Game Overview

Booty or No Booty is a game where one person can walk away with a prize. It could be a tan bandana or a familiar or something in between. The fun is in finding out. There are several chances to win a golden ticket from tournaments, events or other contests. Winning a ticket will give you a chance to be in the hot seat. The hot seat winner gets to pick a numbered box containing a mystery prize. This box will ultimately be the prize won. Other boxes are opened in an attempt to determine what might be in the winning box. At given intervals, spectators will be given the chance to offer PoE, they are in possession of, to buy their way into the hot seat, and gain control of the mystery prize box.

Before the Game

One hour before the game starts, an Oceanmaster or oceanmaster alt will send out a /broadcast across the ocean. This will typically point out when the event will be starting, what can be won, and a link to this page. On the more heavily-populated oceans, a location will NOT be given. To enter the event simply go to one of the following locations:

The host of the event is Nobooty.

Between 5 and 15 minutes before the scheduled event time, a golden ticket MAY be given out. Nobooty won't be telling how or when, so please don't ask!

Reminder: Once you enter the house you are required to follow the rules mentioned above.

A golden ticket.

Golden Ticket Lottery

The first thing that must happen is for players to turn in golden tickets they have. When Nobooty asks for them, you may send him one trade request and wait patiently for him to get to you. Golden tickets only count if they have your name on them, or there is no name on it at all. Five minutes will be allowed for tickets to be turned in. After which time those who have turned one in will be invited to the other side of the garden. Here there will be a number of boxes set up. Each person will take turns picking a box, which they get to keep. (A player will get one box for every ticket he/she turned in). Once all players have a box, they can be opened to check what is inside. They will contain one of the following things:

Contents Meaning What to do
Bandana You have not won Nothing
Bid ticket You have not won Nothing
Greeting card If it says 'BOOTY', you will be in the hot seat Wait until Nobooty asks for you to shout out 'BOOTY!'

You will then be invited onto the stage.

If it says 'NO BOOTY', you get a refund Wait until Nobooty asks for you to shout 'NO BOOTY!'

He will then send a trade request in order to exchange the card for another golden ticket.

Other gift You haven't won, but you won a consolation prize! It depends. Listen to what Nobooty says.

The person whose box contained the card with 'Booty' on it will become the hot seat winner. The player in the hot seat has control of the game. They get to choose which boxes are opened next, take or turn down the PoE offered for the game box, and will be the prize winner at the end of the game. Everyone else now becomes a spectator and can join the bidding to try and buy their way onto the stage and into the hot seat. They can also participate it the surPRIZE competitions.

Main Game

Once the hot seat winner has been determined the main game begins! The contestant will be given a chance to say a little about him/herself before picking a box. The boxes are numbered 1-22 and each contains one of the following:

The playing board.

This box and its contents are now what the main focus of the game is. The box that they pick is ALMOST always the box won at the end of the game. Once the box has been chosen it will be put aside. Since no one knows what is in each box, the remaining boxes will be opened to see what is inside. The other boxes are opened and the items they contain removed from the labeled prize boxes (known as the playing board). These prizes are not won by anyone, they are simply stricken from the playing board, narrowing down the list of prizes that may be in that first chosen box.

In the first round 5 boxes and the prizes they contain are eliminated. After the 5 boxes have been eliminated spectators have a chance to bid for the first chosen box. (See bidding below for more details). This cycle continues for another 5 rounds eliminating 3 boxes each time. This will leave the prize that is in the first box and one other on the playing board.

The aim of the hot seat player is to eliminate low value prizes (know as blue boxes). This will increase the chances that a good prize is in the chosen box and hopefully drive up the bid amounts. Remember though that there is no way of knowing what is in a box until it is opened including the first box chosen, so it is pure and simple guessing.

Once the bidding is over an offer will be made to the hot seat contestant, they can do one of two things:

  • Say booty: They receive the PoE offered, leave the stage, and game play resumes with the successful bidder in the hot seat.
  • Say no booty: The game continues to the next round.

The player in the hot seat in the final round will be asked to choose a switcheroo box (see swticheroo below for details). They will then be awarded the prize in whichever box they are now in control of.

Bidding

After every round of box openings there will be a chance for spectators to try and buy the first box off the current hot seat player. This is done in two segments:

First Round

The first round of bidding is a gauge round. When Nobooty says “Bid” send him a /tell with how much money you would be willing to pay to buy the box. Bids shouted out in the house will NOT be considered. Bids will only be accepted in PoE form; Doubloons, ships or any other form of barter will be ignored. Approximately 30 seconds will be allowed for bids. The highest bid in the round will be announced to the house and bidding will move to the second round.

Second Round

The second round of bidding will determine the amount offered for the box. You should use the top bid in the previous round as an estimate of what others are willing to pay. The second round will have a bidding threshold. Bids that are over this amount or very close to it should be sent in a /pay to Nobooty. Bids under it should still be sent as a /tell. All unsuccessful bids that were paid WILL be returned.

Bidding will end with Nobooty says “Stop.” The highest bid will then be offered to the player currently in control of the hot seat with the infamous choice- Booty or No Booty.

False Bidding

You should NOT bet an amount of PoE that you do not currently have on your pirate, or an amount you are not willing to pay. This is considered false bidding and will result in your immediate banning from any future Booty or No Booty events.

Switcheroo

After the sixth round of bidding has taken place, the player in the hot seat will be asked to choose a switcheroo box. There is usually a theme for the naming of these boxes. Examples: “Artemis” & “Demeter”, “Jelly” & “Jam”, “Coke” & “Pepsi” One box allows the player to swap the first box for the other numbered box left in play if they want to. The other has no effect. Should the player be allowed to swap boxes, the other numbered box left in play is now the winning box, and they will receive the item inside as the prize. Otherwise, the item inside the very first box chosen will be the prize.

surPRIZES

Sometimes during the main game, occasional “intermissions” are taken for a few minutes. They may be between box openings, between bidding segments, or between rounds. They will happen whenever Nobooty feels like doing one. Requesting a surPRIZE contest will only force Nobooty to make you wait even longer for it.

There are usually 5 or 6 (possibly more) boxes of an unrelated color on the stage. A task will be required, such as answering a trivia question or doing something. The winner of the task (which may or may not be the first one to do it) gets to pick a box and wins the item inside. Occasionally, there could be a twist, such as gambling the contests of the box or opting for an unknown amount of cash.

SurPRIZES could be anything from trinkets to clothes to weapons (sword, mug, bludgeon) or even something very rare.
