Talk:River

From YPPedia

Gee, thanks for liking me and all. I didn't create my page, but am flattered someone did. Thanks whomever you are. ~River

I like River and all, but she still doesn't meet the standards for her own page. We've already deleted her page once. --Fannon 08:03, 9 March 2006 (PST)

I was thinking that earlier. Agreed, it should be deleted again. --Sagacious 08:25, 9 March 2006 (PST)
There's a mention of creating a crew at the end of it. However, both her and Phade are SOs, but one of them had to be Captain at one point. Though I'm not sure I'd count being captain for only a few minutes as being notable :P (I have an alt that held the captaincy of a crew while one of my hearties swapped which character she had in it as captain, and I transferred the captain hat back rather quickly). --Thunderbird 08:29, 9 March 2006 (PST)
If I had to guess, I would imagine it was Phade. But I agree with the captain for a few minutes thing. --Fannon 10:14, 9 March 2006 (PST)

You know damn well I didn't create this, the history says so. I edited out some of the more pointless crap in it to in an attempt to make it legitimate, but Hunter made it, along with his own equally pointless page. You want to ream someone for it, take it out on him. Don't drag my name through it just because of stuff that happened in game.--DragonRage 14:24, 9 March 2006 (PST)

Delete This is vanity from all that is shown here. By the way, we are not trying to blame people, only determine whether this should be deleted. --pevarnj

I noticed that there is an octopus familiar in the portrait. If she somehow earned it herself, then she is eligible for her own pirate page.--Zyborg22 15:32, 9 March 2006 (PST)
I think Fannon may be referring to who dropped the 10 doubloons to create the crew with the comment. --Thunderbird 14:32, 9 March 2006 (PST)

River paid half, I paid half. She actually did the creation of the crew, because I didn't feel like Travel Naving enough to get the experience for it to make it. As for meeting the guidelines, she does own the first player owned (and one of the more popular) inns on Sage. If that doesn't qualify, then you really need to prune half the people on the pirate lists of various oceans. There are a few events she's run on Sage that should probably be added, and I'll just have to bite the bullet and completely rewrite what Hunter wrote, but I think as far as players on Sage go, River is fairly well known.--DragonRage 14:39, 9 March 2006 (PST)

Will someone check into the familiar? --pevarnj (t/c) User Template 16:36, 9 March 2006 (PST)
Several searches on the Wiki found no Octopi with the owner River. I'm thinking it was borrowed for the portrait. I also tried searches for just 'River Octopus' and nothing came up. --Sagacious 17:08, 9 March 2006 (PST)
I wrote her page (Hunter) because she was pretty well-known, and was a big help in the Flag with GWTF. And she does own the Isle of Kent inn. I couldnt add much on that page only because I didnt know everything she has done. Shame me. Just because she wasnt a Captain doesnt mean she cant have her own page? I understand that a Captain would be a good reason to have a page though. And she has done a handful of events in the Ocean, which Phade has already said. Like raising 1.3 million poe for the Flag in an Auction hmmm --Hunter
The octopi on her shoulder was lent to her by Silverdawg. I believe she also has a pic with Zava's (which Shur gave Zava for coming in second in the sailing bakeoff.). I don't recall "being a Captain" really being a requirement, as there are plenty of people who are well known that either hold a lesser rank, or who go crewless. A noteable example being myself. =P--DragonRage 17:24, 9 March 2006 (PST)
Basically the familiar was going to be the only reason she could have her own page. Although some of her achievements are impressive, I don't think they are worthy of a fame page. This information should be placed on the User page. --Sagacious 17:27, 9 March 2006 (PST)

Lol, why don't you just ask me? This third person thing is so dehumanizing. The familiar is Silver's. I didn't ASK Hunter for this! ZOMG, it's not fun to read at all. =P

Where does it say she has to own a Familiar to have her own page? You people are just making up stupid shit so you don't have to admit you're wrong now. But, if I have to buy her a friggin' familiar to knock you off your proverbial high horse, then that's what it has to be. I could pick out an assload of people without familiars that have their own page though.--DragonRage 18:07, 9 March 2006 (PST)
That comment was out of order. It says that there has to be a reason for having a fame page Here! --Sagacious 18:32, 9 March 2006 (PST)
Policies state that only notable pirates can have pages. Examples of notability: current/former Captain/Monarch, familiar winner (not owner), island designer. Other things are a possibility, since you can't account for everything. The main issue here is whether there's anything notable. --Thunderbird 18:37, 9 March 2006 (PST)
Annnnnd it doesn't say that reason has to be owning a familiar. It says other articles may be included, and it isn't limited to those lists. But that list does say that Captaincy automatically makes you noteworthy, and River was a Captain at least once, and possibly twice depending on whether Hunter actually gave her the hat. So she has good reason, according to the very article you linked to, and due to her overall fame (from events and shoppe/inn ownership) within the Sage ocean. (EDIT) And Zava didn't "win" her familiar. So I guess hers doesn't count either.--DragonRage 18:41, 9 March 2006 (PST)
Zava was awarded her familiar as part of a prize. Technically she won it. Please stop this petty picking at the guidelines. The fact is that this article doesn't fall within the guidelines - end of. --Sagacious 18:50, 9 March 2006 (PST)
Zava got hers from Shuranthae, who won it. =P And River is now officially Captain of the Happy Sunshine Brigade. So now everything is settled. She's a one-and-only Captain, in addition to her other merits.--DragonRage 18:52, 9 March 2006 (PST)

Moot

The vanity issue is now moot. River is a captain of a crew. I'll leave the vanity tag up for another 24 hours and then remove it. In the meantime, I recommend people take a deep breath and step away from their keyboards for a bit. There's no need for accusations and name-calling. --Barrister 19:01, 9 March 2006 (PST)
