Talk:Trinket
I'm going to be merging all the trinket articles into this one, as it sounds as though they don't merit their own page each. It could take a few minutes. – Yaten talk 20:54, 20 October 2005 (PDT)
Guppy uploaded a nice trinket inspection image, but I'm not sure where to put it. Any ideas where it could go? – Yaten talk 22:08, 20 October 2005 (PDT)

Redirects for individual trinkets
I'm thinking it might be handy to have redirects for individual trinket names to here. I looked at the tournament board on Viridian a bit ago, saw a clam shell was the prize, and briefly went "what the heck is that?" and was about to search for Clam Shell, when it occurred to me to check the trinket page. --Thunderbird 21:02, 29 October 2005 (PDT)
- It's certainly not a bad idea. Though, to be consistent, we might need redirects for all the furniture and clothing, too. =) – Yaten talk 21:10, 29 October 2005 (PDT)
- If you do create the redirects, use {{R with possibilities}} --Barrister 21:24, 29 October 2005 (PDT)
Broken images?
Anyone know why all the trinket images don't work? Or is it cause no images have been uploaded yet?
- Images aren't on all the webservers, but at least one has them. Don't go re-uploading the images, they're all in the wiki database (you'd see red links if an image was missing). --Thunderbird 12:05, 9 November 2005 (PST)
Zombie Trinkets
Does anyone think that the zombie trinkets should get their images placed here, even if it's just one per trinket type (Golden Brain, Silver Heart, ect.)?--Zyborg22 18:25, 9 November 2005 (PST)
- Probably, yes. I grabbed all the game images before the Halloween release went poof. – Yaten talk 19:08, 9 November 2005 (PST)
- Yep, they should be here. In a section for special event trinkets perhaps. --Guppymomma 19:26, 9 November 2005 (PST)
Gemstone Ring
Viridian, and possibly the other oceans, has been running a tournament called "Love at first drop," and one of the prizes in the pool was a "gemstone ring." I could be wrong on the name, but I'm pretty sure it's not on the Trinket page. It's in the middle of 4.png at Puzzle Pirates\rsrc\bundles\media\yohoho-general\media\yohoho\icons\items\trinkets but I didn't want to add it myself in case there was something I was missing. Darkaardvark 16:47, 29 November 2005 (PST)
- Thanks, it's added now. Give a holler if the name is wrong. --Guppymomma 20:17, 29 November 2005 (PST)
- I can now confirm 100% certain that the name is correct. Thanks for adding it. :) --Darkaardvark 14:28, 30 November 2005 (PST)
Text on trinkets
Has anybody collated a list of trinkets that can be inscribed to add to the info here?
- Nope, feel free to start compiling info :) All we know is what Eury's put in about trinkets & text. --Guppymomma 07:59, 10 December 2005 (PST)
- The main issue is probably how to display the info. My thought would be to add inscribable and player inscribable to the appropriate trinkets (such as I just did for the fruitcake). Thoughts? --Thunderbird 19:12, 10 December 2005 (PST)
- That looks fine to me. :) Never sure if I should edit or wait for more opinions.. At any rate, add Bands and Lilies (and probably the Lily too, but I'm not completely certain about that one) to the player inscribable list. --Zava 23:01, 10 December 2005 (PST)
- Might it get a bit messy with adding text? Perhaps just a * for the inscribable ones with an info note down the bottom?
- That looks fine to me. :) Never sure if I should edit or wait for more opinions.. At any rate, add Bands and Lilies (and probably the Lily too, but I'm not completely certain about that one) to the player inscribable list. --Zava 23:01, 10 December 2005 (PST)

