Quite old comments

Hey! Thank you, Faulkston, for collecting so many links! AySz88^-^ 18:42, 26 August 2005 (PDT)

I just realized I don't have any space left for actual talk! Faulkston 21:22, 26 August 2005 (PDT)
You can use a subpage(s) if you want. (see my User Talk page for an example) AySz88^-^ 12:31, 27 August 2005 (PDT)
Nice, I'll be doing that. Faulkston 17:39, 27 August 2005 (PDT)

It may be that the easier way for you to do this is to actually split it up as separate pages for each topic and use wiki's Category system as [[Category:Commonly Discussed Ideas]]. That would remove the need to continually redo your splits. Trying to ponder a way to name them appropriately though without it conflicting with normal pages etc. Maybe putting (Idea Links) at the end of the article title. Perhaps someone else has a good idea? --Guppymomma 13:22, 6 September 2005 (PDT)

I agree. This project has outgrown my talk pages - an overhaul in organization seems like a great next step. Faulkston 15:27, 6 September 2005 (PDT)
Subcategories are going to help a lot! Faulkston 16:19, 6 September 2005 (PDT)
Instead of using the content of a category page such as Category:Commonly Discussed Ideas:Building to hold actual content, you should put that stuff in a Building (Idea Links) page that is in the Category:Commonly Discussed Ideas:Building. The reason why I suggest this is that currently all the Idea Links pages are included in the YPPedia search without having to check extra boxes. Category pages are not automatically included. Your current method also makes the sub category page confusing. So to sum it up, pop /plank on an article something like Building (Idea Links) and rename the Chat channels see also part as See Also. Uh feel free to ask me what the heck I'm talking about :) One last note is that you can make the sorting stuff use something different than the article title. This will come in useful especially for the subcategories. So on Category:Commonly Discussed Ideas:Building, you should use [[Category:Commonly Discussed Ideas|Building]] to get it to pop that subcategory under B instead of C. --Guppymomma 18:17, 6 September 2005 (PDT)
How many times in a day do people tell you how wonderful you are? Faulkston 18:51, 6 September 2005 (PDT)
:) heee thanks, but I'm just sitting around commenting from the peanut gallery, you're doing the real heavy lifting. Very nice pages! --Guppymomma 14:44, 7 September 2005 (PDT)
Thanks! I've now separated the original pages into articles which are now organized much more cleanly. Faulkston 14:46, 7 September 2005 (PDT)

Faulkston, you are a madman. I mean that in a good way. --Eurydice 19:00, 6 September 2005 (PDT)

Yay! Thanks so much, added to whirlpool. --Guppymomma 07:04, 22 January 2006 (PST)

Dead-end pages

Ahoy! It turns out that your (Idea Links) pages comprise the bulk of Special:Deadendpages. Any chance you could have them link to just one item (like their topic)? Thanks! --Barrister 02:43, 10 April 2006 (PDT)

Certainly! I shall leave a message on the talk pages for Ideas Links which I can't think of articles to link back to. -- Faulkston 19:49, 10 April 2006 (PDT)
Thanks for working on this. I took care of the last few, although you may find that I've overlooked some good links. --Barrister 15:29, 11 April 2006 (PDT)

Capitalization

Ahoy! Please don't overcapitalize. For example, in Bumper Boats, the phrase "Shipyard Bazaar" should be all lowercase. Thanks! --Barrister 13:56, 7 May 2006 (PDT)

OK -- Faulkston 13:56, 7 May 2006 (PDT)

Danke

Barnstar2.png I hereby confer upon you a YPPedia Barnstar for your efforts to save pages from deletion in the wake of the new vanity standards. It'd be a shame to see people like Puff or Rexie fall off the map because nobody cared enough to fill in a few details. --Ponytailguy 21:04, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

I have this urge to go around conducting piratey interviews to add to pirate pages in need of more material. I love the barnstar picture - it's cute. -- Faulkston 21:08, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

Puffnstuff

Would you mind filling in Puffnstuff's current crew/flag affiliations? Thanks. --Barrister 21:09, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

