Housing room template dodah

Hey :-) Since you wrote some more complicated formatting stuffs for the housing room table thing, I was wondering if you could tell me, how can one make a grey line divider separate entire new 'rows'. Let me just expand your talk page as a demo.

{{Room table|direction=Right|type=Shack|rooms=5| |room1=Exterior |room2=Lobby |room2_paint= *1 unit of paint for the trim. |room3=Shack |room3_paint= *9 units of paint for the walls. *2 units of paint for the trim. |room4=Lobby |room4_paint= *1 unit of paint for the trim. |room5=Shack |room5_paint= *9 units of paint for the walls. *2 units of paint for the trim. }}

As you can see, when multiple 'proper' rows appear, the new row of titles kinda merge visually with the first. How can I code a grey border/line above the second 'Lobby' 'Shack' title row? Feel free to play with Template:Room table/cells-5. And, sorry I can't explain this any clearer :-) --Sagacious (talk) 11:44, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

I nowiki'd your example because it took away all my header edit links. You have a noeditsection in there? Anyways, I wondered what the heck you were talking about, because they were nice and separated on mine. I used a 2px solid border-bottom on the paint row. Mozilla appears to honor this, where MSIE does not. I think the answer is to put that border-bottom on all the bottom cells, instead of the row specifier. In the case that there is no other row, the border should merge with the bottom border of the table. I'll give it a look in a few. --AtteSmythe 19:29, 16 July 2006 (PDT)
Err, whoops sorry about the noeditsection >.>
When I was admiring fishing through the code, I could see there was code in place to make the bottom row have a border...hence why I got confused. Strange. --Sagacious (talk) 19:32, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

Ye probably have some super master plan, but I was curious as to why you have made 'cells-2' and 'cells-1' :p. My plan was to only make templates based on how many cells I'd need for each housing page - so as not to waste...wiki space? Anyways, just a soft poke out of curiosity. --Sagacious (talk) 14:55, 17 July 2006 (PDT)

Check out the new cells-4 for master-plan spiffiness. ;) --AtteSmythe 14:55, 17 July 2006 (PDT)
My head hurts... I think I see yer idea, but it has booched the grey dividers a bit. Where there is no contents for two cells on the bottom row, I removed the grey line. And, the middle 'row' dividing grey line is missing from column 3 each time, Re:Cabin --Sagacious (talk) 14:59, 17 July 2006 (PDT)
Yeah, it's a bit of a leap, but I think it'll be a little more maintainable. Now, if we want to change the style, we only have to touch -1, -2, and -3, rather than having to find every size for all the buildings. I think I got all the missing borders, but I'll check on IE... --AtteSmythe 15:02, 17 July 2006 (PDT)

I was wondering why that wasn't working!!! Thanks aS! (BTW left a msg for you on my talk page too) --Lizzie 08:59, 21 July 2006 (PDT)

PoEmail link

Was the "form" link to the rewards redeeming page not permitted? I saw that Nemesis had removed some links in that thread, and I sent her a PM asking if there was anything wrong with linking to that page by example, but she never replied. :/ --Emufarmers 19:10, 22 July 2006 (PDT)

Yes, we were asked to remove the links. --Barrister 19:17, 22 July 2006 (PDT)

Halcyon

I was working on fixing all the little bumps that came. I just neededto learn how to do it as I whent along. Is there any way I can get to finnish something like that, without people jumping in, witch takes away the learning prosess? --Kinocha 12:27, 25 July 2006 (PDT)

Ah, I'm sorry about that. I saw that you'd set up the redirect, and presumed (falsely) that you had opted to redirect the name to the current article rather than set up the disambiguation page for the two crews. I completely didn't consider that you'd just moved the page, and the redirect was created automatically. :( Since I happened to be online on Sage at the moment, I just grabbed the crew information myself. We're trying to make a push to encourage editors to not jump in on top of active editors (Guppy jumped in on top of my edit of Halcyon too!), and I'll try to keep that in mind. I should have left a note on the talk page, instead. --AtteSmythe 12:36, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
Ok. I don't know any other way to do it than moving? I found that way on Wikipedia. --Kinocha 12:39, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
No, you did everything right. I made a bad assumption, and should have left the page alone. A move was absolutely appropriate. This event convinces me to change my handling of the Recent Changes page, and I'm going to encourage others to do the same at YPPedia talk:Editors' Code of Conduct. --AtteSmythe 12:42, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
You've got the right idea, Kinocha. Sorry about that. What would have been good is to have put a note in reply to the request for the fix on that talk page saying that you'll do the disambiguation so we have an indication that your moving the article was part of your desire to do the whole thing and not just a lone move of an article. --Guppymomma 12:45, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
I've personally been told (more than once >.>) that I should wait 15 minutes before editing something that someone else has been working on. I generally now follow that rule. --Sagacious (talk) 12:46, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
The problem is that, given the complete absense of the second Halcyon page, an article move would have been an appropriate clarifying action in and of itself. I made edits to the other page and to clear the redirect; I didn't know that the moving editor was going to go back and make the disambig. Anyways, the method I now use to check recent changes will eradicate these edit conflicts in the future. --AtteSmythe 12:54, 25 July 2006 (PDT)

