Talk:Parrots of Vengeance

From YPPedia

to all those that want to change this article, engage your brain for a minute and think this through. yes there are a number of fictious bits in the story, but i don't think thats such a problem in a fictious world. for exapmle there are no toaster in pp. quite true but does it matter?!? Second, this is for a crew compitition, with the aim being to finish off the story. so an incentive for my cabin peoples to subscribe etc. thirdly what harm is it doing? nothing not one iota. so why change it? there are plenty of other crews with similar stories and fictious bits in thier discription. Plus i'm the captain of the crew so it can't possibly be an issue for me. whats the problem?!

While you may be the captain of the crew, this article is for public use, not personal use. If what you want is a page that you have complete control over, I suggest you start your own web page. As for other crews having fictitious bits, point us to them and they will be edited just as this was. --Fannon 09:24, 8 March 2006 (PST)
Indeed, we try to edit out as much fiction as we find. There are such a vast number of articles on the wiki that it is near impossible to find them all. Doing things like this is purely to keep the wiki at a consistant quality level. --Sagacious 09:28, 8 March 2006 (PST)

fair enough but if i change it to crew mythology, then it is encyclopedic in nature and can be in wiki. hey i'll even take the toaster out - Mugford

The issue isn't only the use of the word toaster. It is not a factual bit of writing. Adding it again with or without the toaster in will mean it still gets removed. Like we have mentioned before, find somewhere else to put it. If the competition you mentioned is an organised one, it will have an entries section somewhere on the forums. --Sagacious 09:35, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Ok fair enough it seems that Fiddler was the only one seeing through the mist. I appologise for my part, just got annoyed when my article was being edited striaght away, and got a bit carried away. Also I kept adding the article because I didn't know that it was being edited. I'm quite new to this. Sorry to all involved, I'm sure you're all throughly good pirates. So, where can we reach consensus? My idea was to add some history and depth to the crew, a legend if you will, which was humourous and entertaining with the help of the crew. I understand that this site is encyclopedic, but can't we add a finished article, say in a week, under 'Legend of the Crew'? I propose that this is different from a thread in the forum because it will not change and thus after it is finished, would be happy to leave the page after that without editting it again. (i.e. feel free to lock it). I'm trying desperatly to engage my crew and allowing them to write a bit of the (pre-formation) history seemed like a good idea. open to other ideas, but this is such agreat idea, can't we come to some kind of an agreement? --Mugford

By all means add history about the crew - but make it proper in-game history that isn't made up. If you want to add fun or humourous information about your crew for the members to see, I suggest creating your own site to put it on. Although your reasons for wanting to put information like that on the crew wiki page are perfectly reasonable, they don't fit with the standard of the YPPedia. Usually, putting a copy of the crew's public statement on its wiki page is acceptable. --Sagacious 11:16, 8 March 2006 (PST)

ok, so i'll put the crews public statement in and a link somewhere else for the legend. now thats agreed, please can we unlock the site? (if anyone else has anything to add to that please still elt me know.) --Mugford also can you notify me when its unlocked? Many thanks --Mugford

Since an air of calm seems to have been reached, I'm going to unlock the page. If another frenzy ensues though, I'll lock it again until more discussion can be had here. While misunderstandings occur and this isn't the first article to need a temporary lock for discussion, we're always glad to get new folks interested in contributing to the wiki. --Guppymomma 11:59, 8 March 2006 (PST)
We have so far not come to the conclusion on whether that image breeches copyright or not. I believe it does. Discussion --Sagacious 12:27, 8 March 2006 (PST)

This page has seen quite enough editting for the time being. I'll unlock it tomorrow. For now, if there are content discrepencies/ edits to be made, please note them here. The edit war on this page needs to end. --Fannon 17:07, 8 March 2006 (PST)

I think it has ended. I booched my final edits slightly :-s --Sagacious 17:08, 8 March 2006 (PST)

To all involved might want to visit http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=32915&offset=0 and read and perhaps add an opinion mugford

I said I would open the page back up today, but I don't see that as being a wise decision. As it stands, there is still no consensus on the subject at hand, and unprotecting it at this point will only encourage another edit war. If an agreement can be reached between the conflicting sides, then an admin will unprotect the page. Again, if you have content you would like to add/edit, please discuss them here for the time being. --Fannon 11:27, 9 March 2006 (PST)

Ok lets meet half way perhaps - i suggest a title 'crew mythology' with disclaimer (which ye can right if ye like), and being no longer than 200 words. After this you can lock that section perminatly. how would that be? mugford 12:42 10 March 2006 (GMT)

No, it won't work. A major problem with crew mythology in main articles is that it's recalled by the Search function, and is this disruptive.
Hmm. How about letting him put up a crew mythology in the Art: namespace and link to it from the article? Best of both worlds.

I'd be happy with that, just let me know if you go ahead with that idea. mugford 23:58 10 March 2006 (GMT)

can someone unlock the page please! would like to add an improved link to the webpage. not going to start an edit war etc, theres more to life! too busy doing the new webpage anyway mugford

Unprotected. --Fiddler 11:08, 14 March 2006 (PST)
What do we do about the disputed image? --Sagacious 11:11, 14 March 2006 (PST)
Seperate issue. It can stay here for the moment, as there may be validity to the usage.--Fiddler 11:37, 14 March 2006 (PST)
