Talk:Kraken

From YPPedia

Suggested changes

Under "The Kraken" this sentence contains duplication: "Pirates can pick up pick up chests, eggs, and ink by navigating their rowboats over these treasure spots."

Under "Lifeboats" is the first occurrence of the term "lifeboat", so it should be wikilinked to the Lifeboat article. (Wikipedia policy would be to wikilink the first occurrence in text, skipping the one in the section heading, and I think that's the best way to do it here.)

Under "Rowboat Classes", there's a paragraph that reads:

As indicated in the table above, some rowboats are restricted from carrying certain types of treasure at all. For example, the Harpoon boat can carry ink, but not treasure chests.

There are only two examples, so it would be more useful to spell them out (for people who are intimidated by the chart). I would change the second sentence to: "Specifically, the Harpoon boat can carry ink, but not treasure chests, and the Powder boat cannot carry either."

Under "Special Shots", the chart entry for the powder keg states: "Anything running over a powder keg, including tentacles or rowboats will be blown up and sunk." As a minor point, there should be a comma after "rowboats". Substantively, the way real-life powder behaves is that a powder keg can explode only once, so that once a rowboat or tentacle triggers it, it's not there any more. If that's the way they work in YPP (I haven't done a KH yet), it might be useful to spell that out. In some games there are some types of hazards that persist even after claiming one victim.

Since this page transcludes Official:Kraken, these suggestions apply to that article. They're all good suggestions though. I've fixed the "pick up pick up", but it's up to the ringers if they want to add the rest. We could certainly start a separate article here and include these ideas though! --Therobotdude 01:28, 1 August 2014 (PDT)

trophies

We need to make an actual non-official article (just as we did for the other sea monster hunts) so that we can track the trophies awarded from this new one. -- Franklincain (t/c) 21:44, 1 August 2014 (PDT)

booty division

Kraken encounters do not use any of the usual terms. Since all chests awarded in kraken encounters use the exact same term (which is specific to just kraken encounters), we should document that in this article. I didn't write it down, and I don't recall the term at the moment (as I'm writing this), otherwise I'd go ahead and list it here.

Also, I have yet to determine what criteria (or sets of criteria, more likely) are used for these awards. Based on past encounters, I'm presuming these criteria involve one or more of the following:

  • Killing tentacles
  • Sinking the kraken's head
  • Harvestig kraken eggs

Hopefully, others will be more successful in data-mining these criteria. Thanks! -- Franklincain (t/c) 11:59, 9 August 2014 (PDT)

I believe the term used in the game is "Kraken entanglement". I didn't add any info about it in this article because I don't know exactly what counts towards it and what doesn't. Mobyduck2 12:56, 9 August 2014 (PDT)
Actually, in previous Kraken versions, I remember the use of Chum, Tentacles sunks, Angry Kraken (or something like that), Ink collected.. These were counted in the booty division... Now, apparently, as you said, it only shows as Kraken Entanglement... User:Gunnerfreak 09:09 EST

Defendacles and tentacles

Today, while trying to bomb the Kraken, I noticed that the defendacles can turn around on the spot, as if they were using a special turn token. Can anyone else confirm this as being true?

Something else I noticed, but am not sure, is that small tentacles (and maybe bigger ones) get stunned after being hit with a harpoon, stopping them from moving for the remainder of the turn. Anyone else noticed something similar? Mobyduck2 08:50, 12 August 2014 (PDT)