Infobox pirate help

So this morning I finished converting all pages that use any part of the infobox to the new template. As per our discussion last week, I atempted to fix the gaps that result when a pirate hasn't won a familiar, isn't an island designer, or both.

And I failed miserably at it. I took the |- align="center" | and removed it from the main infobox table and placed it into the islands/yes template. That removed the gap for pirates that had familiars, but it inreased the gap for pirates with neither the familiar or designer box. Attempting the same thing with the familiar sub-templates actually broke the template.

Would you be able to take a look at it and see where I went wrong?--Fiddler 10:16, 26 July 2006 (PDT)

It looked like you were struggling with it. :/ I'll be happy to take a look, though I'm about out of wiki-screwing-around time today... --AtteSmythe

Barnstar.png The Ultimate Barnstar
For your past and continuing efforts to fix the boochy layout of Template:Infobox pirate.

I've created a few scrap pages that simulate the effects of the infobox modules as they existed before yesterday's changes: User:Fiddler/Sandbox/Infobox, User:Fiddler/Sandbox/Portrait, User:Fiddler/Sandbox/Familiar, and User:Fiddler/Sandbox/Designer. This way you or I can experiment with layout without totally destroying the existing infobox. I doubt I'll be able to figure out the necessary syntax today and be able to attempt repairs, so feel free to use these in your experimentation.--Fiddler 08:32, 27 July 2006 (PDT)

Aww, thanks! I'll check out those pages, too - it occurred to me that for The Big Conversion™, I should set up a completely mirrored set of templates to edit in a sandbox somewhere. --AtteSmythe 08:36, 27 July 2006 (PDT)

Excellent work. I do have one question/request. Looking at the examples, I see the text run right up to the edge of the various modules. Is there a way to pad the outside of the infobox to prevent this happening? Normally I'd just wrap the whole thing in a table, but I'm sure there's a better solution than that.--Fiddler 11:43, 3 August 2006 (PDT)

I don't know how I missed that! The outer div now has .5ex bottom and left borders. On the bottom, this will be combined with the 3px lower margin from the last element, but we'll just have to see how the wrapping works. Thanks for lettin' me know! --AtteSmythe 12:08, 3 August 2006 (PDT)

'reason not to play' link

I found that link so ridiculous I kept reading, and found this little goodie [1] --> apparently we didn't have a wiki for a long time because you personally opposed it? Interesting :p --Lizzie 00:47, 27 July 2006 (PDT)

Yes! I have such terrible influence that with only one offhand comment, I convinced an entire team of coders and community moderators that wikis are worthless. Go me! Obviously, my mind has changed a bit since then, primarily because I'm not hearing the word 'wiki' as a panacea to all sorts of problems for which one would be a bad fit. Amazing what a couple years can do. --AtteSmythe 08:31, 27 July 2006 (PDT)

aS, I've come to the conclusion that I <3 you, very much. That's absolutely fantastic, all that info will be really helpful. Thanks a billion! --Lizzie 14:04, 28 July 2006 (PDT)

No problem! I enjoy writing that stuff up when I have someone I know wants to learn. Hopefully we'll be able to stash some of that in a tutorial somewhere, too. --AtteSmythe 14:11, 28 July 2006 (PDT)
Oh, please do. Learning is always nice :) --Kinocha 16:48, 28 July 2006 (PDT)

