Talk:PoEmail

From YPPedia

I wonder...You don't suppose we should have a new category, like Category:Marketing, to cover promotions and such? I'm finding some of them hard to categorize, and I'm unsure how to tag images of the PoEmails. --Emufarmers 21:13, 22 June 2006 (PDT)

There are two versions of the 2nd PoEmail. --Sagacious (talk) 22:24, 22 June 2006 (PDT)

Verification

The footer reference, IMO, should be removed. Checking the From: address is already weak sauce; the footer would be trivial to reproduce. --AtteSmythe 09:01, 23 June 2006 (PDT)

Isn't it better to have more methods of verification? Or would that just be lulling people into a false sense of security if it's easily replicated? --Emufarmers 09:33, 23 June 2006 (PDT)
Exactly. It's always better to have more methods of verification, but checking the contents of the email is not verification unless the scammer/phisher is very sloppy. That is, if the email does not have the footer footer, it is verification that the email is not from OOO, but having the footer is not verification that it IS from OOO. --AtteSmythe 09:37, 23 June 2006 (PDT)
Jah, the fact the footer might be missing could indicate a fake. I think the fact we have this page anyway is verification enough. --Sagacious (talk) 09:43, 23 June 2006 (PDT)
Although the 1000 PoE giveaway email originally requested a password, Liz removed that soon after. I believe the policy now is never to request passwords for giveaways etc. --Sagacious (talk) 09:48, 23 June 2006 (PDT)
Eh? As I recall, it was a link to here, which asked for your username and password. How did they change it not to require that information? --Emufarmers 09:51, 23 June 2006 (PDT)
Ah, I tried changing the url...So it asks for the username and email address only? --Emufarmers 09:53, 23 June 2006 (PDT)
Yes. Liz changed it with an update to that specific login page about a day after the email was released. --Sagacious (talk) 10:14, 23 June 2006 (PDT)

Formatting

Took a stab at a somewhat-easier-to-maintain version of the page, notably the gallery. Please feel free to switch it back if the table format was highly preferable. --AtteSmythe 09:57, 23 June 2006 (PDT)

I like the gallery format, along with the thumbnails. We won't really have a choice in a few months, anyway, because the number of mails will keep growing—probably more quickly than we'll be able to add text, leaving columns of thumbnails with lots of empty space in the middle. --Emufarmers 10:01, 23 June 2006 (PDT)

Links for special offers

It's been requested that we not add the specific links for special offers to this page (or anywhere in the wiki). I'm guessing it screws up the marketing tracking or whatnot to get the link from anything but the PoEmail and it's best to allow folks to get the links from the official sources to not encourage them to accept links from publically editable sources just as a security precaution. Thanks for cooperating with this. --Guppymomma 21:46, 22 July 2006 (PDT)

No problem (it wasn't a "specific" link as much as a "form" link for verification, but fair enough). My only real concern is that this might make it difficult for those who never got the newsletters to claim the rewawrds, but that's up to OOO, after all. I'll keep that in mind for any other links from official sources (for the refer a friend button ingame, etc.). --Emufarmers 22:17, 22 July 2006 (PDT)
The rewards are meant to be *only* for those on the e-mail list as exclusive offers, at least to my understanding. --Lizthegrey 23:44, 22 July 2006 (PDT)

How to suscribe to a news letter

It should say how to suscribe to the newsletter if it does say how too and i missed it please correct me

This is now done Tharjoe 23:11, 26 September 2007 (PDT)

ryldd: i agree, it needs to say how to subscribe.

Yes, please! How DO you subscribe? I'm itching for my free PoE! --FireOpal

Hoya, piratey mates! According to some forum research I've conducted, it's apparent that you receive a PoEmail via the email that you registered with. However, I've been a pirate est. June 2006, and have not received any sort of edition. This causes me doubt... could someone bring me truth? --FireOpal

Try asking in Technical Issues or Tips & Tricks. It may be that it's getting filtered as spam. Or OOO hasn't sent an updated list to the company that does PoEmail lately. Anyhow, it's a forum question if you want to see if a Ringer can clarify for you. --Guppymomma 14:31, 13 July 2007 (PDT)

Actually, I failed to mention that I already did ask, and advice came pooling in and I thought I was golden. Well, the 12th Edition has just been released, and I didn't receive it. I know my odds of getting the attention of a Dread/Ringer is pretty miniscule, so I'm wondering if it really is my account that's the problem, not the system. Anyway, I desperately posted again on the Tips & Tricks forum.... and my SpamGuard is on, but my spam always goes to my Bulk. I'll be on the watch. Thanks for the upping, Guppymomma. --FireOpal

Update: August 6, 2007 :: Good news! Dionysus just contacted me via email (a forum poster suggested I contact the support center at OOO), saying that I had been re-added to the mailing list. I'll give them notie when I get the 13th Edition. I'm just glad I got the record straight. Thanks to all who helped out on my desperate PoEmail quest!! --FireOpal

Old PoEmails

I've jes' noticed I've still got three old mails - Arrmageddon (Oct 29th), Harvest Thanks (Nov 26th) and Yo ho ho Santa Rampage (Dec 24), is it worth adding the images of these to the gallery?--Vurogj 07:22, 13 September 2007 (PDT)

Alternatively, I could be very stupid and forget how to read, or what a link looks like. And many other things too. :D--Vurogj 07:25, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
