The Guild has recently searched out a lead as to the weakness of Azarbad the Great. The clue is encrypted into these two pillars. Nothing is known about this structure, except that it could lead us to Azarbad's one vulnerability...is it map, equation, red-herring? The Guild knows not.

Here is the diagram of what we have come to call the Pillars of Might:

Final Deliberation

The Guild has been buzzing over this last batch of puzzles for weeks now. Those Brigand Kings obviously think they're very clever in their treasures and clues.

So far, the Guild knows this:

The "dots" on the pillars somehow combine to spell the word "GOLD". Over 100 pirates have submitted this and the Guild agrees there is validity in this find, however, the other clues revealed in the scrolls of secrets tell us there must be more to this puzzle:

  • What pirate fears GOLD? None! Ye should be focusing on those two pillars instead, mate!
  • You know what the pillars make together...but what are they seperate? Vargas could probably help with one...Azarbad knows the other.
  • Together to make gold...lead and something Vargas knows better than the rest...these are what the pillars mean...

So we assume the answer is: X + Y = GOLD. We know X...we just need to figure out Y. And that should be Azarbad's weakness.

These are the clues we have...we must find an answer SOON!

Solution

It appears the pillars claim that Azarbad feared two things:

(1) Lead: Heavy metals that should damage him or his ships. Lead pull-tabs used to fire cannons.
(2) Alchemy: The ancient and mystical science of converting lead (iron) to gold.

Lead and iron, Azarbad was well acquainted with. His stats in gunnery showed he was extremely knowledgable.
Alchemistry: Vargas was the pro.

The Pillar of Lead was a symbol of the brutal might of heavy metals, while the Pillar of Alchemy was a symbol of the power of the mind...of science. And additionally, if science could create gold, then being a pirate would seem rather useless.

You hunters knew well what the Pillars of Might came together to create...that was the first clue. However, your goal was to figure out what the pillars stood for...in reference to the pirates that were named...and their abilities.
