I almost always play on Sage - so I have only an almost all-able pirate on Hunter (named Alfwyn too). --Alfwyn 12:23, 5 March 2008 (PST)

o ok thanks for everything if i see u on hunter ill gladly send u an invite for our crew, if u ask me stats dont reflect a persons real skill

Its me again! hey maybe u could tell me how to get a forum page on the local pirate page? u seem to no alot about the yppedia sooooo if u could...

New Templates

Ahoy! While your contributions to the Yppedia have been greatly appreciated, could you please be careful with new templates creations. I have moved the template you created called ! to User:Alfwyn/Sandbox/Template:!. For ocean disambiguation of pages we use the format {{Ocean_name|Page_to_be_disambiguated}}. So for the building Altered Estates on the Midnight Ocean, it's link would be written as {{Midnight|Altered Estates}}. This ensures that the pages are all created in the same manner.

Of course, when added within the {{House}} (Usage) template this gets a little odd. I'll have a look further into that but at this time I'd rather not see the addition of the template you created as it is a lot more confusing for most of our editors. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:02, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

I think it was what you wrote on the Help desk that lead me to what I first thought. Mostly just a misunderstanding and I apologize for that. I have been doing some more research into this template's use and examples of it on the Wikipedia. And trying to get disambiguation into the House template is a perfect example of a use here. Before we put the template into use, you mentioned other possible places for it in the Yppedia. Any specific examples? -- Cedarwings (talk) 12:19, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
I have no specific other examples at the moment. Most of the often used templates that do autolinking (like {{Familiar winner}} (Usage) or {{Infobox island}} (Usage)) have a built in method to specify an alternate name to display already. --Alfwyn 12:50, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

Rocking the Boat/Running with Scissors

I saw by the history that you added the [ [ and ] ] to Rocking the Boat and Running with Scissors to my pirate page. Please do not reapply these to my page, I have removed them. Both Rocking the Boat and Running with Scissors do not have crew pages so please do not add the [ [ and ] ]. Eepeng 04:48, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

Rocking the Boat/Running with Scissors

In reply to your mail regarding Rocking the Boat, there is no need for the [ [ and ] ] since there is no current page for the crew. I plan to create a page for Rocking the Boat once I speak to the Captain. Until then, please leave the crew name untagged. Eepeng 05:03, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

Regarding your recent message

I am aware that anyone is allowed to edit other's pages but when asked politely, you should consider taking the request seriously. I have already asked you twice now, please do not edit my page to add the "corrections" you previously edited in. In the first place, the Running with Scissors was untagged because I did not want it to lead to another page, but you added a Cobalt tag in and it turned the link red since there was no page linked to it. I will ask you a third time, please stop editing my page to add in your "corrections". Feel free to edit it to tag anything else, except those two crew and flag names. This will be the last I time I request this, please do not reply to this message unless its that you understand. The previous two messages have not been understood correctly. Eepeng 04:50, 12 March 2008 (PDT)

For starters, both Rocking the Boat and Running with Scissors now have pages and no longer appear as a broken link. As such, I have added the links back into article in question. Furthermore, I see nothing that was done wrong in this case. It was one edit for a disambiguation to point to the correct link. -- Cedarwings (talk) 09:22, 12 March 2008 (PDT)

i need help again

hey its me again. just wondering if u could help me put my portrait on my info page Thanx!

I uploaded a portrait for Alderath. Btw the starfish trinket on the page would need a color specified to display properly. You can find valid colornames at Starfish. --Alfwyn 14:14, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

Joey article

Thanks, I can't check the Yoweb pages at the moment as I keep getting proxy errors ever since the last release. -- Vorky 16:56, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

The image thingee

It just happens. We can't delete that individual revision, so it just stays in the list. Only way to kill it off is to completely delete the image here and then reupload a fresh copy. --Guppymomma 10:57, 19 March 2008 (PDT)

So it is a known and harmless issue, good to know. --Alfwyn 11:04, 19 March 2008 (PDT)

thanks

hey thanks for changing that my little brother gets alittle carried away if i let him o nmy computer unsupervised but thanks for changing that again we need to keep the real blockadde history not some made up by a 7 year old signed v1nc3

k need more help, this time its for a flag i haven't the slightest clue what to do with it. if u could help me with that that'd be awsome.

