- Welcome to the game. :) Check out the Starting out article for a basic introduction to the game and a description of the ways to earn Pieces of Eight. --Zava 19:34, 2 August 2006 (PDT)
about makeing portariat backgrounds
hi i was wondering are we alowed to use a screen shot from the game or do we have to hand make it. wut i mean by creen shot is if i take a picture and edit it can i submit it?
srry tobother you
- Please read the directions at portrait background contest. It clearly states that it needs to be your own original artwork. That does not include screenshots or images you find on the internet. Good luck with your entry. --Guppymomma 19:08, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
ok ty
but i have another question can they be hand drawn or do they have to be drawn on a computer
- As long as it fits the rules for submissions given in the instructions (read them carefully), you may draw it using whatever you want. --Guppymomma 21:12, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
why cant i play
h ave downloaded and made an account but when i loog in it says some thing like bein banned but im new to this game i havent played before how do i get on to play?
- Someone from your IP: possibly on the same computer, or on the same network, has probably been banned before. Try and email banpleading@puzzlepirates.com to enquire. Or, you could post in the technical issues forum - click on "forums" at the top there. --Lizzie 06:36, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- The banpleading e-mail address is definitely your best bet. The forums will only tell you to send e-mail there. --Barrister 15:52, 4 August 2006 (PDT)

Default value templates and 'all that jazz'
Please could someone point me to some material regarding the shiny new 'default paramter' things for templates? I looked at the source code for some pages, amd I haven't got the foggiest. I barely got my head around the subtemplates. It means I can then actually understand what some of the templates are doing, and maybe even make my own (though full of errors). Thanks! --Piplicus
- Maybe this page is of some help? It's complicated and confusing, but it might at least give a minor understanding. Basically, we use parameter defaults as a sort-of crutch for new users; for example, in {{Infobox flag}} (Usage), the default value for the "number of islands" parameter is zero: {{{numberofislands|0}}}. This way, the template works even if users forget to fill in parameters that need to be filled, eliminating some frustration and confusion. I hope that helps, if only a little. :) --Yaten talk 11:46, 20 August 2006 (PDT)
Good God, that's horrendous. Heh! However, what you said does make sense, so thankyou! I'll keep battling through that and the related pages when I get time. --Piplicus 17:57, 20 August 2006 (PDT)
My pirate has disappered
Please help. I can still log in but my pirate is no longer there. When I try to make it again it says that my name is already taken. Is it because I wasn't playing for a long time?
Megs
- Almost certainly so mate : ( After 2-4 weeks of inactivty your pirates are purged.--Angelbeaver (talk) 17:00, 25 August 2006 (PDT)
Souped-up Signatures?
I'm curious - I see some Wiki signatures with a little extra tacked on, such as a superscript '(t/c)' with links to the talk and contributions pages of that user. Is there a way of actually modifying your signature to have it automatically add the extra text, or must that be typed in manually every time you sign a page?
Thanks muchly,
Go to preferences at the top, and where it says 'nickname', type the text that you would like displayed when you sign a comment with --~~~ or --~~~~ (the first one doesn't show a date). Then when you sign, it replaces it. --Piplicus 19:59, 26 August 2006 (PDT)
Alright, a second question - how did I miss the little "preferences" link on top of the page? ;)
Thanks, Pip. <3.
- To make that work you must check the 'raw link' box or else what you entered will have additional quotes around it and break it. --Angelbeaver (talk) 04:12, 27 August 2006 (PDT)
Pet help
How can you find your pet if you lost it? I can't remember where I left him to roam is there anyway to find him?
- Sure! Click Ye, then Info, then Placed Pets. --Zava 20:15, 27 August 2006 (PDT)
Then click reclaim and it will return to your booty tab.

Parser Functions
After reading through some more MetaWiki, I decided to try and see whether I could code up something remotely useful. As per usual these days, it doesn't seem to work. Right now, I've completely simplified it to its bare essentials, to see if that works. It doesn't. Quelle surprise.
The code is:
{{#ifexist: {{{1}}} | [[{{{1}}}]] | {{{1}}}}}
Basically, if parameter 1 exists (a crew page), it autolinks the article. If not, it just leaves the term be.
Do parser functions not work on here, or am I making some really stupid error with syntax? Entries go as {{crew|crewname}}, but they just turn out as:
--Piplicus 11:56, 29 August 2006 (PDT)
Let me answer this one myself =)
"Most ParserFunctions (except #if, which does not work at all) work just as well on MediaWiki 1.6,"
So, we'll just have to wait until we get 1.7, and then we'll be just dandy. --Piplicus 12:55, 29 August 2006 (PDT)
I really can't read. I fail.
