Number of oceans

I'm a little concerned that 4 won't be enough. And going back and adding a larger count may be painful. Perhaps this one could be for 1 to 4 oceans, and then another template for 5 to 8? --Barrister 02:50, 9 April 2006 (PDT)

Generally, do people have portraits on more than 4 oceans? --Sagacious 02:51, 9 April 2006 (PDT)
A few do, especially OMs/Ringers. The more I think about it, having 1-4 and 5-8 makes some sense. --Barrister 02:59, 9 April 2006 (PDT)
I think it does too. Currently getting my head around the sub templates needed for familiar portrait template. --Sagacious 03:01, 9 April 2006 (PDT)
After my work on {{Infobox pirate}} (Usage) I'm still of the opinion that a template of this sort would be better constructed if/when we have default value support. Otherwise the number of pages that need extraneous variables included will far outweigh the pages that do require them.--Fiddler 05:24, 9 April 2006 (PDT)
I really only made this template for better convienience when adding portrait images to pirate pages. It is a template on a template. --Sagacious 09:07, 9 April 2006 (PDT)

Quick observation. You're working on a 1024 by 768 screen resolution, aren't you? Your approach to Snakeeye's page, while novel, means that at any other resolution (or if somebody has theri browser in a window rather than full-screen) the lower half of the infobox will be different widths than the upper portion. It's probably best to keep everything inside of one table to avoid issues like that.--Fiddler 14:27, 9 April 2006 (PDT)

Snakeeye's page was one of the strangest ones to layout. Was never sure how to approach a reader & wiki friendly layout. --Sagacious 15:51, 9 April 2006 (PDT)

Proposal

I suggest making the showing portrait use the pagename for it's image name rather than the pirate name, to avoid disambiguation issues. Since user pages don't use this template, I don't see the need to rename very many portraits that are already uploaded. The proposed change would be to change [[Image:Pirates-{{{piratename}}}.jpg|{{{piratename}}}]] to [[Image:Pirates-{{PAGENAME}}.jpg|{{{piratename}}}]] --Thunderbird 09:43, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

And if a pirate page were moved, you'd need to re-upload the image. —Sivius(T/C) 09:53, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
This very rarely happens. The only cause I can see for it happening is for disambiguation purposes, in which case you'd need to reupload the image anyway. As I said before, user pages don't use this template, so moving a vanity page to a userpage wouldn't be a problem even with this. --Thunderbird 10:02, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
I see. In my view, that's a good idea. And it wouldn't booch the template. Lets see now... --Sagacious (talk) 10:18, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
