I would like to question the "Arrival of Midnight" section. It seems to deal more with the histories of Sanctioned Insanity and Compass Rose than with Silver Dawn. I wonder if we can summarize what each flag brought to the table at the beginning of "The Formation" section, and take the flag histories to each of those flag's respective pages? (Now that they both exist.) --Feegle 06:43, 25 August 2005 (PDT)

Agreed, implemented. --AtteSmythe

Information I'd like

  • Was I unopposed in my election? That time was so hectic, I can't even remember.
  • When did the alliance with Looterati become official? It was sometime between early April and mid May 04
  • Likewise for NS alliance
  • Likewise for NS split
  • Timeline for MS fallout. After we had Eta, aye?

More as it comes to me...--AtteSmythe

Chi's history of RM has a bunch of stuff from that time in the flag - she has you down as having run unopposed. As to the MS fallout - I believe it was before, because I don't remember hearing anything about them during. Though granted, I was largely unaware of flag politics at the time, being a mere officer. --Feegle 11:00, 9 September 2005 (PDT)
It was definitely before. The deal with MS was a conflict with Nyx's Scions, which split in early June. We didn't get Eta until June 2x. --AtteSmythe

Some ABM stuff.... We were actually just developing our ties with SD after you became monarch, as one several options. We were primarily affiliated with Equinox (the RR-centric alliance) though we had ties both to you guys and to Imperio v. 1.0.

The ABM dissolution was very early April 2004; I have an e-mail from March 31st 2004 from Oro asking the small crew captains to contact myself or her to get their cut of the flag finances.

MS fallout, I'm pretty sure, was well before Eta; I think it was before the blockade release entirely (April 28th), though I could be wrong, just because of the nature of the Nyx offer there. --Varthlokkur 08:02, 9 September 2005 (PDT)

Thanks, Vistr - some of those early, transitional details are fuzzy to me. Between the amount of work I was already doing as a royal (much smaller council, then, and many new to the metagame), and the friendship I had with Oro, Moonchilde, and Spinn, it's a bit difficult for me to remember when actual alliance stuff happened with Loots and AbM. --AtteSmythe 09:10, 9 September 2005 (PDT)

To the Future

Necessary, though it should likely read "Current Events" or "Current State", and be its own top-level header. To the future sounds like a highschool yearbook. ;) --AtteSmythe

Removed, no longer necessary. -Lovelypen

Colonisation Timeline

Tried to take a stab at some of the colonisation stuff, but I wanted to be sure of my order of events. I don't want to imply cause and effect that wasn't there, if at all possible. How close is this? Tried to take a stab at some of the colonisation stuff, but I wanted to be sure of my order of events. I don't want to imply cause and effect that wasn't there, if at all possible. How close is this?

