While Barnabas the Pale be a name that all sea-fairin' folk fear - fisherman, merchant, naval officer, and pirate alike - there be once a time when Barnabas was world renown for his wisdom and brilliance. Twas long ago, indeed, before he became slave to his own curiosity...but the time is not forgotten.

The Guild has been informed by the Order of Mystics that there be a treasure old Barnabas was once after: back when we thrived off a well-fought battle, rather than the tormented souls that wander the sea.

While most of his leftovers from his life among the livin' were ate up by the very flames that devoured his spirit, one burnt page was found among the charred items in his ship cabin. It appears to be from a journal or diary, though it's secrets lie in ashes.

Your goal is finish the work of Barnabas the Wise, and find the treasure he speaks of...to the best of your ability.

FOUND PORTION 1:

All hope to find it is lost. The crew and I left with such high spirits. I should never have dazzled them with stories of easy riches. How could I have been such a fool!

To think we could leave at noon,be gone one day, discover and bring aboard such a treasure, and return to port in time for Samantha's blackberry pie. She is a wonder. How her pies are perfectly prepared for just a handful of minutes after the church's one resounding bell toll. These simple memories fill me with such warmth...she truly is my greatest love. How easy it is to escape my frustration upon simply picturing her face.

I will attempt the expedition, again, in one months time. With such a prize, I will finally afford the wedding Samantha so greatly deserves.

FOUND PORTION 2:

The men have grown mutinous. I sincerely tried to follow all the protocol of my previous journey. I fear, blinded by my haste, I have steered us in the opposite direction of our goal. There has not been a hint of land to speak of. Our rations were only meant to last us for two maybe three days...but we are more than three days out now...in fact, the pre-evening 5 o'clock sun is beginning to wane. And we have no salvation in sight, I fear we are lost.

Unless...I attempt the ritual taught to me by my colleague Vargas. It is of the black arts, and I fear to lose my humanity. But if the power that I gain from such a trifle of voodoo is enough to salvage this journey...I'm willing to attempt it. For Samantha, my love, I would do anything.

I must wait, though. I must be precise. Exactly at Midnight is when the ritual must take place. That gives me six hours and roughly forty minutes to secure myself in my cabin. The men can grow as restless as they wish...by Midnight I will see to it that there is no mutiny...whatever measures I must take.

I love you Samantha.

While the information seems novel, the Order of Mystics seems certain that there be enough here to finally uncover what it was that Barnabas was seeking.

Good luck, hunters!

Solution

As submitted by Swyft:

He was looking for Atlantis on Paradise Island - found in the city of Nassau in the Bahamas.

The numbers turn into coordinates of latitude and longitude.

Portion 1

Leaving at noon, and returning the next day at one is 25. A handful of minutes is 5 and 1 month is 30 days.

This makes latitude: 25 05 30

Portion 2

Being out for 3 days is 72 hours, but because it is 5 o'clock on the 4th day.. it is actually 77. The exact time is 5:20 pm - he said he had 6 hours and 40 minutes to wait until Midnight. The last number is 12 (or 24) for midnight.

This makes Longitude -77 20 12 (or 24)

The minus is there because the second portion is prefaced with Barnabas saying he was "going in the opposite direction"

These coordinates bring you to Paradise Island.. home of the world famous Atlantis resort.
