How about a redirect to lazing instead? --Zava 06:57, 19 May 2006 (PDT)

- Isn't this still just an unnecessary plural redirect, then? --Emufarmers 19:47, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
- "Unnecessary"? There's no such thing as an unnecessary redirect, provided it's a reasonable redirect (I.E: "Clam Chowder" redirecting to "The Vatican City" would be unnecessary) and it doesn't conflict with a legitimate usage (If there was a flag or crew called Lazers, for example.) But since neither of these seems to be the case, I say the more the merrier. Doesn't hurt anyone, and even if only one or two people use it over the lifetime of the page, that's one or two people who's wiki experience has been that much peachier. --Ponytailguy 20:49, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
- Well, I was under the impression that we generally didn't do redirects from plurals unless the word happens to change forms in the plural (apothicary, apothicaries, et al.). I mean, I don't see anything directly wrong with it either (I guess there could be issues with redirects cluttering up searches); I'd just thought that as a matter of policy, we didn't make a plural redirect for words whose plural form just adds an "s." --Emufarmers 20:58, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
- Why wouldn't we? Can you link me to this policy? --Ponytailguy 21:12, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
- Er...Well, I can't link you to anything saying, "plain 's' redirects should not be used" (I recall hearing something roughly to that effect in a talk page somewhere), but the bit about it from the page on redirects seems to sort of state that. The linked-to Wikipedia page, after a bit of digging, sort of seems to indicate that plurals should generally only be redirects if they have a non-"s" ending, but I guess it is pretty subjective and context-sensitive. --Emufarmers 21:35, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
- There was previous resistance to redirects for plurals for the sake of links. However, with the templates categorizing the redirects and the realization that there are some terms people will try to search for in plural format, there have been fewer picket signs over the plural redirects. I believe this redirect should stay for the sake of greenies doing a search because someone on a ship shouted about lazers and didn't mean the beam kind. The biggest rule for redirects is to just try to use a little common sense and ponder it. Or discuss it like has been done here if you don't come to a conclusion you're comfortable with. --Guppymomma 22:07, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
