Talk:Flag Position Template

From YPPedia

Usage

I'm really not sure I approve of this implementation. We have a "|rank=" modifier in the {{infobox pirate}} (Usage) template that isn't used for half the pirate pages for the simple reason that its dynamic; or ever changing. Anything that is deemed "current" is essentially outdated as soon as the pirate crew-hops this making it that much more difficult in keeping things up to date. Just my two cents. -- Haywoodx(t/c) 21:57, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Psst: {{Rank box}} (Usage). Specifically, the |title= parameter. --Belthazar451 22:12, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

THis hurts! It took me a long time to finaly get it to look just right! -Skunkbeard9

Sorry. Granted, the rank box template can't do multiple pirates, but as Heywood said above, you can use the |rank= parameter of the pirate infobox as well - entering "monarch" or even "governor" as the value in place of "senior officer" or whatever works as it ought. --Belthazar451 01:32, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
My point has nothing to do with the method of conveying such information but how quickly it becomes "stale" information. Use at your own discretion, just know that if a particular pirate isnt updating their own page, they may never do so. Implementation only on your own pirate pages should be suggested; else contributors will have something else to waste time on keeping current.-- Haywoodx(t/c) 01:40, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
I am a vary active user and i edit my page almost daily! I also edit freind's to keep them up to date

At best, this page is woefully misnamed. There's no actual template involved; it's just instructions on how to cut and paste some code when using {{infobox pirate}} (Usage). This should either be converted to a wiki template, or the page should be renamed. (As an aside, there's no good reason for Flag Position Template to be capitalized.) --Barrister 23:00, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

You do know the YPPedia has pretty templates to make the background colours, don't you? Here's an example, the code

<div style="background-color: #D5EBFF; border:1px solid #0047AB; width:174px; margin-bottom:3px; text-align:center;"> Cobalt </div>

produces

Cobalt

However, I can replace all of the colour information with {{Background Cobalt}} (Usage) - this gives me the code

<div style="{{Background Cobalt}} width:174px; margin-bottom:3px; text-align:center;"> Cobalt </div>

which produces

Cobalt

That is, exactly the same thing, with the added advantage that if the colour schemes get changed, your thing will change with it. --Belthazar451 01:10, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