  • Loots take Jorvik (May 1)
  • Disagreement with Midnight Sun over Luthien, with NS as potential allies
  • Alliance with Nyx's Scions
  • NS split (early june)
  • Alliance with WORP (almost immediate)
  • Silver Dawn takes Eta (July 24)
  • Talks with No Homers lead to alliance
  • Founding of RAWR (^^ these two backwards?)
  • Alliance talks with CN, who need to be careful with alliances until after colonisation
  • NH declaration for Luthien
  • Luthien Bay (October 2)
  • Cranberry I-XVIII (I- September 11, II- September 18, III- October 12, IV- October 19, V- October 22)
Filled in a few dates, order of timeline may have to be altered as a result. --Lovelypen
Hmm. Offhand, the Nyx alliance was pre-Jorvik, because we were working with them at Byrne I (the very first blockade) when I got my eyepatch. That puts the MS/NS dispute before then, too, probably in mid-april (since it was after Innocent, CC, and tPR joined in early April). RAWR was initially the name for the triad, and existed before NH joined in, but came after we'd been around for a bit.--Varthlokkur 07:32, 16 September 2005 (PDT)
Nyx split was in May, I think. They split fairly soon after the Turtle I blockade. Featherfin
Agreed. The MS alliance dissolution was directly before the alliance to Nyx b/c we were going to back Midnight Sun before they decided to throw the SD name around like a club and demand (yes, demand) a shoppe in tribute for MS/SD/Loot backing at Luthien I. SD, in an effort to keep our oldest ally (MS) and court our newest ally (it was obvious that Nyx was going to destroy MS at Luthien regardless of our backing b/c our mates were split), began discussions with MS and NS for MS to back down and take Endurance or Nu for a shoppe on Luthien provided by NS...we even sacrificed our promised shoppe on the line in the discussions to give to MS to keep the negotiations continuing. The entire episode blew up in our faces when Midnight Sun said one shoppe wasn't enough and that deserved 2 shoppes "otherwise the mighty SD will come down on you." At this point, the Royalty Council had enough. Alliance dropped, Midnight Sun told to kiss off. Shortly after this, the RC announced our alliance to Nyx's and our backing them for Luthien. I would put this a week or two before Turtle I, well before we ever talked to Greasy, before RAWR. Also, RAWR existed before No Homers was a part, but was formed after Nyx dissolved. I probably have more in my head, but now someone needs to clean this up and make it reader-friendly. Double-F, swoop in here and save me.  ;) -- Quiglin 11:25, 13 June 2006 (PDT)
Hey, I'm loving this stuff. Crank out more info from the depths of your mind, Quiggers. :) I'll edit it all in when I have a decent chunk of time on my hands. --Featherfin 11:30, 13 June 2006 (PDT)
Choosing Eta Island At its inception, the fledgling flag, having merged for colonization purposes, looked to solidify its target, but had no concept of the draw of their ruling philosophy, or the amount of work her constituents were willing to perform in supply coordination and recruitment. The royalty council began polling the members of Silver Dawn looking for the proper target for a budding flag like Silver Dawn. Looking at our current allies, Midnight Sun, Nidata Del Draghi, and Dragon Tears, Silver Dawn looked to settle a smaller arch where our ally network would flourish. The flag finally settled on Nu Island for its resources and prime location in the arch. Neighboring islands were to be held out for our allies either outright or held in trust for them by Silver Dawn. It was during this time that our friendship and subsequent alliance with the Looterati. All of a sudden, the flag was surprised to find itself considered amongst the larger flags on the ocean and quickly becoming a political force on the Midnight Ocean. It was during this time of self-discovery that Nu Island, a large island in its own right, no longer seemed to fit the goals of the flag. A new target for colonization was needed. But, how big are we? Our new friends and allies, the Looterati, were planning on colonizing Jorvik Island in the Ruby Arch, so, it would be convenient to colonize an island near there. Were we big enough to colonize Eta Island, the capital of the archipelago? After much deliberation of the Royalty Council, obversing the amount of room on the island, the lack of true colonization discussion by another flag, and the wood-spawning ability (SD had zero shipyards at the time), the decision to forge a new path into the Ruby Archipelago was set. Okay, Double-F, I believe that's pretty close how we made that decision...maybe if you can grab Atte, he will be able to corroborate. I'll keep digging. -- Quiglin 13:47, 15 June 2006 (PDT)
That's how I remember it. --AtteSmythe 15:11, 15 June 2006 (PDT)

Scallywag War

I am wondering if a new article should be created for that and not just placed as part of your history. -Jacktheblack 03:39, 29 January 2006 (PST)

