Talk:Callistan

From YPPedia

Okay, I'll deal with this at another date but this page is a good example of how we really need to manually add portrait gallery links and keep individual "Ocean X pirates" category tabs. --Featherfin 12:44, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Perhaps need to make an expanded template, so it goes 'ocean1pirate=X, ocean1=X' etc. Possibly splitting the portrait image code in one template, and the link box in another. --Sagacious (talk) 16:38, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

User Page Link

I just noticed this page with Callistan's resurgence; it has a link to his user contributions, and to his user page. I was under the impression that this wasn't permitted, but...Well, rather than simply removing it, I thought it might be worth having a policy debate. On the one hand, you have the whole "this page is about the pirate behind the man" argument, and on the other you would have, "but if the pirate has a lot of wiki contributions, isn't that worth mentioning?"

Discuss? --Emufarmers 19:09, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

Some good cleaning up would probably do the trick well enough. Personally I think it's fine to have footnoted links to the contributions page & the user page. There are some bits like rl nonYPP related hobbies/interests that would probably be better on his user page.
Examples of places where I think links to the userspace are definitely inappropriate: Redirects from the pirate name to the user page and main namespace pirate name links to the user page. This page doesn't do either of those things. --Guppymomma 20:23, 12 June 2006 (PDT)
Well, as far as I'd seen, user page links have always been straight-out removed from pirate articles...But maybe that's just because they aren't done "properly" very often. What's the consensus on this, and could we codify it somewhere (/em likes codification)? --Emufarmers 20:37, 12 June 2006 (PDT)
It's not even been an hour and a half since your first post here. Give it time. --Eurydice 20:53, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

Plaice named ships list

There's lots more information here than just ship names (they're specific too), so perhaps an exception can be made from the general rule that there should not be lists of standard named ships on pirate pages. In almost all other cases, the list has been of ship names only and doesn't add more to the body of facts about a pirate other than being merely a collection of random names (as opposed to specific ones). -- Faulkston 10:35, 24 June 2007 (PDT)
