Discussion

Thanks to Yaten for providing the framework for this. I have no idea if it will work or not; I leave it to the wiki gnomes to fiddle with it. --Feegle 16:37, 22 August 2005 (PDT)

There are small problems in the way it works, but I have no idea how to fix them. So I do leave them to the gnomes. I used it in the Compass Rose entry, if you would like to see the problems. --Feegle 16:48, 22 August 2005 (PDT)

Fixed usage instructions to indicate proper usage. Organization field must be included, even if it's blank. --AtteSmythe 10:11, 26 August 2005 (PDT)

organization parameter

Is there a point to this one? Are we preserving the last known organization of the flag or something? Just curious. --Thunderbird 12:23, 10 November 2005 (PST)

As a record of what the flag was and stood for, I like it. We know that Athens was a Republic, after all. (Or so the schools say. It's more complex, yadda yadda. It's an example, dag nubbit! ;)) --AtteSmythe 15:13, 10 November 2005 (PST)

Defunct Crews?

I've been getting my feet wet with the wiki and have been trying to work on the pages requiring clean up. I was just looking at the page for A Brig Too Far and thought I would put it into the crew template. However after some research I discovered the crew is defunct. Not knowing anything about the crew I can't really add much to the crew template. What is the policy with defunt crew pages such as this one? Delete? Put into the template with what information is available? Jezabella 03:16, 13 February 2006 (PST)

Thanks for helping out. Go ahead and use the infobox and add what you can. Turn the rest into text for the article. There may not be a lot to say, but, in this case, there seems to be enough to make an article. --Barrister 11:24, 13 February 2006 (PST)

Parameters

Any idea why this template still relies on a defunctdate parameter rather than using the month/day/year parameters? --Thunderbird 19:01, 14 March 2006 (PST)

No clue, and it would be a good thing to fix if you've got some time. I'm still catching up on my edit backlog right now, or I'd do it. --Barrister 01:03, 15 March 2006 (PST)
Template updated, and I think I got all of the flags that are using it (went straight off the "what links here" list). For flags without exact dates, I used various forms of conjecture, mostly because the text reads "defunct as of" in there. --Thunderbird 21:34, 19 March 2006 (PST)
For some reason some of the flags don't show up in "what links here" - Attysmythe used the same thing when he changed the templates, and there were lots of leftovers when he did it too. Very odd.. That's what started my initial sweep of the crew pages - fixing infoboxes. :) --Zava 22:18, 19 March 2006 (PST)
I was wondering why not all of the crew/flag infoboxes had been updated to the new template. Guess I know now :P. --Thunderbird 22:19, 19 March 2006 (PST)

Display

I noticed that when this template displays it simply says "Defunct as of <date>" as opposed to "Dormant or disbanded as of <date>", which is what the defunct crew is labelled as. I prefer the second one myself. I unfortunately don't know how to mess with templates. Is there a possibility of getting this changed? --Fannon 21:33, 18 April 2006 (PDT)

Ocean name

I just noticed that the ocean name disappears when switching a flag to defunct. I'm not good at guessing the ocean from the color of the bar, so I would prefer it written out in the infobox. --Alfwyn 08:58, 12 February 2008 (PST)

Update to include still-existing flags, but without monarch/royalty?

I have been working on updating flags as of late but while doing that, I have noticed some flags still exists but are basically dead without any Royals or a Monarch to do anything FOR the flag... Maybe update the template so reason=dead or something? Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 15:45, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

The reason parameter can be set to anything you want. Though I'm not sure "dead" is the best word anyway. Maybe "abandoned"? --Budclare2 21:36, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
That falls into the "or something" category. Lol. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 23:28, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Anyway, really? Oops. Never tried it, so I didn't know. Thanks! Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 23:30, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Dormant makes the most sense to use. --Sagacious (talk) 08:49, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
Even if the flag has no monarch or royal to make any decisions? That the flag can no longer do Cades as a result? Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 11:24, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, it makes sense to distinguish between flags that might come back and flags that can't (barring some kind of OM intervention, which I'm not sure they do). --Budclare2 00:01, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
