The Sinking
Eight days after the launching of the Sunset, another million pillage was planned for, this time with a goal of 2 million on a yellow route. These routes are harder since a crew is outnumbered in a battle to a large extent but the payout potential is also higher, which was hoped to help get to the 2 million goal faster. At this time it was the practice of League of Light to declare war on obscure flags for various reasons, leaving several of these war declarations open though never returned for weeks even months. Plans for the blockade of Scrimshaw Island were underway and so many war frigates were being floated from Caravensari to Scrimshaw.
As the Sunset sailed, filled with over 100+ jobbers between Descartes Isle and Kashgar Island a dark conspiracy was being planned. Using one of the crews with an open war declare on League of Light several members of other flags led by an alt by the name of Eyesinkjoo began to hunt down some of the floating ships. A sloop at first sinking a war frigate would be the beginning. Unaware of both the war declaration being returned and events taking place, Everclearboy continued on with the voyage. The chatter on such ships along with pillage breaks allowed not only the navigator a chance to step away but others as well, would cause the main source of trouble.
Little did Everclearboy and the crew know however they were being spied on. Using alts to board the Sierra Sunset to locate its exact position, Eyesinkjoo assembled a hunter crew made up of alts and players from Les Aristocrates, Hardcore Explorers, Candy Coated Chaos, and Armed Cocktail Party to name a few. Loading up a war brig, they headed toward the location they knew the Sunset was at. Fair Winds had never been selective with its jobbers to this point. Preferring not to take the elitest attitude and offer the chance for anyone of any level a chance to make good money as long as they worked hard and weren't obnoxious to fellow players. During a particularly long battle with a brigand that began to run around the entire sea battle board, jobbers began to leave and the numbers aboard dwindled, but the spy remained, as troubles with sails became apparent with chasing the brigand. The lack of moves got the Sunset hit more then a few times towards the end. With this knowledge the hunter war brig waited for the end of the Swordfight to engage, knowing with the damage and dropping number of jobbers that the ship was in trouble.
Only moments before the battle began Everclearboy caught the word over flag officer chat that League of Light floater ships were being attacked and sunk. With a decent amount of damage remaining from the brigand battle, the war brig and Sunset exchanged volleys but it was damage that a grand frigate loaded with average to green players could just not repair quickly enough, while the group of ultimate standing players and such on the war brig had no troubles handling the hits. As the same troubles getting sail power before became an issue, the Sunset wasn't able to handle trading any further shots or maneuver to avoid and the ship was sunk. All of its jobbers were sent dockside with fishes but no pay. For hours they and others had worked towards the goal of 2 million only to be lost with no way to tell who should and shouldn't be paid, let alone for how much compared to others.
Following a long inquiry into the fairness of Eyesinkjoo's actions the matter was resolved by the Ocean Masters. Funds were raised to buy a new grand frigate and more gold paint was collected thanks to the help of Lipsy and Sashamorning. Within a few weeks the Sierra Sunset was reborn and would come to be used in other attempts to hit over a million PoE. However the attitude toward jobber hirings for such trips would never be the same and a friendly innocence was lost. Vengeance would come the following day as Fair Winds planned a war frigate pillage on the Sierra Sunrise. Many of the same people from the original hunter ship gathered to bring about the same fate to the Sunrise as befell the Sunset. However being far more alert to such actions several flag members and hearties boarded the Sunrise ready to defend. The subsequent sea battle and Swordfight between the war frigate and war brig crushed their plans as the Sunrise was victorious.