Thanks, Alderath

p.s. the flag is The Pirates Creed

Island trick

Oooo that's neat. Thanks! --Guppymomma 09:55, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

Can you add a case for blank flags like in the couple of Indigo islands (or I guess put "unknown" on those island pages?)? --Guppymomma 09:56, 27 March 2008 (PDT)
Aye, currently testing this. I was thinking of islands with no flagname given, but not about an empty flagname like this two islands. --Alfwyn 09:59, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

Copyrighted images

Ahoy! Just as a side note, images found from Google searches are almost all copyright violations. I found the Pit image on about 3 different sites, so I retagged the image you marked as proposed deletion to copyvio. --Thunderbird 13:21, 28 March 2008 (PDT)

more images

I have a large number of parrots and other items with the new colors at this image. These come from in-game screenshots. I hope it's helpful. --Barrister 13:27, 31 March 2008 (PDT)

Sure it is. That covers a large section of the missing spring color trinkets. And while I think I have figured out the mask for the parrot head/body parts, actual screenshots are probably better. --Alfwyn 13:35, 31 March 2008 (PDT)

Karkinos

Just wanted to let you know that I changed the name of the image for the Karkinos for the colors that we have so far. I updated the link you had to it on your missing images page. I also added a couple today too. -- Cedarwings (talk) 17:50, 31 March 2008 (PDT)

Lily trinket

I just thought I should point out that your new image for the Lily broke that page, and possibly other stuff such as my trinkets section Intner. But I don't know how to fix it. --Inschato 22:16, 31 March 2008 (PDT)

..... Nevermind.

Pirate page in user page

Am i allowed to post on my user page how my pirate page would look like if i was allowed to do it my way not the wiki way? --Saintdiana 00:32, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

Your user page is subject to very few rules. User pages are also not allowed to be edited by other users. If there are things on your user page that do not belong, an administrator may remove them. One of the most common examples of this is the use of the ocean category, which is used on a pirate page, but is not permitted on a user page. -- Cedarwings (talk) 01:34, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

Pssst...light green

You should change both instances so it shows up in the example as two words. --Guppymomma 14:40, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I am obviously crazy and was struck by caching :) Sorry! --Guppymomma 14:45, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

fanart and event images

Image:FullbeardPoolAv.jpg and others like it should use the {{wiki event image}} (Usage) template. In addition the artist attribution tag (fanart, avatar, etc) should list the original artist, not merely the uploader. In this case that artist was micklauer - it's better to leave attribution on things like this blank than to have them mis-attributed. --Fiddler 19:34, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Hm, I was tagging it like all the other images used on User:Hiimeric2001/Cire's Super Bowl Pool 2009. But yes, they probably all have other original artists. The images seem to be usually taken from avatars, then recropped/resized and a name added (most likely by Hiimeric2001). --Alfwyn 19:50, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
So I guess the way to go is to tag them all as "wiki event image" and probably put a "misnamed image" on them too, since they should have been named "Event-something" ? Trying to figure out the original artist in every case or how to do shared attribution would be quite some bit of work I'm not sure I'm willing to do. --Alfwyn 20:28, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Faulkston started it. /me points accusing fingers. =D Anyway, I suspect the trick to finding the original artist is to see if you can find the full-size avatar already present on YPPedia by searching under the account name for the pirates in question. You can (hopefully) find the account name by looking at who created each pirate's article, if it exists. Though that procedure has about four or five ifs in it. --Belthazar451 22:00, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for being a pain in the arse >_<. Aye, I just took the avatars that people had up on their forum accounts, shrunk them to 50x50 and added the name to ensure it was plenty visible. Blackhammer, Seniorrules, and Ruhannah didn't have forum avatars so I just cropped and shrunk the portrait they had displayed in game. Sorry again :P --Hiimeric2001 06:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I've switched the tags from fanart to wiki event image for now. -- Faulkston 07:30, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Zuyua Mist building images

