The Tournament
Get ready for a new fun chance, to have an extra way of getting your Portrait Backgrounds into the in-game selection. Remember that your entries in this tournament, can also be added as entries in the Portrait Background Contest.
So you Artist out there can be doubly eligible for your Portrait Background to get put in the in-game portrait background selection.
Introduction
The Krakens have come, now it’s your turn to prove yourself worthy, show the Krakens your talent, and become The Ultimate Portrait Kraken Artist!
The Krakens turn to you, skilled artists out there, to help them find the Lost Kraken Gems. These Lost Gems are found in special clamshells. The Krakens know where they are located in the Oceans, so they can describe what the location looks like. They need you to draw the location out for them, by making the location into a Portrait Background. Then using the Portrait Backgrounds, they’ll whisk to the location, and retrieve The Lost Gems.

Tournament Rounds
There will be a new round for each month, until the end of March. Each round will ask for a different Portriat Background.
Tournament Round Starting Dates
1st Round- December 1st-December 30th (Link)
2nd Round- January 1st-January 30th
3rd Round- February 1st-February 30th
4th Round- March 1st-March 30th
Tournament Final Judging (Mandatory)
This will be the Last Round where you place all your Portrait Backgrounds, you designed in this event. Kraken Artists will have 3 days to place all their Portrait Backgrounds, they made in this event, into the Final Judging Entry Thread. This is a MANDATORY round. If you want a chance for the main prizes, then you must participate in this round. Then a-wait the Krakens final decision!

Rules
Entrants will create original backgrounds from their original artwork that are consistent with the requirements of the round. The image must look sensible with characters placed on it in any of the orientations possible for its size.
Multiple entries are acceptable.
A very small signature in the lower right corner is acceptable.
Entries should be uploaded to YPPedia according to the instructions below.
Entry Specifications & Suggestions
Entries must fit the appropriate scale. (sizes below are width x height)
- 1-pirate backgrounds: 348 x 650
- 2-pirate backgrounds: 696 x 650
- Large backgrounds: 1600 x 1170
In game portrait painting crops part of the background when placing pirates in portraits. For the single portrait, it crops 47 pixels from the bottom and 23 pixels from the top of the final portrait (which is half-size of the original background). For two pirate backgrounds, it crops 50 pixels from the bottom. Take this into account on your entries. In large backgrounds, 130 pixels are cropped from the right.
You may use the following image masks to determine the safe frame. Put them on top of your image to see how much will be cut off.

The preferred file format is PNG.
Pirate Cutouts
You can test out what your background looks like as an actual portrait by using pirate cutouts.
- Two-pirate cutout - available in Gimp, Photoshop, and GIF formats.
- One-pirate cutout - available in PNG and Photoshop file formats.
How to Upload Entries to YPPedia
PNG format is preferred. Please use the filename format of Art-YOUR_FORUM_NAME-filename.png. Replace YOUR_FORUM_NAME with your actual forum name. This will help cut down on confusion if there is more than one "dock" or other filename.
Please read these directions prior to following them.
1.Make sure you are logged in to YPPedia, you can login using your forum account & password by using the "Login" link at the upper right corner of the page.
2.Click on "Upload file" on the menu bar to the left.
3.Click on the "Browse" button to select your portrait background's filename on your computer. Selecting your filename will automatically fill in the Source filename & Destination filename fields.
4.You should then fill in the Summary field with {{Krakencontest|YOUR_FORUM_NAME}} which will display this tag on the bottom of your entry once you view/save it. Note: Replace YOUR_FORUM_NAME with your actual forum name and remember to Capitalize the first letter.
5.Click on the "Upload file" button.
If an image file with the same name already exists, please rename yours (unless you are updating your entry).
If you make changes to your entry and need to update the image, login to YPPedia. Go to the page for it (the URL will be something like http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/Image:filename.png) and click on "Upload a new version of this file." Follow steps 3-4 above and click on the "Save file" button to replace the old image with the new one.
If you have already uploaded a background to YPPedia and wish to correct the image tag, go to the image's page and click on the "edit" tab. Edit the text to use the correct tag detailed in step 4 above (in the text editing box, not the edit summary field) and click on the "Save page" button. Reuploading the image with a new upload summary will not change the text.

Judging Breakdown
The Tournament Winner, Runner up, and Honourable Mentions will be decided from the amount of points, gained from all the different rounds/events. Points are from the Colours, which are rewarded in each round/event. Colours will be posted near your entry, which will show you how many points you got in the round.

-Anyone who posted a Portrait Background, that followed the main requirement (Depicting a…) = White Colour

The winning Kraken Artist Grand Prize
The Kraken Artist with the most points at the end of the Tournament will win the *Grand Prize*
The Grand Prize winner will recieve,
- The Kraken Artist's Portrait Background entry will be included in the in-game list of available portrait backgrounds for one month. Anyone in the game can use it, but after that it is used no longer. These are limited time collector backgrounds.
- In addition to the fame and thrill of their work being included in the game, each month's winning entrant will also receive a free portrait with his/her background and any single item of clothing in any color set (including black and gold, but excluding the Ubi-only savvy hat).
(Also Nemo mentioned, if he likes all the winners entries, he'll put them all in as a series :D)

Important
Remember, even if your Portrait Background dosn't get put in-game. You are recommended to place them in the (On-going) Portrait Background Contest