I'm sorry. I have no idea how on earth I booched something so simple. --Piplicus 07:19, 2 January 2006 (PST)
Inscriptions
Does anyone know which trinkets are and aren't inscribeable? Would a list of such benefit the article? (Wondering if it's worth compiling) --Teeg 19:07, 19 January 2006 (PST)
- I think winter decorations and fruitcakes can be inscribed by players, and the rest of the trinkets can only be inscribed if previously inscribed on by an OM (and only once). --Yaten talk 20:41, 19 January 2006 (PST)
- Err, yeah, that's not very clear. Reading this might help instead: http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=523162#523162 --Yaten talk 20:42, 19 January 2006 (PST)
- The Palace Shoppe on Ice claims that the two rings in it can be inscribed, one would assume by the players themselves. Don't have the poe to buy one right now though. --Thunderbird 21:06, 19 January 2006 (PST)
- Yeah, but looking at the link it seems to suggest that only winter trinkets can be inscribed by anyone other than OMs... so unless I'm magical, the daisies I won off Luckysun should be uninscribable from my end, but I was able to. Makes me think and question and all that other fun stuff that causes massive screaming and groans from parley and game design. Guess I'll post something up in TTQA --Teeg 21:11, 19 January 2006 (PST)
- Problem solved. When an OM creates a trinket, they get the same inscribe prompt and input box that players do. How do I know this? I asked. It appears that auto-inscribe only happens from automated tournies and skellie fights. Coal and Parrot feather have no space for a note, and the fruitcake can be inscribed multiple times.--Fiddler 21:30, 19 January 2006 (PST)
- Not really :) I know for a fact that Shells are uninscribeable on a player's end as well, which makes me wonder. (I'd also assume that things like the OM dollies can't be inscribed by players, and so on.) --Teeg 09:31, 20 January 2006 (PST)
- I won a handkerchief in an automated Grog Guzzling tourney. It cannot be inscribed. --Barrister 11:44, 20 January 2006 (PST)
- If it can be inscribed, it can be inscribed by a player if an OM or the automatic tourney or the skellies didn't do it first.--Fiddler 11:59, 20 January 2006 (PST)
From Eury:
Inscribable:
- All flowers
- All dolls
- All ribbons
- All rings
- Parrot painting prize
- Winter Ornaments
- Fruitcake (re-inscribable)
- Skulls (but as they're only won from skellis, they're all auto-inscribed)
Uninscribable:
- Coal
- Handkerchief
- Parrot feather
Unknown:
- Bone
- Clam Shell
- Conch Shell
- Knobby Coral
- Mirror
- Nautilus Shell
- Sand Dollar
- Spiky Coral
- Starfish
--Fiddler 11:59, 20 January 2006 (PST)
- Methinks I'll move this to my sandbox so I don't keep cluttering this page up. Thanks for yer help :) --Teeg 14:03, 20 January 2006 (PST)
All finished. inscribability is noted on the main page with the odd exceptions also noted.--Fiddler 12:21, 1 February 2006 (PST)
Valentine trinkets
Three new trinkets are on Ice: Teddy Bear (10k), Valentine Card (1k), and Valentine Card (5k). All are inscribable. --Barrister 04:11, 1 February 2006 (PST)
Winter is a wonderful time
I hate to nitpick, but the "winter ornaments" were released during the Southern Hemisphere's summer. I can't seem to find a good way to describe their situation, though. --Barrister 12:28, 1 February 2006 (PST)
- It was "winter" in game though with the snow. --Guppymomma 12:51, 1 February 2006 (PST)
- Touchè! --Barrister 13:11, 1 February 2006 (PST)
Lump of Coal?
Coulda sworn that the coal was a Christmas/Winter trinket. --Teeg 04:58, 16 February 2006 (PST)
- Nope! It's just a regular trinket. --Eurydice 08:30, 16 February 2006 (PST)
Reorganization?
So with Fight Club, four or five new brigand kings, and the usual trickle of new trinkets this page is about to get very long. I think it's time we started planning a re-organization.
My initial thought is that the sub-headings under "Limited Edition Trinkets" could be reduced in vertical size. Either A) we right-align all the tables so that the text is to their left (as I've currently done) or B) we spread the tables out horizontally to match the regular trinkets up above.
I'm mainly looking at the Halloween trinkets, as that information is repeated on the Zombie Apocalypse page. Perhaps turning those into a horizontal table and slightly expanding the information avaialble on the event page? This approach could work well for the Fight Club event as well.
It appears that the brigand king trinkets may be colorable, so either we can put the bulk of the information in the brigand king article or we can create a seperate page for each, as most of the colorable trinkets have.
Any further thoughts on keeping this page managable?--Fiddler 12:36, 1 April 2006 (PST)
New formatting?
Hopefully this is the correct way to say this. I recently reloaded the trinket page to find that most of the trinket images are now right formatted on the page. With my large widescreen monitor this is highly annoying. The graphics are no longer underneath the text description, and I must shift my sight right-left-right-left as I go down the page. It was much better left justified. 2cents. --Kraggard 3:12, 3 Apriil 2006 (PST)
Which can be put in Display Cases
It does not appear to me that the sea battle ranking trophies can be put in display cases, leastwise, I can't seem to get mine into my display case. Can someone else confirm that for me? I suspect, given the situation with the halloween contest ones that the fight club ones won't either. Obviously at very least we can wait a couple of hours on that one. But it seems likely that we're going to need to change the portion about which trinkets can and cannot be put in display cases. --KeithIrwin 20:09, 3 April 2006 (PDT)
- If it's untradable, it can't be placed in a display case (the skulls used to be like that). The Zombie Apocalypse trinkets, the Fight Club trinkets, the SB trinkets, and I believe the Brigand King trinkets all fall into this category. --Thunderbird 20:33, 3 April 2006 (PDT)
- I believe what Thunderbird said is the case (sorry). However, according to The List, having untradable trinkets be "caseable" is something in the works (see here)... --Emufarmers 20:41, 3 April 2006 (PDT)
Brigand King Trinkets
Gretchen Goldfang will give an Ivory Toothpick. Also, BK trinkets work like skulls in that they are tradeable, but only the winner can use it in a portrait. --Fannon 21:16, 10 April 2006 (PDT)
- Shodan won against Gretchen, but didnt get the promised Wooden Amulet. Screenshot. Digging through the media files, looks like it might be third from the left in 11.png? --Zava 12:42, 12 April 2006 (PDT)
- I am probably going to try and re-do the brigand king trinket table. Complexicated and such. I think each king should have a column, with the trinkets+labels below each. --Sagacious (talk) 11:58, 24 May 2006 (PDT)
- I agree it needs to be reformatted. At 5 trinkets per, I suggest rows for each king, rather than columns. Example:

The "30px" is making all the trinkets blurry. These are small pictures to begin with. I'd rather see them full-size. --Barrister 16:44, 24 May 2006 (PDT)
- This way, when we have all the trinkets, they all fit nicely in the table. For now, it's ok to drop the 30px. --Sagacious (talk) 18:26, 24 May 2006 (PDT)
- Can someone grab the recently uploaded BK trinkets and add them to this page? Thanks! --Barrister 01:11, 15 August 2006 (PDT)
- I think I have now also added them all to the trinket templates, as well. I've also standardized the ones for which we have no colors, so if anyone gets a screenie of a properly-colored brigand king trinket, they can just edit the image without having to touch the nasty templates. --AtteSmythe 10:01, 15 August 2006 (PDT)

Individual Images
We have individual images for each of the familiars. Is there value in having the same for all the trinkets? It'd be kind of nice to display the images of the various trinkets on the pirate pages. For example, I have an aqua starfish. I know this would be a ton of small images, however, especially for two-color trinkets like handkerchiefs. --Barrister 23:14, 29 May 2006 (PDT)
- It'd be a nice way to spruce up pirate pages; it could be a bit of work to set up, but I'm sure someone's willing to do it. :) I don't see any particular problem with having a lot of little images, as long as we got them all tagged properly...Unless they would eat up an inordinate amount of server space. Would they? Beyond that, do you think any trinkets the pirate owns should be displayable, or should only ones he or she won be permissable? (I suppose that would be unfeasable anyway, since we can't really tell whether someone won a starfish, or bought it off somebody else, though in auto-inscribed trinkets it might be easier). Either way, we probably don't need to upload all 324 iterations of the parrot paintings award. :P (Actually, on a fairly tangental note, it looks like a fancy display of all the colors for that is missing on its page.) More seriously, would we be uploding individual images for all 648 winter ornament designs, or would this only be for non-purchasable (from the palace shoppe) trinkets? Anyway, I like the idea. --Emufarmers 21:39, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
- Some people have, quite literally, dozens of trinkets. I know someone who owns no fewer than 24 fruitcakes. We'd need a means of controlling how many you can include. --Ponytailguy 21:42, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
- It's a cute idea. Doing the familiar images was a bear. I'd suggest using a naming & image tagging convention similar to what was done with familiar images. Trinkets are pretty small images, I don't think that even 24 fruitcakes would be such a big deal (don't those come in only one color?). --Guppymomma 21:45, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
- Fruitcakes only have one colour, yes, but unless we have limits in place, he'd be allowed to have all 24 on her page, which, even at three to a row, is quite a lot of rows. --Ponytailguy 21:47, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
- Allow a graceful way to show the image and add x24 (or whatever number) underneath? --Zava 21:50, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

- You can fit at least 18 in a row with the inventory box around it. More without that box. Zava's idea sounds good. Any wordy bits about where things were won or whatever could be done in text. --Guppymomma 21:52, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
- A few more thoughts: I was definitely thinking about limiting this to trinkets the player had won. That eliminates all the cards, rings, and the bear. And, yeah, a player who won 24 fruitcakes would just put "x24". Let me think on this a bit more, but it does seem the general reaction is positive. --Barrister 21:55, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