Hey Alf, the dropping of the question mark from the image file names for the Zuyua Mist buildings was deliberate, as the question mark in the URL breaks things. So you can remove them from your reminder list, especially since one of the pages has now been moved. =) --Belthazar451 13:17, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Aye, removed the renamed one, thank ye. I know that simply changing the imagename isn't the solution. Being able to specify the imagename independent from the name on the top of the infobox would be though. --Alfwyn 14:37, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Angry Young and Poor

Ahoy! I'm very confused with this page... if you look at the line near the bottom, it says "This crew was renamed Malachite Madness after leaving the flag The Usual Suspects in October 2008." Was it renamed from Malachite Madness or was it renamed Malachite Madness, if so, why hasn't the page been moved? Should I be moving it to Malachite Madness and then mark that crew as defunct? --Addihockey (talk/contribs) 23:37, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Looking up the Yoweb for the last known captain, Samos is clearly the current captain of a crew called Malachite Madness on the Malachite Ocean. It is safe to assume that the statement in true and the page should be moved as such; reciprocating the statement in the article to reflect it as well. -- Haywoodx(t/c) 23:51, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I believe that this crew was recreated, as mentioned on the talk page... so doesn't it belong back on the Angry Young and Poor page? The founded dates have changed.... the crewids have changed... so the crew is most likely recreated... should I revert my move? --Addihockey (talk/contribs) 00:08, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
The crew was almost certainly recreated at some point (different crewid and founding date). If the rename statement is accurate (October), it was first renamed, then disbanded and recreated. But it may have been just a recreation under a new name. Let's see if I can catch the captain ingame --Alfwyn 15:35, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks!

Yanno one day I might just remember to check links and disambiguation!--davsbrander 10:13, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

The Synicade (flag)

I see this as they are closely related like viridian and cobalt islands their names are the same and you never know someone might be looking for the flag Synicade and when they type it in it only takes them to the crew. I propose it become a disambig page with the crew the synicade so people can find it easily V1nc3 19:23, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I added a disambiguation link to the crew page, so the flag page can be found. --Alfwyn 12:53, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Page moving

Ahoy! The wiki's playing up again, so would you mind moving Ubiquitous pilferers to Ubiquitous Pilferers? =) --Belthazar451 11:02, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Doesn't work for me either - I'll try it later again. --Alfwyn 16:02, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Waiting a bit seems to help. --Alfwyn 18:57, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

No longer exist pirates.

Greetings. I notice that there's quite a number of pirates no longer exist in the game but still has it's own page here. I'm curious as to how you update the page? Is there a such template/tag that one can use to indicate that the user no longer exist? --Yaypuzzlez 13:38, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

No, there is no formal way for that. Usually the sentence "This pirate has been deleted." is added to the page in such cases, and the introductory sentence rewritten in past tense. --Alfwyn 13:51, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah, fair enough. Thanks! --Yaypuzzlez 14:02, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Trinkets

Nice work on the single-colour trinkets. I'm almost done the 18x18 trinkets - I just have the pin-with-gem pins to go. I'll add the new colours for the the 18x3 trinkets as well, as by the time I've done the jeweled star medal, I'll have all the stuff I'll need to do them easily. --Belthazar451 15:04, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

The compact trinket display template will need to be updated. There are 28 colors now - make that 4x7 or 3x10 ? --Alfwyn 15:38, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Whichever looks prettier, I guess. I'd hazard 3x10. =) --Belthazar451 16:13, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

