"extra" categories

Welcome to YPPedia ! Thank you for taking the time to clean up some pages. The "extra" categories you wondered about are there, to influence where the article will sort in the category page. Articles beginning with "The" or "A" should sort disregarding this prefix. This is done by using an explicit entry for the category and a paramter giving the value for sorting purposes after a pipe. I personally prefer the syntax {{DEFFAULTSORT:sortkey}} since it applies to all categories and doesn't need a manual update when the crew/flag becomes defunct and the category changes. Sorry for this lengthy technical stuff, but I guess it's hard to guess just by looking at it. Keep editing and Fair Winds ! --Alfwyn 21:58, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I find 1-liners superior aswell. (Note to self, understand code before touching it) -- Kamuflaro 22:07, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, didn't mean to be so brusque.

Apologies, I did not mean to come across so blunt. I try to keep my pages up to date as best I can and like to add things in about history and such so that it isn't formed from guesswork as sometimes happens. I openly welcome help and edits, I often forget to check about disambiguation, such as the crew Sheep on my flag page that Faulkston changed, just like to keep other things up to date myself. People helping to clear up the YPPedia are always gratefully received! I only wish I had more time to do it myself, shame that university gets in the way! Fair winds! --Davsbrander 17:20, 1 Febuary 2009 (GMT)

Apology accepted. Now that that is done what exactly disturbed you so much with my edits? That I changed stuff that had no to not much impact to the page? Don't want to step on your toes really, but the page is marked as a stub afterall, encouraging everyone to edit. -- Kamuflaro 17:34, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
I dunno, there was a few things, GS page: removing some links that I considered to be worth while, some I agreed with but it was easier to undo everything and go back to do what I wanted. With the flag page, the stub is there as when I got the formatting from a different flag it just stayed lol. But things like the small public statement I don't feel worth listing as it can change daily if I feel that way inclined! Also I had intended to sort the history and blockade info about SVL today, really wasn't in the mood to do it all after the blockade last night lol... Things about the reason for blockade/transfer are often best coming from those in the know, it depends on how active those involved are on the YPPedia I guess.
As I said, I apologise for being brusque, and hope that things can still work out well :) -- Davsbrander 01:22, 2 Febuary 2009 (GMT)
Yeah, I've stopped removing repeat links from the info box mostly - my bad. I've made the island links direct. Should have removed the flag forums, the | at the beginning looked to me as if it was a dead remains and not being there intentionally. The rank titles looked like nouns to me not names, thus decapitalized. On Gone Shootin' I removed the link from the statement - wiki autolinks... and statements should be copied and pasted. And regarding the history I think I was pretty close, but I guess that's a moot point now. I'm used to flag statements not changing often, (less often than changes regarding the infobox) but that is just a personal observation. -- Kamuflaro 07:08, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Is it possible to center the "crew housing" box I put at the bottom of the Domination or Damnation crew page? Thanks mate. Fair winds. Lowstandrd (also, how do i add a time stamp?)

Looks like Belthazar451 did all the tricky stuff already :) You can add the signature with ~~~~ -- Kamuflaro 01:15, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Nice one on fixing his page, its looking much better to me and I am (unfortunately) using IE. --Lizzie 21:20, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure what the praxis is here, having "overlapping" elements with less code or having them inside another table to move down if they don't fit. Edits are all in good faith so you're welcome :P --Kamuflaro 01:01, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Why wouldn't it be ok to update my pirate page to state that I don't play Puzzle Pirates? I quit several months ago. --Mhje 15:08, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

It is ok to update your pirate page, but it already stated, that you have quit playing that pirate. My main concern is that you made up some kind of story, copied from Monkey Islands for your pirate, which has quit already. If you want to spice up a pirate biography (i.e. by making up a story) you should do it with a character of yours, which you are still playing. Also if you want to emphasis that you were on duty as a greeter a lot, why not write that or give the page some extra info rather than putting it on top. --Kamuflaro 18:10, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

So editing is only allowed for active pirates, gotcha. That's why I want my page removed, because I don't care about the game anymore, and paying for it was a big mistake, as the puzzles of the game have been taken from arcade games that have been free on the internet for years. I don't want any of my, or my characters' information to be kept in game nor yppedia, which is the reason I removed all portraits, displayed hearties and trophy captions. --Mhje 21:19, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

My my... I didn't say editing pirates who quit isn't allowed. I think your edits are just inapropriate for a pirate who has quit.
If you do not care anymore just leave the articles with us, we have good use for them.
I oppose the deletion of the articles you created, afterall those pirates have been there for years. What you want or not does not have any more weight than what any other member of the community wants in regards of your articles.
Last but not least, if you really want those portraits to be removed then trash them ingame. (EDIT: Scratch that, you could aswell just delete the character from your login screen.) Fair Winds. --Kamuflaro 21:42, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Island transfers & BKs

I undid your edit as the Oceanmasters updated the official documentation today to include information about pending BK blockades. Just so you know I wasn't being mean =) --Sagacious (talk) 00:48, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

I got the petition response pretty quick and thus falsly thought they would not update the policy any time soon - I just wanted the information to be available to anyone and would have prefered if Thunderbird would have got an OM to change it first before reverting. --Kamuflaro 01:25, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

RfC opened at YPPedia talk:Policies and guidelines

Hello, I got your name from a prior RfC where you commented, and thought you would be interested in this one. It's a relatively minor point, whether to restrict standard-named vessels from crew and flag articles like personal pirate pages. You can find it at YPPedia talk:Policies and guidelines#Bullet list of Ships on Crew/Flag pages. Thanks for your attention. Chupchup 00:41, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
