Talk:Shanghai

From YPPedia

We get a lot of questions about how to "trade" or "transfer" shanghais who think that if they buy shanghais, the number in their crew info screen will go up. Where on this page would be the best place to explain what actually happens? --Eurydice 20:33, 31 August 2005 (PDT)

I think a section after Shanghai Use would be good. "Shanghai Trading" or something is what you could label it. --Guppymomma 20:43, 31 August 2005 (PDT)

There's a passive voice usage I'm going to beat with a stick clean up, but to do so, I have to know who's allowed to petition an OM for the rename: Should it be an SO, or any officer? Also, since there's no way for the OM to know whether the captain authorized a rename without speaking to him or her, should we say that the captain has to be on at the time? Or will Ocean Masters rename vessels on an officer's word, and address it if the captain complains, or somesuch? Also, with regards to Zava's last edit, is the &mdash (—) something we don't use? --Emufarmers 20:09, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

We need a petition or verbal say-so from the captain of the crew giving/selling the shanghais. No pressing need to eliminate passive voice from YPPedia, though. --Eurydice 21:39, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

I added the procedure for petitioning for a rename to this page. Previously, there was only a link to the forums, which was causing a lot of petitions from people who had scanned this page but still didn't know what to include in a rename petition. Hopefully this will help. --Eurydice 12:04, 15 June 2006 (PDT)

Crew's Private Statement

In the rules it states that "Only captains may use their crew's shanghai points. If the crew has no captain please name a person who has authorization to use your Shanghai Points in your crew's private statement." Isn't the only one that can update the private statement the captain? I suppose you could temporarily make someone a captain (and have them buy a captains badge) to change the private statement and then they demote themselves again. Struck me a bit odd is all ;-) -- Vorky 18:19, 24 February 2008 (PST)

If a crew is Oligarchic, any SO can propose a change to the private statement. --Thunderbird 18:28, 24 February 2008 (PST)
If so then the private statement article needs to be update to say that. Currently it doesn't ;-) -- Vorky 18:36, 24 February 2008 (PST)
Actually, the crew's articles may be changed by a SO if the crew is either Oligarchic or Democratic. I've made the change to private statement to reflect this. -- Cedarwings (talk) 19:33, 24 February 2008 (PST)