You've acidentally uploaded the Daisy-with-card image to Image:Colour Daisy.png. I've got a light blue daisy to add to it once you've re-uploaded the real one. Unless you add it first. =) --Belthazar451 05:54, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I just noticed while editing the image to add the light blue. I'll fix it up. --Alfwyn 05:56, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Do you still have original screenshots of the light green and magenta daisy somewhere around? Because I noticed some small (1 pixel) differences in their shape in respect to all the other daisies, including the light blue (lower side of right leaf). --Alfwyn 06:31, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
I might have made those two by cutting the card off the palace shoppe's daisy-with-card at Valentine's Day, assuming that they were identical apart from the card. Possibly I made some sort of transcription error there. I don't really recall, but it seems likely. It simple to fix by just copying the leaf over from one of the other daisies. --Belthazar451 07:24, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks!

Cheers for cleaning up a couple of the links on my pirate page, though perhaps double check things before you publish as you turned one into a red link: Rudder Duckies to Rudder Duckies. Whoopsie! All fixed now, disambig included. :)

Re: Removing the speedy delete

Re: "Ahoy! I removed the speedy delete from Image:Avatar-XxKanGalxX-Ezmerelda M.png‎, since it is the correct name. Avatar filenames and avatar image tags use the forum name of the artist, not a piratename (see YPPedia:Style_guide#File_Names and YPPedia:Image_tags#Tagging options). That way the link of the avatar tag can be used to get to the forum profile of the creator to contact him/her. --Alfwyn 12:40, 14 July 2009 (UTC)"

Sorry - It had the wrong artist name :S I got confused because the thread on the forums is "managed" by XxKanGalxX, but the artist responsible for the actual artwork is Bernhard. What should I do to fix it up? Adrielle =) 23:04, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I see - that confused me too. It looks like Bernhard2 is the actual artist. --Alfwyn 11:36, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Sword pin trinket

Who does the labour to get trinkets available on here? I think I have one that I cannot reproduce or at least I didn't find out how to: [[Media:[Sword_pin_yellow_orange_silver_yellow.jpg|yellow hilt sword pin]]] -- Kamuflaro 18:57, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

The sword pins were my mistake. Actually they all have the same colour hilt as the pin's primary, but having not noticed that when I first made the images, I gave them all orange hilts. I've been attempting to collect images of the pins in order to rectify that situation, but so far I've only been able to find two or three. Yellow is one of the ones I already have. --Belthazar451 22:17, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Disambiguation

Ahoy! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that a disambiguation page with only two articles (One being a defunct flag and the other an active crew) is inappropriate. I do believe that it is appropriate to have a disambiguation page with two different active crews/flags, but not when one of the articles in question is defunct. I've been told myself not to do so, that's why I strongly believe it's incorrect. Thanks! --Addihockey (talk/contribs) 13:08, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Wether or not to set up a disambiguation page for two articles was discussed here and there seems to be no clear concensus on the matter. If you are referring to the Sabotage disambiguation page I made, well the articles with disambiguated names were already there. Anyway I think that it is a good option in this case, since both articles seem to be about equally important in wiki terms (number of links to the page). In my opinion the linking scheme is to be preferred if it is highly likely that a reader wants to find one article, but not the other (Midnight being an extreme example). --Alfwyn 13:44, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I know about the disambiguation for two articles being a grey area of the wiki guidelines, but I wasn't referring to that. What I was referring to was the fact that one of the articles in question was a defunct flag. When I moved the T-N-T article to do the same thing (made a disambiguation page for T-N-T (Sage) and a differant flag of the same name that was defunct) and got several no-nos from various editors (Please refer to my archive for the discussion. --Addihockey (talk/contribs) 19:07, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I think that was because T-N-T has many links pointing to it, which would need all to be changed if the page is moved. Doing this just to create a page for a dormant flag (which probably won't collect many links) is not a good idea. In this case I would strongly prefer the old page left in place, just adding a disambiguation link using {{for2}} (Usage) at the top of the page pointing to the other page. --Alfwyn 20:40, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I've noticed that too

