Talk:Island Design Guide
Is this here for the Tutorial contest, or are we allowed to edit it? See a few formatting/stylistic things I'm ever-so-tempted to jump in and work out ;) --Ponytailguy 18:56, 12 March 2006 (PST)
- Argh, the passive voice usage! Make it stop! :P (I would assume this is just a general tutorial, since it isn't marked as being for the contest.) --Emufarmers 18:59, 12 March 2006 (PST)
- Contest entry as far as I know, I think he just forgot to mark it. Please leave it alone until after the contest finishes. --Guppymomma 19:00, 12 March 2006 (PST)
- This is not a contest entry, this is the real thing. Please do not mess with it yet, as it is about 5% complete, and I'm going to get really confused while I flesh this out if people are messing around with it. That's why it's currently linked from where people won't easily stumble across it. When it's done, I'll link it from somewhere else, and you can have at it. --Emerson 09:30, 14 March 2006 (PST)

I've been designing a few islands as a bit of fun. They're not finished. I was just wondering if there were any Design an Island competitions open at the moment? --Sagacious 14:30, 14 March 2006 (PST)
- Island Design competitions are usually run alongside plans to open new oceans. Given that Sage, Viridian and Cobalt are all at less than 1/3rd of capacity (estimate, but compared to Midnight...), that probably won't happen for awhile. --Ponytailguy 14:38, 14 March 2006 (PST)
- Actually, the Beat the Champs Island Thread is where people are able to post their works for critique and consideration to be added to the island design team. There is actually a little bit of turnover in the team as people retire from the game, so once in a while, new people are added that aren't necessarily winners of an official contest. And we do have, um, upcoming projects where we might be able to use good designers. So get those islands finished and posted! --Emerson 13:43, 15 March 2006 (PST)

Small nitpick
In the building table, under Outpost it says the 1 is usually a bazaar. This is a tad off, because bazaars cannot be built on outpost islands. --Thunderbird 23:41, 2 April 2006 (PDT)
Major Edit tag
I added that instead of the message asking for no one to edit it , sorry for editing it but all i did was add {{inuse}} ;). --32083 23:49, 2 April 2006 (PDT)
- This tag has been up for more than two months now. The major edit tag is for big pieces of work that are likely to happen in a day or two. I'm gonna take the tag down, but if it still applies feel free to revert my edit. --Diamondblade 03:35, 23 June 2007 (PDT)
Adding my stuff
As you requested Emerson, I added the stuff I have for the island design guide so far. I'm not finished yet and I didn't bother to put work into a fancy layout, as you said you'd prefer to do that yourself. Sseth 17:48, 17 April 2006 (PDT)
I was thinking a page just describing the interesting fact that OOO allows for volunteer player island designers to be part of the team. A little blurb about how they get chosen with links to the relevant island design threads. Just seems like an interesting part of the game infrastructure that folks might be curious about. I know there's already a category with the names, but this would be more generally descriptive for people who don't know. It could make a good featured article for the main page if it were long enough. --Guppymomma 07:39, 21 April 2006 (PDT)
article name
I'd like to rename this article from "Island Design Guide" to "Island design guide". Objections? --Barrister 18:26, 27 April 2006 (PDT)
- Bump. I didn't hear any objections, but I also don't know if this page is linked from the forums. Anyone? --Barrister 21:44, 31 July 2006 (PDT)
- If in doubt, you could always leave the redirect behind. --AtteSmythe 21:45, 31 July 2006 (PDT)
Template usage notice
The template appears borked, the usage notes are showing up on the article page. --Featherfin 08:51, 22 May 2006 (PDT)

- Cool, thanks. :) --Featherfin 09:31, 22 May 2006 (PDT)
It says that Im forbidden to access the download..
- Check out the links on the Yohoho Tools page. It provides all the links you need. -- Cedarwings (talk) 03:02, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Rearranging and stuff
Not sure what other changes you're planning, Emerson, but I remember thinking a while back that perhaps the rendering section should just be moved to be right above the flicker section (or flicker to below rendering, or whatever other combination of having the two together), especially since that's the only thing in the whole Tips & Techniques section anyhow. Though having it near, if not before, anything discussing objects wouldn't be a bad idea either, which would probably mean a complete overhaul of the order of the whole bottom half of the page... Don't want to go stepping on toes if you already had something in mind and just haven't had time to deal with it, but there're a couple thoughts for you. -Birchle 11:05, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I had some time. Here's a possible new order for the page. I haven't looked too closely (this time around) at what's in each section currently, so they may need to be rephrased a bit to lead into each other if they get rearranged (I wouldn't mind helping with that, but again, curious what your plans are before I go messing with it all.), but header-wise, organizing it like this seems to make a bit more sense. It does, however, add quite a few more sub-sub-sub sections, which isn't as great, but I haven't quite figured out how that can be avoided yet. -Birchle 13:40, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
