Imperio, which derives from the Latin "imperium", has two main definitions and/or meanings. Firstly, it denotes 'power', 'rule', or 'domination' by a ruler or rulers over the inhabitants of his (or their) own state. Secondly, it denotes 'power', 'rule', or 'domination' exercised by one state over another or several states.
More simply, we are a very tight knit and close family, and expect anyone coming into that family to feel like a brother or sister. We believe in an open and honest flag, one which all members, regardless of rank, may participate in fully. To this end we expect and require a lot of feedback from a potential flag mate, but we feel the rewards and returns are great.

Imperio, a flag founded in Azure, has a long history on the Midnight Ocean. Her navy and white flag has been involved in the happenings of Midnight since its inception. Many flags both on Midnight and the other oceans have been formed by former members of Imperio, whilst the flag proper has maintained its traditional base in the Emerald Archipelago. Throughout 2004, Imperio was one of the four founding flags that comprised the Crimperio Alliance, their large size and reputation lending half of their name to the pact.
In late 2004, the face of Imperio changed through inner turmoil. Parthanos was removed as monarch and governor of Spring Island, essentially altering the balance of internal power. Some crews resisted the change and ultimately the flag split into two factions. Under the guidance of the Ocean Master Eris, the crews leaving the flag kept the game data 'shell' of the former flag of Imperio, along with the island of Spring and named themselves Avalon. Crews loyal to Imperio's former leadership took the Imperio name, and Parthanos rebuilt the flag of Imperio with his crew, La Giustizia Implacabile. Since Avalon was the renamed data of old Imperio, it kept Imperio's founding date, even though they were essentially founded at the time of the split. Later the new Imperio was granted their original inception date from the beginning of Midnight to reflect their origins.
Old Imperio's ally data went with the new Avalon, prompting some flags to break off their alliances. But Crimson Tide did not change the state of alliance with the new Avalon, effectively ending the Crimperio Alliance and causing Parthanos's Imperio to seek out new friends and allies. This reborn Imperio attempted to win back Spring Island from Avalon, who had kept possession of the island after the split. However, after a tough fight, Imperio lost the battle, and saw the departure of at least one more Imperio crew to Avalon.
Dogged Parthanos then rebuilt the flag again, welcoming in crews such as Solonor's Arrow to form the third incarnation of Imperio. Upon Parthanos' announcement of his retirement, Runesai, a strongly experienced Captain previously of the Black Moon, stepped up to lead Imperio with a re-newed vision.
