Shannal's Story
Shannal first discovered the world of Puzzle Pirates in 2004, however knew quickly she would get addicted and had to focus on her studies, as she was working on an undergraduate degree, so did not subscribe to the game. However, the game kept a little place in the back of her head, so the moment she graduated and got a job, she quickly subscribed and thus was born Shannal.
She had a few greenie moments - mostly due to her memories of playing YPP two years previous. Shannal spent an hour wandering around a bank trying to figure out how to deposit money, because she knew it could be done, she remembered doing it before. Then there were those times when she jobbed on ships trying to get to a specific island and quickly leaving when they weren't going where she wanted. This continued until someone said the magic words "whisking potion" and she responded "wait, whisking what?".
After a short 2-day stint with some crew she doesn't remember, Shannal succumbed to the charm of Bumblegus and joined the Get of Fenris, becoming a pirate in that crew. She quickly became addicted to the game and puzzled fiercely, wanting to climb up the ranks. Soon after, Surfie noticed her hard work and promoted her to officer.
In December 2006, Shannal was asked to be an executive officer in the blockade of Ostreum in which Elysian Fields took the island. After a successful time being an executive officer for her crew member Fangs, Shannal was promoted to fleet officer.
Shannal continued to work hard on her stats, running pillages, and recruiting members. Soon, she was promoted to Senior Officer, much to the contention of some members of the crew. However, she rose to the challenge and did her best to be a leader in the crew.
She got more involved at a flag level, enjoying flag officer chat and getting to know her flag mates. Shannal learned to float ships like a pro, conditioned after two Meke to Ostreum floats, and became a champion floater for the flag. She soon came to the notice of the royalty of the flag. Her crew members Fangs, a prince of Elysian Fields, was unable to spend as much time with the game, and so Surfie put forth Shannal's name for royalty in his place. While there was some resistance to her rising to this spot so quickly, the majority of royalty voted aye, and Shannal became a princess of Elysian Fields.
Soon after the taking of Ostreum, Shannal started to notice a crazy bunch of people in the flag, namely the crew of Barnacle for Brains. After a few Brigand King and Black ship hunts, Shannal became a fast friend of this bunch. Added to this, was the fact that she loved Sailing and Chrisspy loves sailors. Shannal began spending more time with this crew, often logging on, finding herself jobbed into their crew for the crew chat.
In January 2007, Barnacle for Brains left Elysian Fields, and begged Shannal to come along, constantly clicking on the "Invite to Join our Crew" button. She finally agreed to put an alt in the crew. After much debate, Chrisspy came up with the name Promiscuous, and thus, Shannal's secondary character was born. While the mates of Barnacle for Brains do not like alts, they put up with Promiscuous, eventually promoting her to officer and leaving her there. Shannal began to spend more time on Promiscuous, including participation in the 24-hour blockade, as well as assisting in Icutmyself's Cutter Race and Galasea's Adopt-a-Pet contest, of the Incredible Weekend. While she had originally wanted to keep Promiscuous a secret, it leaked to the Elysian Fields members and she stopped bothering.
Shannal began to feel a bit out of place in Elysian Fields. She spent more and more time on her alts, having a blast when she did. She began having conversations with hearties about her current situation in the game and where she saw herself going in the future. Eventually she realized it was time to leave Elysian Fields. While the flag had given her many opportunities, she had reached a point in the game where if she wanted to keep it fun, she needed to move on. Elysian Fields was a very strong, political flag, and Shannal was at the point where she didn't want to have to deal with the politics, she just wanted to play a fun game. As well, she was building a close circle of friends that were close to her age, and while the Elysian Fields members were all great folks and good friends, they were all much older or younger than her, not giving her that same type of bond she had with others.
On March 16, 2007, Shannal left the Get of Fenris and Elysian Fields to go seek her future on the Midnight Ocean.
After a short independent stint, Shannal became a Barnacle and was made a fleet officer. After buying 6 mannequins, representing the current group of 6 senior officers, and placing them on the Holy Barnacle, a vote was put up to promote her to senior officer. It eventually passed and Shannal was made a senior officer.