Ocean Table Demo

Would it be possible to integrate your blockade tables with {{ocean table}} (Usage)? --Barrister 15:31, 31 July 2006 (PDT)
Maybe, though it looks like it might take a bit more skill to maintain, and it doesn't balance the column size (I wish you could tell an HTML table to do that without individually setting each column width). Here's what the sample at User talk:Lizzie would look like:
Cobalt Midnight Sage Viridian
{{ocean table|cobalt=yes|midnight=yes|sage=yes|viridian=yes}}
|valign=top|
<!--- Cobalt Blockades --->
* {{blockade|Cobalt|Terra|IV}}
|valign=top|
<!--- Midnight Blockades --->
* {{blockade|Midnight|Turtle |IV }}
|valign=top|
<!--- Sage Blockades --->
* {{blockade|Sage|Kent|I }}
|valign=top|
<!--- Viridian Blockades --->
* {{blockade|Viridian|Olive|I}}
|}

Ocean Table Example

And here's Antix's table:

Cobalt Midnight Sage Viridian

Ocean Table with Backgrounds

And, for the heck of it, the ocean_table with background formatting to break up the large columns:

Party trinkets

I asked Eury to confirm this for me earlier, but I didn't get a chance to update it in the wiki: The proper names are "Pirate Party Blackpool '06" and "Pirate Party Key West '05." I was going to re-upload the Blackpool trinket but I don't want to mess up your templates.--Fiddler 23:59, 4 August 2006 (PDT)

No problem - I'll get 'em now. Swapping the filename out of the single-image trinkets is easy enough. --AtteSmythe 00:01, 5 August 2006 (PDT)

Trinket problem

I went to add my lilies to my pirate's infobox. They're noticeably not centered. I'm not sure how best to fix this. --Barrister 03:03, 5 August 2006 (PDT)

Wrong color, too? Incorrect color parameters will lead to off-center red/red, by default (that is, no offset). Right now, color names need to be lowercase. I couldn't figure it out myself, originally, because I'd used trinketprimary as the parameter instead of 'trinketcolor1'. Perhaps the names need some work... --AtteSmythe 14:09, 5 August 2006 (PDT)
Ah! That fixed it. Lowercase needed for colors. --Barrister 15:10, 5 August 2006 (PDT)

Trinket/Pet templates

While I definitely appreciate the addition of the trinket and pet templates, isn't there a way to make them less "Booty panel"-ish? For example, adding pets or trinkets to an infobox and have them look consistent with the familiar section (since the familiar template still allows color and name specifications). --Rixation(t/c) 10:32, 17 August 2006 (PDT)

The item box needs to be around the trinkets and pets unless someone wants to make the color charts with transparent backgrounds, or upload each combination as a separate file. The former requires indexed colors (256 max), or the transparency won't work under IE6. That's acceptable for an individual trinket, but there are many more than 256 colors on the current tables (especially the 18x18s). That brings us to the second option, which is orders of magnitude more effort than I was willing to expend. Given the constraint of needing the box, I felt the booty panel look followed naturally (especially considering the infobox's location at the right-hand side of the screen). I've considered changing the trinket template to look like a display case does, but I really don't think that that interface is as clean as the booty panel. All that said, I'm not opposed to someone trying to reformat it. I've just gone through that excersize once already, and this is what I came up with. I will say that I'm not enamoured enough with the familiar template or style to simply emulate it, instead. It's sufficient, but not, IMO, the defining infobox_pirate element. --AtteSmythe 10:49, 17 August 2006 (PDT)
Oh! I'd considered making the pet template use their faces from the radial menu instead of the icons, but the screenies to get all the color combinations would've been really difficult to find, and in the case of elephants, pretty useless. --AtteSmythe 10:56, 17 August 2006 (PDT)

Category/article merging

Instead of merging the article into the category proper, how abot transcluding the article into the category? Take a look at what I did to Art:Piratical Guide to Oceanic Life and Category:Oceanic Life.--Fiddler 20:43, 18 August 2006 (PDT)

Maybe that's a better way to go about it. The 3rd-party app article just seems so useless without a list, though, and you can't do the transclusion the other way about. It's still probably a cleaner solution than a redirect, though. --AtteSmythe 20:46, 18 August 2006 (PDT)
Aye, there are probably dozens of categories that would work better if they were organized like this. And it is a real shame that we can't transclude the category into the article; I tried to and was sorely disappointed.--Fiddler 21:05, 18 August 2006 (PDT)

northern lights debacle

thanks for fixing that up, aS.. the talk page for Northern Lights goes a bit funny also. Sorry to be so dumb with it all! But learnt all about disambiguation today so that's good :p --Lizzie 08:43, 21 August 2006 (PDT)

