Seeding

Is it just me or does the seeding subsection now contradict itself?--Vurogj 16:41, 15 October 2005 (PDT)

Edited the part about byes in the main section, as in my experience, byes are distributed according to the seeding method. --Thunderbird 16:53, 15 October 2005 (PDT)

cascading exponentially

http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=481126#481126 has Lordkalvan's explanation of cascading exponentially payouts. It may be better than the current explanation in the article. --Guppymomma 15:58, 28 November 2005 (PST)

Tourney broadcasts

Does anyone know exactly how big the prize pot has to be in order for the broadcast to reach those aboard ships? I just saw such a broadcast for a 100k+foil tournament on Sage, while on board a ship. --Thunderbird 18:19, 23 January 2006 (PST)

Pot bonus

Why would I create a tournament with pot bonus and items? What do I gain from it (if I don't win the tournament)?

Perhaps you may have heard of the concept of fun and sharing. :) --Guppymomma 19:13, 2 April 2006 (PDT)
That's the loosest way of putting it; the thing about creating tournaments is that they're not really a good way for you to accrue wealth. Yes, if you're really good, you might be able to sweep your own tournament and make some money, but...It'd probably be more efficient to just do individual matches. A "good" tournament is about bringing players together for some friendly matches. That said, if you want to look at it from a business standpoint, then having a pot offers an advantage, because it draws in more players, thus increasing the final pot for you (if you win). Still...If you want to make money, I'd recommend doing others' tournaments, or just doing individual matches. Have fun. :) --Emufarmers 22:50, 2 April 2006 (PDT)

Prize section needs updating

I'd do it, but my brain is hurting to try to change what's there into what's now accurate. It probably just needs a rewrite instead of a revision. --Guppymomma 19:28, 24 May 2007 (PDT)

Broadcasts?

A recent discussion I had with someone brought to light a discrepancy in the text on this page regarding broadcasts for tournaments. In the Prize section, It says,

"If the prize value including PoE, items, and entry fees are worth a total of at least 5,000 PoE, an automatic oceanwide tournament broadcast is sent once the minimum pirate number is reached."

In the Tournament Broadcasts section, however, it says,

"The prize pool is at least 5,000 PoE (this can be entry fees and the pot bonus) "

The latter implies that items are not included (and I am pretty sure this is correct), which is in conflict with the former.

Which is correct, so that the text can be revised to reflect this? -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 23:54, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I've seen tournaments with just a sloop deed and no poe prize broadcast. So poe is not required, unless things have changed. --Thunderbird 05:37, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
I've always known it to broadcast when items like ships are part of the prizes and no PoE is involved. I don't think it needs the minimum number of pirates to be met before it broadcasts. --Sagacious (talk) 23:48, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Aye, tournaments with ships or familiars as prizes are special cases. I seem to recall reading somewhere that tournaments would only be broadcast to pirates on islands - pirates on ships would receive the broadcast only when a ship or a familiar was a prize... and possibly if the PoE passed a certain amount, though I'm not certain of that. --Belthazar451 00:14, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

The amount needed to broadcast ocean-wide to those on ships is 100,000 PoE, not 10,000 PoE as stated several times in this article. I tested it on Midnight (and pissed off several people while doing it).Sprngweather 00:32, 22 August 2011 (PDT)

Did you test something like 90,000 PoE too? The article original stated that for ships a much higher sum is needed, but the exact sum is unknown, until someone changed that to 10k without comment. That value was later copied. Anyway, if you tested it, feel free to change it. --Alfwyn 05:21, 22 August 2011 (PDT)

Prize: Dubs in tourny.

The ability to add doubs as prize on doubloon ocean have been removed. Confirmed by OM thanks to a hearty. Just a slight note in case no one notice.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Yaypuzzlez (talkcontribs)

Rated

The history section mentions It was once possible to choose whether or not a tournament was rated; this functionality has since been removed. But there is actually a rated checkbox now. So was the option removed and later reintroduced ? Searching the release notes didn't turn up anything useful. But the image shows, that there was a time without an option for unrated tournaments. --Alfwyn 15:23, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

A more thorough search turned up that Release 2008-03-19 (re)introduced unrated tournaments for sf and rumble. But what about drinking and treasure drop ? Was it always possible to configure them unrated ? --Alfwyn 19:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
