Featherfin (talk • contribs) – A frequent contributor with a level head on his shoulders. Fiddler 05:54, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept. In a recent discussion regarding administrators, I commented on how I felt there wasn't really a need for any new administrators. However, I'd like to accept this nomination, as I'm grateful to Orsino (Fiddler) for acknowledging my long-standing commitment to the YPPedia - please read my comments below. --Featherfin 07:03, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

Support

  1. Support. Featherfin's contributions to the wiki have been many and valuable. He has an excellent ability to speak clearly during heated debate without letting his passions overrun his judgement.--Fiddler 06:15, 4 June 2006 (PDT)
  2. Support. FF has worked hard to write fact based articles on difficult subjects, collaborating even with former opponents in order to get multiple viewpoints. His willingness to do everything from minor edits to updating infoboxes to writing full historical accounts of people & events is an asset to the wiki. --Guppymomma 17:11, 7 June 2006 (PDT)
  3. Support. Featherfin has a history of solid contributions, most notably his content creation where historic articles were lacking. He has always remained calm during heated debates, and will do well as a moderator when it is needed. He easily meets my standards for adminship. --Fannon 17:13, 7 June 2006 (PDT)
  4. Support. Maybe I’m just a sucker for his grammar (certainly some of the best on the wiki), or maybe it’s that I get his contributions confused with those of Fannon and Fiddler (we’ll have three admins with an “F” name? I’ll never keep it straight!), but looking at him now, the thing which impresses me most is his willingness to move past whatever grudges he might have held, and quickly. (He mentioned both me and Sagacious by name below, and while I haven’t had that much direct interaction with him either way, I know he’s had some less-than-positive encounters with Sagacious in the past, so his mentioning us by name shows a good deal of tact and sense. Plus, I like seeing my name.) Beyond that, he’s got plenty of wiki work, particularly in the aforementioned history department. He’s a shoo-in, as I see it. --Emufarmers 20:48, 7 June 2006 (PDT)
  5. Support. I have seen Featherfin around the wiki alot making lots of good contributions and general page cleaning. Yohohobob

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. In light of the recent debates over the nature of pirate articles, I have become inspired to begin an ongoing project designed to actively attempt to record the history of the game in a social/political context, whilst players from the earlier days are still around. I would use my role as an ambassador of the YPPedia to keep the wiki in contact with the rest of the Y!PP community, pushing for a wider base of contributors and actively targeting and seeking people who could possibly help develop pages on specific historical events or characters. This project will go ahead irrespective of the outcome of my adminship nomination. :) I envision a role for myself based on maintaining the quality of new content produced in light of the prospective policy changes - users such as Sagacious and Emufarmers have already proven time and time again that you don't need to have admin powers to be able to do a good job cleaning up a page or highlighting its faults. The ability to temporarily protect pages would be useful in the more delicate situations, for example the History of Imperio debate.
2. Of your articles or contributions to YPPedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I'm pleased with my ongoing work with Jacktheblack on the Scallywag War as an example of how two people on opposing sides of a very bitter conflict can work together to produce an accurate and unbiased historical article. Related to that project are my work on The By-laws of The Ruby Ring and the Scallywag War Timeline. I also enjoyed writing Chihiro, Ironfisted, Pjotr and Shark's biographies, and Fannon's biography which Zava then refined. My historical contributions to Avalon, Imperio and the Crimperio Alliance page is an example of the sort of content my project will aim to develop. I created the Island Designer box for personal pirate pages [1] and will be making art pages for each specific island design contest after my final exam this Wednesday. I've also continually contributed to Ransack Marauders and Silver Dawn but those are very much group projects.