I'll be interviewing her tonight, hopefully, and get a lot more details than just that. -- Faulkston 21:12, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
As a general note for easy collection of data, you can always just yank current basic information off her info page (or anybody's, for that matter), particularly useful if you're editing from somewhere where you can't easily get ingame. :) (And sorry if I'm just repeating something that everybody already knows; I have no idea if that's common knowledge or not.)--Emufarmers 21:18, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
Thanks for the reminder about the direct info page links. I'm also mining user pages for relevant neutral point of view information. -- Faulkston 21:53, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

Sniped

I must say out loud 10 times "When Faulkston is online don't bother editing recent changes pages as you will be sniped" :D --Whitemonkey 00:03, 30 October 2006 (PST)

UPAS list

Ahoy there. Please don't alphabetize the "United Pillagers Across Sage" list again. It's supposed to be ordered on availability time, not alphabet. Diadem 14:47, 2 September 2006 (PDT)

None of the other United Pillagers pages are ordered by availability time. But unlike the drinking, hearts, spades or skellies lists, there's no standard template for united pillages. I thought about making templates but until every other pillagers list is agreed to be ordered one way or another, it's going to be tricky to use a standard layout. Sorting by availability time is not so easy either because it's a range, not a single value. -- Faulkston 15:13, 2 September 2006 (PDT)

Hoy Faulkston! Thanks so much for the supplementary time chart, I use it everytime I pillage now. If you have time, I was wondering if it is possible to set up some sort of easy to edit/read page called United_Pillagers_Across_Sage/Scheduled_Pillages. If you read the UPAS forum thread, you'll see that I'm trying to keep the first post updated with scheduled pillages and I'm hoping to (for once) be able to set up a good system of scheduled pillages and I think having an easy to use wiki page would be vital for it, except I've no idea where to start. If you can help, that'll be great!. --ScaryMuffin 11:26, 13 September 2006 (PDT)

I'll have to give this a bit of thought as to the best layout. -- Faulkston 22:59, 13 September 2006 (PDT)

plurals

Quick tip: You can link plurals more easily by doing the following: [[ship]]s. --Barrister 23:08, 2 July 2006 (PDT)

The "Commonly Discussed Idea's" Pages

  • Firstly I would like to say wow you really deserve a prize for such dedication to the art of forum woo

  • My idea though
    • I think it would be really good to include the thread create date at the end of the link to the thread
    • An Example (taken from the Housing (Idea Links) page)
= Deeds =
http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=22748        Created on :: Aug 14, 2005

In this way people going over the lists would be able to quickly see how old (that) thread is before inputting into it, however it does seem like an awful lot of extra work --Shaddowz 13:18, July 17, 2006 (PDT)

If they don't remember to include a "bump" in their post, this addition isn't much help. But it's the date of the last post in the thread which is important for the warning, not the linked thread itself. -- Faulkston 19:17, 17 July 2006 (PDT)

Island pages

Ahoy! I know that the island pages are woefully inconsistent on this subject, but all blockade histories should be written in the past tense. I notice that you made some of the past tense on Meke into present tense. --Barrister 00:45, 17 August 2006 (PDT)

Thanks!

A Question Regarding Templates

While I have read the discussion regarding the Infobox_crew template and understand why it has been decided not to have Fleet Officers and Officers in the main list, a wish by a higher-up in my crew to have such pirates listed led me to add a box for just this matter that could be hidden based on Silverdawg's familiar-hiding section. It's a horrible mess of code and, quite honestly, shouldn't be in an article. I was wondering if templates are open to creation -- I know they are technically, but if it's considered to not be improper form -- by the general editing populous as I think the box created for Moonlit would fit fairly well as a template. --Captain N 19:49, 6 November 2006 (PST)

I'm not a YPPedia administrator so you'd have to ask them if there is any policy against adding optional additional crew member listings to the crew infobox. -- Faulkston 19:52, 6 November 2006 (PST)

Perhaps be a little slower on the draw ;)

There's no need to mark a page for deletion 4 minutes after it's been blanked since the editor may be trying to figure something out. See YPPedia:Editors' Code of Conduct for a longer more drawn out pile of words on the matter, but I'm sure you get what I mean anyhow. :) --Guppymomma 19:09, 17 November 2006 (PST)

OK. -- Faulkston 19:25, 17 November 2006 (PST)
