A shanghai or shanghai point is given to a crew when one of its members subscribes or buys doubloons for the first time. Shanghais are used for renaming ships and crews. Ships can be renamed in different ways, a standard rename, or a custom rename. Standard renames must be the Adjective Fish format. Custom renames are a complete rename of the ship, the name has be with real English words, only three words are allowed in the ship name. Crew renames can be 2 to 24 characters long. A rename for a crew is 2 shanghai points for a full rename, 1 shanghai point for a partial change (the difference of a full rename and partial change is at the discretion of the Ocean Masters). To rename your ship, you must send a petition to an Ocean Master with the proposed ship name, the current ship name, the size and location of the vessel and the source of the shanghai points if you are not a captain.
To rename crews, you must also send in a petition. In the petition you must send the proposed crew name in a petition. Some names will not be accepted. Any name that violates the Terms of Service will be denied.
