A design is required to create certain special items. Designs can be obtained from a trading post (using a combination of PoE and trinkets), from a black box (purchased at a black market), or from a gold box (purchased from a gold safe, but only at specific times).
When purchasing an item which requires a design, a prompt will appear for the appropriate design. The order cannot be placed until the design has been provided. Once the order has been placed, the design will be removed from the inventory. It is possible to recover a design by cancelling an order, but once work has begun on the order, the design will be consumed.
