bad things club
hello good workers, i and some of my friends have realized that some people have been DISQUSTING on the chat circles!!!! we then relized that a club that posts "guards" in main islands to stop people from being GROSS in the private part sense. we decided thst it was best to ask permission to start this club. if you wish to talk to another member of this potential club, you can speak to iceheart (me) in the viridian or freeze also in the viridian. your admirer in programming, --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Heavenforbid 00:05, July 2, 2006

Editing pages
I've been looking around on how to use 'memorized' routes until i found out all by myself. I edited the memorization page to tell everyone how to use the 'memorized' routes. Problem is that i'm not sure if your other pages have it and yes, i wrote it on my own. So should i just leave the just edited alone or do i remove my edition?
-Nightninja
- I appreciate your efforts to contribute, however I had to revert your change to the memorization page. You had several spelling and grammar errors there. Sorry. --Barrister 11:14, 6 July 2006 (PDT)
Greeter or OM
hi im 14 and im from hunter ocean, im a very keen gamer and im always looking to help people. I was wondering if possible i could be and OM(i know im underage) or a greeter(a better option) i would always help others and im very keen.
* * *
Three Rings will only hire OceanMasters when they so wish, and it will be advertised both on the forums and here. However, there is absolutely no chance that anyone under the age of 18 will become an OM.
As for being a greeter, the best thing you can do is to brush up on the punctuation and to actually help greenies whenever you want to on the docks. Eventually, you may get noticed and recommended. However, please do not log on as a greenie alt and pester a greeter about yourself; that's the surefire way to be turned down. --Piplicus 12:00, 6 July 2006 (PDT)

how do you report people to the ocean masters
- Ingame, go to the "Ye" panel, click on the help button, and then you'll see the complain button. --Emufarmers 00:02, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
Orphaned Talk Pages
I've been wandering across orphaned talk pages (like this one) - I've marked a couple for deletion, but wanted to confirm the policy before I kept marking more...--AtteSmythe 15:24, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
- We don't really have a policy, but I suspect most of them should be marked as {{proposed deletion}}. There might be a few that should be kept and/or relocated. --Barrister 15:57, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
Reverts
I just realised that I have no idea what to do to revert a page. Erk --Angelbeaver 20:11, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
- Nonadmins have to use the History to revert a page. Go to the History and click one of the time/date links to view the copy of the page saved at that time/date. Then go to the Edit tab on that copy, and Save it. It will override the current version. Remember to include a summary! --Ponytailguy 20:41, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
- At least the next person who searches for information on this will have an easier time. :) (A big problem is that a lot of important articles on wiki editing and policy are in the YPPedia namespace, and thus won't show up an an ordinary search; hence, redirecting likely-searched terms is a good idea.) --Emufarmers 21:54, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
Truncated edit pages
I keep getting truncated pages when ctrl-clicking edit with Firefox. Does MediaWiki have something against opening in a new tab? Gail 09:39, 13 July 2006 (PDT)
- Now I'm not sure if it's really because of ctrl-clicking. Gail 10:11, 13 July 2006 (PDT)
- I edit with Firefox all the time and I've never had trouble, but I click with the wheel instead of ctrl. Hmm. --Ponytailguy 10:28, 13 July 2006 (PDT)
- Ditto. For kicks, I ctrl-clicked this very edit. Will it truncate? Let's find out! --AtteSmythe 10:36, 13 July 2006 (PDT)
- Okay, it's not because of ctrl-click. What I get is, I try to edit a page, the page loads, and when I scroll down to where I want to edit I find that the text box hasn't loaded to the end of the page. Perhaps something to do with changing tabs before the page finishes loading? Gail 10:43, 13 July 2006 (PDT)
- This is another example of the results from when that happens. (Apparently that one happenened after I made my edits and went for preview.) Gail 13:12, 21 July 2006 (PDT)
- I archived June's discussions. Can't hurt. Other than that, I have little idea why your edits could possibly be truncating. :/ --AtteSmythe 13:24, 21 July 2006 (PDT)

YPPediapages in different languages
I read a thread on the forum that suggested that someone translate some of the pages to different languages. User:Xfinniganx and I are currently working on making a norwegian Starting out. I was wondering, where do I place it, when it is done? --Kinocha 15:40, 16 July 2006 (PDT)
- This would be the first non-English page on YPPedia. We've never discussed the issue, so we'd need to figure out where it goes. --Barrister 15:44, 16 July 2006 (PDT)
- I'd imagine it might be more pushed to be the same page name with a bracketed language - e.g. Starting out (Norwegian) - but that is only a suggestion as to how I'd see it working out. --Sagacious (talk) 15:50, 16 July 2006 (PDT)
- Found the thread where the sugestion was raised. http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=677890#677890 --Kinocha 15:54, 16 July 2006 (PDT)
- Go with Sagacious' suggestion. We should make a category for 'em. If there are other docs that get translated or whatnot, we can reexamine things when it's more than just one. Potentially if there were a whole pile of them, there could be a new namespace or something. --Guppymomma 15:58, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

Linking to a section
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, or whatever.. its just a quick question - I'm updating Faulkston's pirate page, but can't work out how to link only to the Faulkston'd part of the forum fads and in-jokes page. Thanks. --Lizzie 06:49, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- Just type the link as you normally would, then add a #, then the section name i.e [[Forum_fads_and_in-jokes#Faulkston'd]]. --Nicksterv 06:53, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- Great, thanks! That's easy :) --Lizzie 06:54, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- Use a pound (#) symbol: So, Forum_fads_and_in-jokes#Faulkston'd. (Avast, Nickster and his sniping! [And then Lizz responding before I could even resolve the edit conflict!]) --Emufarmers 06:55, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- What country are you in where that is a pound? rofl.. that's a hash! ;) --Lizzie 06:59, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- You're right; I'm not quite sure where I picked up that particular name for it. (It could indeed be that it's called that in some places.) I knew there was a better name for it, but that didn't seem too important. :P --Emufarmers 07:03, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- Actually, I was completely right: You crazy Brits (or other assorted Non-American types) just have it completely wrong. Yeah, that's it. (Besides: Hash ought to be used to refer to something edible!) --Emufarmers 07:06, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- Well would you look at that; you learn something every day. (I'm NZ by the way :P) --Lizzie 07:18, 19 July 2006 (PDT)

