Talk:Portrait clothing

From YPPedia

Great job so far! For your missing male boots with gaiters.

colors

I may have booched a few colors. It's not my strong suit. --Barrister 22:01, 24 June 2006 (PDT)

And now, a suggestion: Some of the images have colors that make it difficult to tell the effects of the primary vs. secondary colors. For example, the black/black cape. So, if anyone finds some good replacement images for those few cases, that'd be great. Remember to use the same image size.  :-) --Barrister 22:33, 24 June 2006 (PDT)
The Crown is Green/White, just checked. I'll start on getting new images. --Angelbeaver 14:02, 28 June 2006 (PDT)
How is the wig Blue/White? I'm almost certain from looking at wigs in Quid pro and ingame that there should be a white bow. The section where there should be a bow is blue. Then again, I'm often wrong. --Angelbeaver 10:10, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
That's my portrait. If you would like to dispute the blue/white wig that I wear on my head, feel free to do so but it's right there and I paid for it and the portrait. ;) If you see a bow (white or blue or any color) somewhere in the portrait, you should let me know where it is because I sure as heck can't see it. --Guppymomma 10:22, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
The bow for female wigs are on the back. If you compare the way the wig 'rolls' from portraits to tailor preview - you'll notice the bows are actually on the back of the wig. Therefore it is not possible to determine the secondary colour of the wig from a portrait, the same as the tiara - except that you can't determine the primary colour instead.
Alternatively, the arrtist who made the female wig portrait image has accidentally/intentionally made the wig 'back-to-front' for portraits. --Sagacious (talk) 10:27, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
I've noticed that in game, the bow is on the front of my head. In game, when I click on my beady little head, the bow is also on the front. --Guppymomma 10:32, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
Looks like Blackhat has made a booch. HWFO :-) --Sagacious (talk) 10:42, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
Uh, it wasn't Blackhat. He's working on B!H. --Eurydice 10:53, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
He claimed responsibility for the Midriff blouse colour booch in portraits...and numerous people have said he was behind some of the new items >.> --Sagacious (talk) 10:56, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
Unless he specifically has claimed responsibility for the wig in portraits, it seems pretty childish to assume that it's his error or try to publically taunt/tease him about it. --Guppymomma 11:07, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
:-/ Right - I was only making...a joke? Meh - not meant to offend. --Sagacious (talk) 11:09, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
In that case I'll alter it to Blue/Hidden --Angelbeaver 11:59, 29 June 2006 (PDT)

Long dress covers feet?

Just wondering... I thinks it's the gown that doesn't let ye see what ye are wearing on yer feet not the long dress like it's stated at the beginning of article. --Cecidrake 00:49, 25 June 2006 (PDT)

You're correct. I've fixed it. --Barrister 01:12, 25 June 2006 (PDT)

On the same note, the primary colour for the Tiara is also hidden as far as I can tell from my 'research' (I compared two tiaras with different primary colours on the same background). I'm about to alter it to say hidden/black, that suit? --Angelbeaver 08:09, 29 June 2006 (PDT)

I suppose. The primary colour is that of the 'inside/top' - not visable in a portrait. --Sagacious (talk) 08:16, 29 June 2006 (PDT)

Pegleg

Noticing the curled slippers produced a different pegleg to the default, AND fancy bots (I think) would it be worth noting it somewhere? I'd be itnerested to see a pegleg with the boots gaiters. --Lethallizard 12:00, 29 June 2006 (PDT)

Boots with gaiters turn peglegs grey I believe. --Sagacious (talk) 12:04, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
All that info is here--Angelbeaver 12:06, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
I see, but what I'm saying, would it be worth it to include images of these alternative peglegs? noticing the female curled slipper pegleg, "gold" isn't descriptive enough for me. --Lethallizard 12:10, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
Yes. Feel free to add it to the section on injuries. --Barrister 12:17, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
Hum, I would, but i'm not good with tables. Also - I would be inclined to do a quick search for portraits with peglegs to search for the other images, but I don't think I'd have the patience to look for long. --Lethallizard 12:30, 29 June 2006 (PDT)
Does anyone have the images for what a male pegleg with curled boots looks like, I have ~31 hours untill I am getting them and will soon after have a portrait with them but I do not have a pegleg. --Cheeseman984 16:31, 05 July 2006 (PDT)

Wig cut-off?

