Sea Monster Hunt

From YPPedia

A Sea Monster Hunt (or SMH for short) is a voyage configuration option. It allows pirates to chart a ship to an Atlantean Outpost, the Cursed Isles, a Kraken lair, or the Haunted Seas. Here, pirates may fight Atlantean Monsters, zombies, the Kraken, or ghosts, respectively.

A ship's voyage configuration may be set to Sea Monster mode only after being charted to a Sea Monster location with the corresponding map. Any job offers posted after this appear under the "Sea Monster" heading on the Voyages tab of the Notice Board.

On a doubloon ocean, a bravery badge is needed to join a Sea Monster Hunt. On a subscriber ocean, pirates must be subscribed. Dark Seas onlyOn the Dark Seas, a badge is not required to participate.

In Sea Monster Hunts, there is a chance of getting treasure chests when playing the battle navigation, treasure haul, or foraging puzzles. These factor into the Booty Division at port.

Historical notes

  • "Sea Monster Hunt" takes its name from the first voyage destination of this type; Atlantis, introduced with release 2007-09-04. Subsequent destinations were introduced with release 2008-11-19, release 2011-09-28, and release 2014-07-29, being the Cursed Isles, the Haunted Seas, and the Kraken lair respectively. All shared the same voyage configuration as Atlantis. Thus, although only Atlantis is home to sea monsters, all four are nonetheless referred to as types of Sea Monster Hunt. This naming convention is used both in the official game documentation, and colloquially by players. This naming convention can cause confusion, with some pirates understanding "SMH" to mean Atlantis specifically, although there has been no indication that it will be changed.