Oh, right, that's probably a leftover talk page from somewhere else. I didn't cross-check it with the move log. Creating disambig pages is certainly a tricky affair, so I'm glad you picked up some of it today! --AtteSmythe 08:48, 21 August 2006 (PDT)

Random Island designer tags

The only island designerswithout pages on the wiki already are listed at Fantasy Island. All the other tags you see are either a)mistakes from copying from another page or B)people who misunderstand the use of the Island Designer tag.--Fiddler 12:36, 24 August 2006 (PDT)

Thanks and a heads up

Thanks for catching that question on my talk page, but, just so you know - I am, in fact, male :)--Angelbeaver (talk) 07:50, 25 August 2006 (PDT)

Sorry. :( I keep being surprised by that! I think it's something in your writing style; I had that impression before I ever saw your pirate. It's a bad habit I've gotten into (guessing gender by writing), and one I need to get out of. Then again, sometimes it's accurate! --AtteSmythe 08:05, 25 August 2006 (PDT)
No sweat :) It's probably partially the name too, I get it a lot. --Angelbeaver (talk) 16:51, 25 August 2006 (PDT)

Extra rat color

The pet template is missing a color for the rat, as noted on Image talk:Pets-Rat colors.png. --Thunderbird 11:16, 3 September 2006 (PDT)

Thanks - I hadn't gotten to my watch list yet today. All done! --AtteSmythe 11:53, 3 September 2006 (PDT)

Confusion

I am trying to make a user page for Rebeviper, not one of the ocean ones. There is no account by this name, because it is under a different name, which is not a pirate and I figured my pirate name was more appropriate. So that being said, this is a user page, not a famous pirate, so if you could put it where it should be, it would be great. -- User:Evilbob71

Well, there's no vanity policy any more, so you don't have to be famed to have a pirate page. The information on Rebeviper is perfectly suitable to a pirate page, really! That said, if you'd rather have it as your user page, I'll move it there. --AtteSmythe 09:38, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

Thanks, I will leave it where it is then. Thanks for your help. -- User:Evilbob71

If you're happy with that, it's no problem, matey. One thing, though: When commenting, if you could sign your messages with --~~~~, it'd make the conversation easier. ;) If you need anything else, just drop a note. --AtteSmythe 09:40, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

Help with div?

In bringing over the show/hide functionality from Wikipedia, I've run across a problem that I think you've encountered before. User:Fiddler/sandbox is a direct port of the template at Wikipedia:Template:Snake_families. Transcluded are {{hidden start}} (Usage) and {{Hidden end}} (Usage), also copied over from Wikipedia:Template Hidden begin and Wikipedia:Template Hidden end.

Looking at the page source for my sandbox, it appears that closing tags are being automatically added to the end of the Hidden start section. If you have any advice or can think of a solution that would be a wonderful thing. Thanks in advance.--Fiddler 09:27, 14 September 2006 (PDT)

I'll give it a shot, though Wikipedia's style sheets just defeated me. They have that same stupid problem with the edit tags dropping to the bottom of the article that we have, but their image styles are so heavy that I can't do anything about it. Ahem, yes, your sandbox...--AtteSmythe 10:45, 14 September 2006 (PDT)

Crew Infobox Founded Date update

Ahoy! I saw you incorporated the founding date into the crew info box. First off thank you. :D I am pleased this went in based on my suggestion. I will be taking the task on myself of updating the founded date for crew pages across the wiki. Since I have informally adopted crew pages as my wiki 'niche' I would like to know that as I update this bit of information should I remove the line that appears on the majority pages that reads: '-Insert Crew Name- is a crew on the -Some Ocean- that was found on -insert date-.'? All this information will now appear in the info box. Or perhaps should I move it to a history section created such section as a stub for pages without this section?

Now if I can talk you into adding a Merged into field for crews who have pages but have merged into another crew. O.O. Again thanks for the infobox update.--Kgarrett1969 10:32, 25 September 2006 (PDT)

Aye, shouldn't be too bad. I'm getting a little rusty, or today's update should've been smoother. I'm going to put a spot of discussion on {{infobox crew(defunct)}} (Usage) first, though... --AtteSmythe 10:44, 25 September 2006 (PDT)