Isn't Hypnos's noyce pink wig portrait a single? --Sagacious (talk) 17:20, 12 July 2006 (PDT)

I'm not sure what your question is. Yes, Hypnos has a single one for midnight with a wig and it is cut off. --Guppymomma 17:37, 12 July 2006 (PDT)
It is?!? :-/ I see a whole wig with the cropped version we have in our table on this page. I've been had. A secret portait was made was a very similar background in the same outfit. The single version is cut-off. --Sagacious (talk) 17:42, 12 July 2006 (PDT)
Sorry, just only uploaded the new one. The crown is also cut off, though, and perhaps we should add the same note for loose pants with sashes, bloomers, gowns, long dress bottoms, and the shoes (all cut off when used in single or double portraits)? Can we do footnotes? (We're still missing bloomers in expansive portraits... hmm... (Would've thought people would be making plenty of harem portraits already.)) Gail 09:58, 13 July 2006 (PDT)
Sounds like a good idea. Just add the * after the color on any of 'em where the singles cut it off. Do two-pirate portraits cut anything off? We could use a different symbol for that. --Guppymomma 15:47, 13 July 2006 (PDT)
2-pirate portraits show the entire crown/wig. However, they do not show feet. --Barrister 16:50, 13 July 2006 (PDT)

Female wig

I think there may actually be a booch in the drawing for this particular item. Female wigs have a ribbon on the front of them for the in-game appearance. For the portrait appearance, it doesn't seem to be there for some reason. --Thunderbird 02:17, 13 July 2006 (PDT)

It's back to front when rendered in portraits. I kinda raised that point on the forums several weeks ago and it fell on deaf ears... Not sure if that was intentional, I'm guessing not.--Sagacious (talk) 03:22, 13 July 2006 (PDT)

Just wanted to bring up that it's wasn't previously backwards. The roll part was, and still is swirling in the opposite direction of the inventory image. The bangs have always been in the front in both the inventory & portrait images. The update changed the artwork a bit, but the roll is still backwards, the bangs are still in the front, just a bow has been added. I'll correct the note to reflect this. Older portrait wig, Newer portrait wig and inventory wig --Guppymomma 07:43, 15 August 2006 (PDT)

Urg they didn't fix it properly then :-s --Sagacious (talk) 08:06, 15 August 2006 (PDT)
Just as a little update, Nemo's been notified and is on the case. Third time's the charm ;) --Guppymomma 10:53, 15 August 2006 (PDT)

Familiars

With some of the tops, namely the female tabard, striped shirt, shirt with belt, and the male captains jacket, familiars obstruct to a degree the details of said item. If better portraits without these obstructions can be found, I would like to see them replace the images currently displayed here. --Lethallizard 08:04, 22 September 2006 (PDT)

Image formats

If someone's feeling bored, these images should really be PNG. It'd be great to get the same images already there, but the really important part is that the images be the same size. --Barrister 09:11, 15 December 2006 (PST)

