An all-ocean event. |
Rewrite the rules entry results for Sante of the Sage Ocean. |
This entry was successful because while it was a little rough around the edges, the illustrated prize table and intro section were beautifully done. Please see Nobooty to recieve your golden ticket. |
All spectators and participants need to follow these rules to make the Booty or No Booty event run smoothly. Pirates who can't follow the rules don't deserve to take part.

Behaviour and Etiquette
After entering the BoNB house, don't:
- Swear
- Spam
- Shout
- Job for a blockade
- Dockpress
- Harass people
- Walk onto the stage
- Attempt to hearty anyone and everyone
- Make fake bids (you should only bid what you can pay)
- Pester Nobooty in /tells repeatedly
- Disrupt the flow of the game significantly
- Be grossly disrespectful, or otherwise
- Act like an idiot
If you do any of these things, you will be planked and barred from all future episodes of Booty or No Booty forever.
So be nice. And while virtue is its own reward, if you're really nice, your host may be nice back.
Game Overview
Booty or No Booty is a game where one person wins a prize - but what that prize is isn't known till the end of the game. Over the weeks, there are many chances to win golden tickets during tournaments, events, or even contests on BoNB game day. If you win one yourself, you can use it to try and get into the hot seat. If you do, you can claim a mystery box. You then gradually eliminate other mystery prizes - what's left could be in your box. In the meantime, other people will be offering you money to give up your box - just how much will depend on what prizes are left and how much they want the chance you've got to win one of them.
Before the game
One hour before the game starts, an Oceanmaster or oceanmaster alt will send out a /broadcast across the ocean. This will typically point out when it is starting, what can be won, and a link to this page. On the more heavily-populated oceans, a location will NOT be given. To enter the event, you must come to this page (which you evidently already have done!), and go to one of the following...
Game Locations
- Midnight: Thousand Caves of Doriath, Islay of Luthien
- Cobalt: Estate of Intoxication, Kirin Island
- Viridian: Sin City, Olive Island
- Sage: The Great Estate, Admiral Island
- Hunter: Tortilla Villas, Chachapoya Island
The host of the event is Nobooty.
Remember that the event doesn't start until an hour after the broadcast, and while you are in the house, you are bound to the above behaviour rules. You're welcome to play poker, or swordfight, or engage in any other parlor games available while you wait - why not bring your favorite table to ensure you can play?
Between 5 and 15 minutes before the scheduled event time, a golden ticket may be given out. Nobooty won't be telling how or when, so please don't ask!
Golden ticket lottery
At the start of the show, Nobooty will ask for golden tickets. If you have a golden ticket to hand in, "trade" Nobooty and wait for him to get to you. Your golden ticket will only count if it has your name - or no name at all - on it. After five minutes, those who have submitted a ticket will be invited to the other side of the garden, where a number of boxes have been set up. One by one, each person who submitted one will get to pick a box and keep it. (A player can have one box for every ticket he submits). Once all the boxes have been given out, you may open it and check what is inside.
Possible present contents:
Contents | Meaning | What to do |
---|---|---|
Bandana | You have not won | Nothing |
Bid ticket | You have not won | Nothing |
Greeting card | If it says to shout 'BOOTY', you will be in the hot seat | Wait until Nobooty asks for you to shout out 'BOOTY!' |
If it says that you've won a refund, you get a refund | Wait until Nobooty asks for you to shout 'NO BOOTY!', and then wait until Nobooty trade requests you for the card in exchange for another golden ticket. | |
Other gift | You haven't won, but you won a consolation prize! | It depends. Listen to what Nobooty says. |
The winner will then be invited onto the stage. Everyone else is now a normal spectator and may bid and try to win a surPRIZE.
Main game
Once the contestant has been chosen, the main game begins!
The contestant will say a little about themselves, introducing you to them, before picking their box (out of 22) for the show. The box that they pick will USUALLY be the box they win at the end of the game (see switcheroo for technicalities). That box will then be put aside.
Nobody knows what's in each box, but this is what they collectively contain (N.B. Actual prize may differ in colour or specifications from that shown):
Tan bandana |
5 PoE |
Fish skeleton |
100 PoE |
Short hemp stack |
400 PoE
|
Rum barrel furniture |
Stiletto |
2,500 PoE
|
Fancy wardrobe |
7,500 PoE
|
Skull furniture |
Flower trinket |
Weapon |
70,000 PoE |
Throne |
Full outfit |
200,000 PoE |
Pig or Turtle |
Rare artifact |
500,000 PoE |
Familiar |
The 21 remaining prizes gradually get eliminated.
In the first round, 5 boxes are eliminated. Each box and its contents are removed. The contents of removed boxes can now no longer be won.
For example, if the player eliminated the familiar on the first box, we know not only that the player's chosen box doesn't contain the familiar, but also that no other unopened boxes do. This means the present is lost for that episode, and nobody will win the familiar.
After 5 boxes have been opened, other pirates have the chance to bid for the player's chosen box. See the bidding section below for more details.
The aim of the game for the player is to eliminate the blue, low value, boxes, so that the only prizes left to win are good ones. However, it's all plain guessing - noone, not even Nobooty, knows which prize is in which box - so you can't be sure what you're eliminating.
When Nobooty has told the player the highest bid for the hot seat, the player can do one of two things:
- Say booty: They receive the PoE offered, leave the game, and the box passes on to the successful bidder.
- Say no booty: The game continues as normal.
This continues for five more rounds, where in each round 3 more boxes are eliminated, leaving 14, 11, 8, 5 and 2 boxes left.
surPRIZES
The main game has occasional "intermissions" for a few minutes. They may be during a round, during the bidding, or just between rounds. They will happen when Nobooty decides, so do not request a surPRIZE, or Nobooty will purposefully delay it.
Typically, 5 or 6 (or maybe more) boxes of an unrelated colour will be on the board. A task will be announced, such as answering a trivia question, or doing something. The winner of the task (who may not be the first one to answer) gets to pick a box and win the contents. Sometimes, extra twists may occur, such as gambling the contents of the box or opting for a blind sum of cash.
Prizes from this section may range from trinkets to clothes to weapons (sword, mug, bludgeon) or even something very rare. Who knows? Probably not even Nobooty...
Bidding
After the end of every round, there will be a chance to buy the chosen box off of the current player. This is done in two sections:
- Wave 1
Wave 1 is a gauge round. When Nobooty says so, you should /tell him how much money you would be willing to pay to buy that box.
BIDS ARE IN PoE ONLY; DOUBLOONS, SHIPS, AND OTHER FORMS OF BARTERING TENDER WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
At the end of about 30 seconds, time will be up. The highest bid in that round will be announced and the bidding will proceed to wave 2.
- Wave 2
The second wave is the actual wave of bidding. You should use the top bid in the previous wave as a guestimate for how much the others are bidding.
Each second wave will have a bidding threshold. Bids that come over this, or very close to it, should be sent in a /pay to Nobooty. Bids under that should still come as a /tell. All /paid bids that were not successful will be returned.
After the time is up, the highest bid is tallied, the offer made, and the contestant must make the infamous choice - booty, or no booty.
Switcheroo
After the sixth round of bidding, the player currently in the hot seat will be asked to open one of two special boxes, usually named aptly, such as "Artemis" & "Demeter", or even "Jelly" & "Jam". One invites the player to swap their box for the other remaining one if they wish. The other has no effect.
If the player is allowed the swap and chooses it, they win the contents of the remaining box. Otherwise, they win the contents of the box that was picked right at the start of the game.
