like to point you here --Addihockey (talk/contribs) 03:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

That was done and undone before Faulkston left his first warning today. --Guppymomma 04:54, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks man!

Yous eem to ahve done my Pirate page, crew page and Flag page for me, well tidying i tup! Thanks a lot !!

What to do?

As editors are supposed to be welcome on the YPPedia I find the content of the pirate page of Allynb disturbing. It has been there for years and is being worked on atm and I fear that it would end up with an edit war if I went and removed the inappropriate content. How is this going to be resolved or should we leave it as it is? -- Kamuflaro 19:19, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Since I just changed the page, here is how I see it. If it is not a highly visible page, there is no need to change it immediately. Waiting the 15 minutes mentioned in the Editors' Code of Conduct and doing the edit matter-of-factly usually avoids an edit war in my experience. Any comments about page ownership should of course not be present, in this case it was probably just not noticed until now. --Alfwyn 20:07, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

User:Cmdrzoom

I feel that this user has taken this beyond the scope of editors. I simply added an NPOV tag to the user's article and put it up for discussion, this since has turned into a flaming episode by the user. Talk: Catalina and User talk: Cmdrzoom show the examples of this. I am not sure which course of action should be taken in this matter. --Matt121493 03:54, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

New template proposal

Any thoughts? I'm getting a little impatient waiting for people to notice, so I'm out fishing for comments, and you seem to be online. =) --Belthazar451 07:34, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Checking my work.

Ahoy faulkston long time no see right? Anyway i need you to make sure everything is in order. Legion Of Doom (viridian) changed their name to Kingdom Of Illyria and i need you to make sure everything is still the same when the move occured. Hope to hear from you soon

~fair winds,Empire of viridian~

The in-game capitalisation is "Kingdom of Illyria" (i.e. a lower-case o). We like to have names the same way on the YPPedia. --Belthazar451 04:06, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

That is my bad. i can fix it if you want.~Fair winds, Empire of viridian~

Nomanation

Faulkston i have posted a admin nomanation [here] http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/YPPedia:Requests_for_adminship/V1nc3 i would like to know if everything is in order. If there are any problems feel free to send me a message and if im noto n change yourself would appreciate it. User:V1nc3

removed list of standard named ships as per policy

Where might I be directed to said policy? Thanks. Lowstandrd 23:11, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

YPPedia:Policies and guidelines#Individual Pirate Articles - there's a link in the left-hand sidebar. =) --Belthazar451 23:20, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Comments can once again be left on user talk pages? That's great! -- Faulkston 01:26, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
It's a hit and miss thing for me. Not really deterministic when I get hit by the endless loading thing. But after my experience with the move yesterday I think retrying after a few hours in the case of failure might work. --Alfwyn 14:41, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
It's more of a miss and hit thing in my case. =) Some talk pages I've never been able to post to no matter how long I wait, but I've never seemed to have a problem with the talk pages of other admins, and some users. --Belthazar451 21:14, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps it is newer users that the database is unhappy with leaving comments on their talk pages. -- Faulkston 02:04, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

New talk page?

You created a new talk page? Are you a superuser or something... I need to check my settings. -- Cedarwings (talk) 02:51, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

You mean this one? I believe the database is behaving again for the meantime. Also I need to archive my current talk page as it is getting a bit long. -- Faulkston 03:06, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