Why should they be PNG? I know we prefer PNG for screenshots and things like that, but portraits are generated by the game as JPG which is why we require that format for the pirate infobox. I don't see much point in converting the image format.--Fiddler 11:11, 15 December 2006 (PST)
The file sizes are smaller in PNG - which can help to ease the load on browsers and slow connections when loading pages like this, containing many images. Sidenote: I'll finish the uploading later, I've got to go off and do something. --Sagacious (talk) 11:15, 15 December 2006 (PST)
Actually, that's not the reason. We start with a JPG (the portrait). Then we crop it down to size. If we save as JPG, then the image has been lossy-compressed twice. (First time was when the portrait was created.) However, if we save the cropped image as PNG, then we only have one iteration of lossy-compression per image.
Sagacious, did you find the originals or just convert the existing JPGs? --Barrister 12:22, 15 December 2006 (PST)
I did it wrong >.> Let me fix >.< --Sagacious (talk) 19:30, 15 December 2006 (PST)

Masks and Things

If we're including the Funny Glasses on this page, oughtn't we also include the Halloween Masks and the Santa Hat? --JasonHaffner 00:08, 16 December 2006 (PST)

The santa hat is there already. Halloween masks sound a good idea to me though. --Sagacious (talk) 00:12, 16 December 2006 (PST)
Halloween masks take up a lot of space. I think a simple link to the Halloween mask page should be sufficient. --Barrister 00:36, 16 December 2006 (PST)

New images

I've created a new page with new images. The images are all PNG and all include the original source. However, I may have messed up the color names. If people could take a look at User:Barrister/Sandbox2 and fix any mistakes, that would be great. There's currently one missing image, but I hope to add it tonight. --Barrister 13:41, 18 December 2006 (PST)

Atlantean Helmets

I'm not even going to attempt to fit this into the existing tables, so can someone else rework that? :) --Epimetheus (t/c) 23:59, 5 September 2007 (PDT)

They're huge. I've had to increase the height on the male hats by 10 pixels. They're now 140x135. --Barrister 20:23, 10 September 2007 (PDT)

Tops

I have noticed that tops give you different poses when you don't have an item in your hand. The wiki currently has a few examples, but most of the pictures representing tops in this article are taken from portraits with items. Some tops, especially the tudor bodice and midriff blouse, put pirates into odd poses. I think it would be great to update the tops sections for both male and female so that all pictures are taken from portraits in which the pirate isn't holding an item. If folks think this a good idea, I'll start hunting for example portraits with the top-specific poses. --Peanutswench 16:24, 18 March 2008 (PDT)

I guess you're looking for Portrait pose. Historically that article is older than this one, which is probably the reason it is a seperate article. --Alfwyn 16:31, 18 March 2008 (PDT)
Sorry, apparently I missed the Poses article. I think perhaps we should link the Poses from the Portrait Clothing a bit better, so folks looking up clothing will know that it will affect their pose if they are not holding an item. --Peanutswench 16:34, 18 March 2008 (PDT)

Enlightened Mask

Further to the discussion about Atlantean Helmets above, the Enlighened Mask is tall. It's like they're trying to make things difficult for us. =) Now, I realise it's good to include the whole image of the mask, but at the moment, it's distorting the table somewhat, which doesn't look terribly pretty. So what's plan B? --Belthazar451 04:10, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Sadly, plan B is to make all the female hat pictures the same size as the Enlightened Mask. Bletch. --Barrister 04:29, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
And the male ones. I truncated the male Enlightened Mask to fit it in (though it was partly truncated anyway, since I got it off a single portrait). --Belthazar451 04:44, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Just noticed that the male antler band portrait image has been cut off since Cedarwings uploaded it last year, and it's passed unmentioned since then. In that case, surely it'd be fine for the Enlightened Mask too. =) --Belthazar451 03:38, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

New layout proposal

I propose using a gallery to make this page more useful. I'd crop the images tightly and then use a larger-than-default box size for the gallery. The downside is that we lose the template. Thoughts? --Barrister 04:54, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Why? What's the upside to using a gallery? What's wrong with what we have? --Belthazar451 11:11, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
The problem with the existing layout is that we have to keep making the cropped regions larger and larger. The enlightened mask means making everything taller. Although, you've given me an idea on how to solve this, so I'm going to try a non-gallery solution in my sandbox. --Barrister 20:57, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