I've noticed the "Cache control" stuff, and somehow it gets in there when I edit with this Mac. I'm going to see if I can go on the PC ( it's not mine) --Addihockey (talk/contribs) 15:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

I'll just hunt the stuff down with search, it seemed to have happened only a few times. Mysterious. --Alfwyn 15:28, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

What the Cabins

Thanks for fixing/moving the image. I saw the forum thread and popped over here to change the name, not realize that I'd break the image link in the process. (I'm Helping! :p) --Starhawk 17:59, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Language template

Maybe it's just me, but... it doesn't work, even at the top of a page. Your user page just starts with "This example works on wikipedia but not here." Using Firefox 3.0.13. --Belthazar451 11:47, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Hm, will check firefox. Do you see the links at the mainpage ? --Alfwyn 11:56, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Works for me with Firefox 2.0 on Solaris and Iceweasel (essentially Firefox) 3.0.6 on Debian Linux. You are looking to the right of the article tite, not at the start of the article ?--Alfwyn 12:06, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
I have no idea what the intended output is even meant to look like, but there's nothing out of the ordinary at all. Here's a screenshot. --Belthazar451 12:11, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Which skin do you use ? Seems to work with PuzzlePirates and PuzzlePiratesStretch for me, but not with MonoBook. --Alfwyn 12:16, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Yah, I was busily writing that when I got an edit conflict. =P It works for me with the PP skin, but not monobook. Which is a shame, cause I'd kinda rather stick with monobook. --Belthazar451 12:17, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
(unindent) It's just that the "topicon" definition is missing in Monobook.css . Ways to fix it:
  • Pluck the definition into Mediawiki:Monobook.css
  • Move the definition to Mediawiki:Common.css
  • Just use the expanded CSS in the template
    • I did this for the german version Vorlage:Sprachen, where I can't edit the skins and the existing skins were missing the definition.
    • This method might be not that elegant, and wouldn't fix it for the Mainpage without replicating it there. Then again I don't know wether to prefer hiding things in Common.css or in a template.

Tracking Opal Buildings to make PCTB happy?

Ahoy, I realized about the not tracking Opal buildings, that's why I sticked to the Palaces and Commodities Market (not likely to change that often, are they ;) It's been alot easier for a test run to just add 1-2 buildings then to get PCTB to understand the de and es namespaces. It turned up enough missing features to submit some bug reports. (I could'nt find their server side code on the project page.) So for now I'll refrain from adding more buildings and see what can be done serverside. --Karlimero 11:36, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Block User:Mikek13 please

I can't seem to find an organized AIV area on the YPPedia, so I'm just going to poke a random active administrator about it. User:Mikek13 has been involved in recent edit warring and vandalization regarding the Inferno and Talk:Inferno pages, and has shown disregard for our warnings and the YPPedia policies, so I'm recommending that he be blocked for the time being. He's not the only one edit warring, of course, but his vandalism has crossed a line, as far as I'm concerned. Chupchup 19:53, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

I didn't follow the activity lately, so I poked other admins in the hope to escape digging through tons of edit histories. --Alfwyn 20:11, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

RfC opened at YPPedia talk:Policies and guidelines

Hello, I got your name from a prior RfC where you commented, and thought you would be interested in this one. It's a relatively minor point, whether to restrict standard-named vessels from crew and flag articles like personal pirate pages. You can find it at YPPedia talk:Policies and guidelines#Bullet list of Ships on Crew/Flag pages. Thanks for your attention. Chupchup 00:42, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Programming

Can you program in Java? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Myrky (talkcontribs)

Yes, but it's a while since I've done anything with it, so I have not much experience with newer features like generics. --Alfwyn 22:14, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, why don't you try programming again? It's fun. Myrky 23:04, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Well, so far nobody persuaded me with something that pays well enough while still being fun. So it's just some hobby projects for now, but not in java. --Alfwyn 14:42, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you!

Just a quick thank you note for yours and Belthazar's help fixing the pirate artist template in Spanishpedia. It works like a charm as we can see in Narci's page. Serixx
