Sealpocalypse 2: Rise of X'ukara
Story
Three winters ago, an unfathomable (albeit adorable) EVIL arose in the frozen north that threatened to engulf the ocean. The return of the dread seal king A'uk was narrowly stopped through the combined bravery of pirating folk and the spirits of a lost race of warrior penguins.
Hark! Evil once more rears its sinister head! The seal-sorceress X'ukara, mother of A'uk, has risen from the snows to punish the realm for her son's imprisonment. She has once more called forth the legions of A'uk to wreak her vengeance!
Arise ye pirates and embrace yer inner penguin! The fate of the very ocean hangs in the balance!
Transformation
All pirates were transformed into swashbuckling penguins, penguin pets that wear hats and eye patches and carry fish skeletons. There were at least eight colors of penguin, with a pirate's usual hair color determining the color of penguin they became.
Pirates could out opt by going to Ye > Options > General and disabling "special event effects." This would return the pirate to normal, although other pirates would still appear as penguins. Players who opted out could still participate in the team competition.
It was not possible to take a portrait while in penguin form.
Brigands, barbarians, and Imperial outpost soldiers were transformed into seals.
Competition
Pirates in all oceans were divided into four teams - pirates from the same crew were all placed in the same team. The teams were each named after a penguin species. Pirates participated by defeating Imperial outposts or by assembling three artefact pieces into a whole artefact. The artefact pieces could be won from the outposts or from brigands and barbarians while pillaging. After winning a pillage battle, each pirate on the ship would win an artefact piece (which appeared as stackables in the "miscellaneous" section of the booty panel). Imperial outpost victories awarded one, two, or three artefact pieces to each pirate, depending on its difficulty. Pieces from three different artefacts could be won, and each artefact had three pieces.
If a pirate had collected all three pieces from a single artefact, they could earn extra points for their team, and win trophies, by assembling the pieces into whole artefacts. Additionally, assembling three copies of a single artefact type would award the pirate a furniture item of that artefact.
On each ocean, an event pirate named Festivity had purchased a house and filled it with all sorts of holiday-themed furniture, except Obsidian, which instead had a ship named 'Festivity'. The house or ship contained a festive fir which allowed pirates to assemble their artefacts. Clicking on the tree would bring up a dialog box. If a pirate did not have all of the pieces for an artefact, that artefact's "assemble" button would be greyed out.
Festivity's house or ship could be whisked to using a button on the Events tab of the noticeboard. In addition, artefacts could be assembled at a location on or near the dock of the following islands:
- Cerulean Ocean: Alpha Island and Dragon's Nest
- Meridian Ocean: Dragon's Nest and Saltstraum Rock
- Emerald Ocean: Greenwich Island and Quetzal Island
- Obsidian Ocean: Port Venture
- Opal Ocean: Quetzal-Insel
- Jade Ocean: Isla Greenwich
The artefacts were assembled as follows:
During the course of the event, to help pirates in pillaging with their team-mates, all jobs on the notice board included the team icon of the crew offering the job. The standings for each team were regularly tallied and updated on a special "Competition!" tab of the notice board.
Furniture
For every three copies of an artefact type assembled, the player was awarded a furniture item of that type. The furniture spawned with a random standard color for its cloth.