- I disagree that you were right. It's known as a hash symbol on a standard keyboard, and was traditionally known as a pound symbol in America. Important word there is was. --Sagacious (talk) 07:20, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- Humercount++, Sag? And it is called the pound symbol in the US; read the whole article. (Over here, you would generally say lb. when referring to weight, but the symbol itself can indeed be referred to as a pound in American discourse, though hash works too. [Where you live, it's hash, no contest, I'm sure. :)]) --Emufarmers 07:46, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
- £ = pound sign :) --Nicksterv 07:25, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
£ (pound sterling) != pound as a measurement of weight. They're both correct. But on keyboards, I call # a hash, as on telephones. --Featherfin 08:56, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
Village pump?
Don't we have something of the sort? The main way of communications between projects right now seems to be recent changes-patrolling. I just saw this discussion and wondered if such a village pump would be used at all if it existed, but it'd be nice to know what the YPPedia community is currently up to. (And I'll have a place to bump the featured article discussion.) Gail 13:12, 21 July 2006 (PDT)
- The idea of a Village Pump for the YPPedia came to my head once, but I dismissed it after I realized the only reason I liked it was for the opportunity to make the pun, "Billage Pump."
- Seriously, though: I'd see that as potentially redundant, in part because we do always have the forums (if somebody thought it was warranted, I'm sure the Ringers could be convinced to create a YPPedia forum there). Mind you, I myself also have various things I bump and bump, to no avail (bump bump bump), but it'd probably be more effective if I PMed other editors on the forums, if I wanted desperately to get people to focus on that. I would like to see us doing something with the community portal, but even that might be more than we really need (although I could see definite uses for it). --Emufarmers 11:43, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
- Not much to add other than support++--Angelbeaver (talk) 12:17, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
- As I've said before, please feel free to take up the cause of making the Community portal a useful, working spot for the community. It's a good idea. Please see the link on the lefthand sidebar for the spot that's being referred to. --Guppymomma 15:47, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
- I think the main thing that's been keeping people from working on the community portal is the fact that it's protected. Such protection could conceivably be done away with, given that our problems with scribbling and vandalism are relatively minor, and even Wikipedia doesn't protect their community portal. --Emufarmers 16:27, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
- Making a mockup with any ideas you have, similar to Angelbeaver's portrait page for the featured article is an option to test out any plans you might have. I will also reiterate that the YPPedia is not the Wikipedia, and constantly drawing parallels between the two is not relevant. --Featherfin 16:48, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
- Found here Fyi --Angelbeaver (talk) 17:04, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
- Is there any reason the portal should remain protected? Unless the Ringers have passed down an edict stating that it must be so, we shouldn't be averse to discussing unprotection as an option. Mockups are a highly cumbersome and impractical solution (I made "the original mockup," so there's no need to explain their function to me; I'm not good at fabricating tables, though, so I might have trouble making one here), and protection renders incremental improvements (exactly what the portal needs) impossible ("protected pages are considered bad for a community edited project"; from our guidelines, not Wikipedia's). If there's a real reason for that page to remain protected, that's fine, but if it's just that way because it's always been that way, we should reconsider. --Emufarmers 17:20, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
- It was just protected because there was a user adding random bits about wedding planning back then. I'll unprotect it as long as you don't turn it into a wedding guide ;) --Guppymomma 19:45, 22 July 2006 (PDT)

portrait images
Hey can someone tell me the policy about using portraits with more than one player in a pirate page? I've been adding portraits to the pirate stubs as my current project, but some people only have multiplayer portraits and none by themselves. Just curious if it would be inappropriate if for instance, for Longshotz's page, I put a portrait of him and I on our wedding day. --Lizzie 06:03, 24 July 2006 (PDT)
- I don't know if there's a policy, per se. I remember one I'd cleaned up a couple months back. She only had a two-pirate portrait, so I trimmed it down to regular portrait size and put just her on the page. For that portrait in particular, it worked. --AtteSmythe 08:22, 24 July 2006 (PDT)
- Oh, that makes sense. I think I'll start doing that too. Thanks. --Lizzie 08:30, 24 July 2006 (PDT)
- Another option is to put any particularly nice avatar artwork they have of their character in its place. See Ironfisted for an example. --Featherfin 10:25, 24 July 2006 (PDT)
- Oh, that makes sense. I think I'll start doing that too. Thanks. --Lizzie 08:30, 24 July 2006 (PDT)
Deleteing your own files
If I upload a file onto YPPedia, and decide for some reason that I dont want the file on the pedia anymore, can I delete it or do i have to flag it for deletion by an admin?
- Only YPPedia administrators can delete files (or any other page). Tagging it with one of the deletion templates should have it removed in a day or less, typically. --AtteSmythe 19:13, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
- I suppose I should say, too, that uploading content (images, text, other files, etc.) grants others certain rights to your work. You can't expect to write a bunch of articles and then delete them at some later date, for instance - they will be restored by another editor. You should familiarize yourself with YPPedia:Copyrights. --AtteSmythe 19:36, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
- And you had the right idea before, the correct tag to use is {{delete}}. --Guppymomma 19:41, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
