Housing

Avast! After a long day of pillaging on the high seas, a pirate just wants a place to hang his swag, drop his boots, and relax in the style of his ill gotten riches. What better place than his very own house? Puzzle Pirates currently offers 10 different types of housing to own from the humblest shack to the grandest estate and everything in between. Houses can be furnished, decorated, painted, and personalized to fit any personality and preference.

Housing bazaars are built by the governing body of the island and individual houses may be purchased from the bazaar's front room. Once purchased, a house is owned until it is returned by the owner and a pirate may own as many houses on as many different islands as he likes. There is no rent or upkeep cost and no dormant time limit for it to exist. A house is a great place to invite your hearties over for a game of poker or a round of drinks and spend the evenings whiling away the hours sharing stories with your crew.

A townhouse is a type of housing that pirates can purchase. With 7 rooms, the townhouse is a middle sized house compared to the full housing selection offered. Townhouses may be occupied by up to 4 pirates; the owner and 3 roommates. The townhouse rooms, except for the basement, may be painted and decorated just like in other houses and have a rather large amount of free floor space compared to some other houses.

During the original housing release, the townhouse was called a "house". This name was changed to "row house" with release 2005-08-12 and then finally changed to the current "townhouse" with release 2005-08-18. A townhouse costs 40,000 PoE and 40 doubloons on green oceans.

How to...

... Paint a house

To use a paint brush, you must be the owner or roommate of a house you wish to paint. The paint brush can be found under the "Miscellaneous" section of the Booty panel. Clicking on the paint brush and selecting "Paint" will bring up a window allowing you to preview your building painted with any of the color combinations possible. To finish painting, choose the "Paint" option on the preview window.

Note that housing does not currently have a hold, therefore you will not be able to order paint directly from a stall or shoppe and transfer it in later. Do not pre-order paint from an apothecary. You will be given the option to buy the necessary amount from the dockside at the lowest prices available on the island. If there is not enough paint available dockside the "Paint" button will be greyed out. The button will also be greyed out if the color selected is the current color.

Did You Know?

When housing was introduced with release 2005-08-10, it became one of the first truly customizable aspects of a pirate's life. Prior to this, there were limited ways to express one's self outside of painting the walls of a shoppe or a ship. The only other game element that involved placing and changing items was governorship of an island; a high profile post reserved for a select few.

The release of housing and furniture changed all this allowing for the first time full customization of a pirate's living quarters in the form of house choice, paint, furniture, and decorations. In addition to this, furniture also opened up a new merchanting enterprise and put more uses into the classic commodities.
