Requests for adminship (RfA) is the process by which the YPPedia community decides who should be an administrator (or sysop). Administrators have access to a few technical features that help with maintenance. A user may submit his own request for adminship (a self-nomination) or may be nominated by another user.

Please be familiar with the administrators' reading list and how-to guide before submitting your request.

About RfA

The community grants administrator status to trusted users who are familiar with YPPedia policies. Admins have no special authority on YPPedia, but are held to high standards, as they are often perceived as the "official face" of YPPedia. Admins should be courteous and should exercise good judgment and patience in dealing with others. Nominees should have been on YPPedia long enough for people to see whether they have these qualities. That said, adminship should be no big deal. Admin actions are reversible; being an admin is primarily an extra responsibility, as there are rules and policies that apply only to admins.

Nomination standards
There are no official numerical standards for adminship; however, most new admins have a sufficient amount of in-game and YPPedia experience along with a reasonably good (not necessarily perfect) record of behavior (this will be checked by the wiki Ocean Master, Clotho).
You may nominate yourself. Some people apply higher standards to self-nominations, while others view them more favorably as showing initiative and desire to serve the community. A solid editing background is important whether a candidate is self-nominated or nominated by another person.
A description of some users' personal standards can be found at YPPedia:Requests for adminship/Standards.
Nomination process
Any user in good standing may nominate any other user. Nominations remain for seven days, during which time interested users register their opinions or make comments. At the end of that period, candidates who receive consensus supported will be made admins. The bureaucrats who handle admin promotions review the discussion to see if a consensus is present (the threshold for consensus here is roughly 75-80 percent support). In exceptional circumstances, bureaucrats may extend the deadline or call for a revote if this will make the consensus more clear. Nominations that will clearly fail may be removed earlier to prevent discussions that generate ill will.
If your nomination fails, please wait a reasonable period of time – about two months – before nominating yourself again or accepting another nomination.
Please note that when you put yourself up for or accept someone else putting you up for nomination, you are asking for honest opinions and you need to be prepared to see such things, good or bad. If you feel unsure about your nomination, it is appropriate to check with a current administrator to privately ask if it seems like a good idea.
Additional Note: If a user does not know how to edit well enough to follow the directions to create the link to and create the RfA page, their nomination will be reverted. This does not include minor mistakes such as not filling in the date, etc. If the incorrectly done RfA is a self-nomination, that user name will be added to the unsuccessful candidacies page with an appropriate note.
Voting and commenting
Any YPPedian is welcome to vote, including the nominator (however, because the focus is on whether other people in the community trust the user, self-nominating candidates do not normally vote for themselves). To add your vote, click the "Vote here" link for the relevant candidate. You may then indicate whether you support or oppose the nomination by signing your name under the relevant heading.
Please include a short explanation of your reasoning, particularly when opposing a nomination. Remember that we are all people with feelings, emotions and pride: please respect others in your comments and responses.
Neutral votes are also permitted, but not necessarily counted in determining percentages, although they will be considered by bureaucrats in borderline cases. Long discussions should be held in the Comments section.
Please be honest when you vote. Only support a candidate who you truly believe would make a good administrator. Don't be afraid to oppose a nomination for fear of hurting a user's feelings; do, however, always explain the reasoning for your vote.
Ultimately, your vote should be decided by yourself. You should not give in to peer pressure. Vote for what you think is right, not necessarily what others are voting.
Nomination instructions

To nominate yourself or another user:

  1. Edit this page and add the following text above the most recent nomination (replacing USERNAME with the name of the user being nominated):
    {{YPPedia:Requests for adminship/USERNAME}}
    ----
  2. Save the page. You should now see a red link to the nomination subpage in the new RfA text. Follow that link (to YPPedia:Requests for adminship/USERNAME) and enter this text (replacing USERNAME as before, and replacing other words in CAPITALS as appropriate):
    {{subst:RfA|User=USERNAME|Ending=SEVEN DAYS AFTER TODAY'S DATE|Description=YOUR DESCRIPTION OF THE USER ~~~~}}
  3. Click "Show preview" and check your nomination for completeness. Save the page when you are finished.
  4. Make sure you use subst:

Current nominations

Add new requests at the top of this section

Nominations must be accepted by the user in question. If you nominate a user, leave a message on their talk page and ask them to reply here if they accept the nomination.

Please remember to update the vote-tallies in the headers when voting

Requests for bureaucratship

Bureaucrats are administrators with the additional ability to make other users admins or bureaucrats, based on community decisions reached here. The process for bureaucrats is similar to that for adminship above, but is generally only by request of the wiki Ocean Master, Clotho. The expectation for bureaucratship is higher than for admin, in terms of numbers of votes, ability to engage voters and candidates, and significant disqualifications. Candidates might consider initiating a discussion here of the prevailing consensus about the need for additional bureaucrats before nominating themselves.