Yeah, I'd considered that too. Fannon and I were chatting about it earlier. Someone could write it and we could just to it briefly. I did actually create a page called Scallywag War the other day, when I was editing Scallywag Syndicate, for the purpose of filling it out at a later date. I guess it's just a case of working out exactly what happened between each blockade - who spoke to who etc. If you want to start it Jack that'd be great and I can help flesh it out as I've got stuff saved on my computer that can help with the chronology. --Featherfin 06:25, 29 January 2006 (PST)
You can always just have it here until it gets bigger and sorta takes on a life of its own, then move it to Scallywag Wars when the baby's big enough. :) --Guppymomma 07:37, 29 January 2006 (PST)
The other option, which makes the most sense to me, is to have a general entry on the Scallywag War and keep the information on this page specifically about Silver Dawn's involvement, motivation, and so on. --Feegle 07:49, 29 January 2006 (PST)
I have a version of this in progress, and as it is right now it has more information than is directly relevant to Silver Dawn. When I am finished with it I will split it up, putting the SD-relevant stuff here and anything else I have on a page about the whole of the Scallywag War. --Lovelypen 16:03, 29 January 2006 (EST)
I don't mind adding to it, but I fear that if I create it I would not take a NPOV. So if you wish to write a few lines to start it out, atleast in broad terms, I can fill in a number of blank spots. --Jacktheblack 18:10, 6 February 2006 (PST)
Well, you could write it if you really wanted and I could help keep it neutral. That way we keep bias from both sides out. Featherfin 23:56, 6 February 2006 (PST)
Okay at this point I am moving over to the talk of Scallywag War. -Jacktheblack 07:32, 7 February 2006 (PST)

Ermmm...

Anyone else notice that the page seems to have doubled? Halfway down the flag is repeated along with the infobox template and then the government and history all over again. Copy/paste booch? I can fix it when I get some time later. --Muffynz 11:40, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

Fixed. I went back to find the version at which it happened, and confirmed that, at that time, the bottom text was identical to the top. I just cut it out of the most recent version. --AtteSmythe 11:46, 2 June 2006 (PDT)
I'm adding a section to the end about things that have happened this spring (2006) as soon as Atte saves whatever he's doing ;-) I'm getting edit conflicts -Daedalus 11:51, 2 June 2006 (PDT)
Aye, I know you had something there on the end for early 2006 and was going to try and retrieve it. Atte's edit is through and saved so go ahead when you're ready Daed.--Muffynz 11:53, 2 June 2006 (PDT)
OK, it's in. Thanks. -Daedalus 12:02, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

A few suggestions. When Feegle stepped down as Event Planner, Pinkylee was chosen to be Head Event Planner, and Silentwolf unofficially also became Head Event Planner. So could you please put Pinkylee & Silentwolf became Head Event Planners!!! I believe in the Blockades at a Glance, the 7th Blockade incorrectly has it down that we won 4 rounds when we only actually won 3!!! - Silentwolf 14:01, 24 August 2006 (GMT)

I changed how the part about the event planners was written on purpose. The way it was, it sounded like Pinkylee and Silentwolf both joined the office at the same time, when in fact Pinky had been part of the office before Feegle left. So I think it reads better to simply say that Silentwolf filled the vacancy left by Feegle. Hope that makes sense. -Lovelypen 02:04, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
However that makes it sound like SW had only just joined the office, when she was in the office from way way before, I think even before Pinkylee joined the office... - Silentwolf 16:59 (GMT) 25 August 2006
Okay, I made another change. Hopefully that should clear everything up. -Lovelypen 13:01, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

Turbulent Times - Suggestions First of all the time is wrong - it says Aug 2005 - Nov 2004... secondly there is no reference to the Soaring Gulls joining the flag in early Oct 2004 (see Soaring Gulls crew page for details). - Silentwolf 11:33 (GmT) 28 August 2006

Re: Splitting of gov't and history sections

I split off the content of the government and history sections and put them on their own pages, like it's done on Wikipedia, because I thought this page was too long and unwieldy. I put a short summary of each in their places. The history summary could probably be a bit more detailed, but I didn't want to get into specific people in that section. If anyone can add some more stuff while keeping it relatively general, feel free. And of course, specific information should now go on the history page. -Lovelypen 15:44, 27 December 2006 (EST)