- Uh, another technical snag: How does one verify that someone has a particular trinket? Unlike portraits, you can't just look on the webpage, or even /who the person: You have to meet him or her in person. We'd want to consider how we verify this, something which could be even further complicated by the easy "tradibility" of trinkets. This isn't necessarily enough of a problem to sink the whole idea, but we'll need to have a way of addressing it. The same is even more true if you're talking about it only being things you actually won (unless it's just defined as "winnable trinkets" rather than allowing only ones that particular person won). This idea sounds more neat the more I think about it, but it's also looking like it could be filled with pitfalls. We'd best tread carefully. --Emufarmers 22:24, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
- We're talking about trinkets that the pirate won, like Barrister says? Not ones that were purchased/given/traded for a firstborn child. That way even if they do trade it away later, it can still be listed (like familiars). No real way to verify it, you're right. People do seem fairly trustworthy though - there's no easy to way to verify a familiar win either if nobody who cares about the wiki was paying attention to the tournament. Asking "Hey, who won ____?" gets me a LOT of blank looks *grin*. In the end, we may have to grit our teeth and just trust that guy that says he won Some Neat Thing, even though he's behaving like a bratty 10 year old. (Some of those kids are damn fast, btw. I know a 10 year old who won an octopus.) Trying to verify everyone's trinkets isn't a job I want, that's for sure. :D --Zava 03:49, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
- Pretty much what Zava said is what I think. We also can't officially verify if someone was formerly the captain of a crew or monarch of a flag, but still allow for that claim to fame without being extremely stringent. As long as the article's well written according to the new standards, I really don't feel like we need to verify all the trinkets for normal pages. --Guppymomma 06:00, 31 May 2006 (PDT)

Individual trinket pages
Is there any point to having a special page for trinkets that can't be recoloured? If there's a table showing the range of colours then, yes, I can see a purpose. (Or if it was awarded for some special reason, etc.) But if it just says "This is a trinket. Here is a picture of it. Isn't that swell?"... well, it'll never be more than a two-line stub, will it? :-/ --Ponytailguy 12:36, 5 July 2006 (PDT)
Bold text in inscriptions
Is this an OM-only thing, or is there a way for players to make an inscription bold in places? --Thunderbird 18:45, 8 July 2006 (PDT)

Redoing trinket images
All inventory icon images are 36x39 (at least, those items that can be equipped - I've not checked potions). I'm recutting the pngs in the trinkets directory, but I wouldn't mind some help in the form of a program that'll automatically chop images into specified sizes. I've got through 3.png done, but not uploaded. --AtteSmythe 00:25, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
- Have you checked them in IE6 to make sure there aren't transparency issues? (I'd check, but YPPedia is blocked from work and I have to roundabout lynx to get here sans pics.) If there are, don't upload any more. I can convert 'em to work in IE6 if you give them to me. --Guppymomma 10:23, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
- Yes - I've taken to editting with two browsers open, alas. I've been saving them in GIMP with the 'save transparent color information' deselected, which seems to work. I certainly wanted to make sure that you wouldn't have to come through and reconvert them all. ;) Speaking of this, saving all the recolored combinations of trinkets is probably too many files, aye? heh. --AtteSmythe 12:13, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
- Ha! You're just as deluded and insane as the rest of us. So far we haven't individually done the different trinket colors because we haven't thought of a specific use for them that would be worth the effort. Yaten & I did all the familiar ones, splitting the parrot pile between the two of us. If you think it would be something that folks would be interested in putting on their pages & upkeeping, I'd say go for it one chunk at a time. Glad to hear the transparency thingee is good, just wanted to make sure your suffering was minimal :) --Guppymomma 13:16, 3 August 2006 (PDT)

Valentines Trinkets
I've added the new Valentines trinkets but then realized there is a lot more work needed for those that can be coloured. I'm not sure if what I did should just be reverted or whether this can be used as a starting point for getting the trinkets fixed. --Cedarwings 00:34, 15 February 2007 (PST)
New Trinkets (Cake, cookies, etc...)
I noticed that the trinkets are displayed on the page, but the linking to the image file for pages does not work yet! --Tabzsheff 15:42 03 April 2007 (PST)
- Someone will have to go through all the color combinations and make the tables for that, so that it can also be added to the My Trinkets template. Any idea who did it before? --Arminius 16:28, 3 April 2007 (PDT)
- Not a clue, if I was provided with the infomation and details on whats required etc.. I would love to have a try at adding these new trinket color combinations! --Tabzsheff 17:39 03 April 2007 (PDT)
- Ha, That looks extremely complicated, not sure if i have the know how or ability to produce that sort of quality. Mabey if I tried (to start) with trinkets that don't have hundreds of combinations. :D --Tabzsheff 17:58, 3 April 2007 (PDT)
Okay, I am swamped with rl work, but if someone can make a list of the new trinkets that require color tables along with whether it's a single color trinket or a two color trinket (and if you happen to know the list of colors or if it's the standard set) that would be helpful. I'll then see if I can convince Eury the wikiOM to show me what they look like for screenshotting purposes. Then either I'll find a bit of time to make the color image or give you instructions on how to do it. After that we'll see about the template coding. --Guppymomma 06:51, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
- Just copied the new trinkets I added to the table. I'll work out the details on medals and pins as well today and post it next. Could someone not broke check if pies and cakes can be inscribed? (My guess is yes) --Arminius 08:43, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
