2023 Design Easter Eggs
EGGS, EGGS, EGGS! It's always a good time to design EGGS! We need you to create the most awesome Eggs you can for them to become furniture items in the game.
If yours is one of the winning designs chosen, your prizes are:
- Your design created as a bit of in-game furniture
- A couple of eggs in your design on the ocean of your choosing on the winning account
- The awesome Gilded Egg trophy, if you don't already have it
The deadline for submitting your entries is Thursday, March 2nd, 2023, at 11:59 PM game time. Go forth and lay eggs!
Entry thread
- Upload your design in the entry page!
==>> Winners announced!
Rules
- The uploaded image file name must include your pirate name and ocean; the egg's name is your choice. Example file name: EGG_2023-Clotho-Cerulean-Design_Name
- Images must be 256 x 256 pixels
- Images must be in .png format
- You can submit up to 8 designs
- Upload the flat square that will be rendered onto an egg shape, not the finished egg-shaped design. You can upload the rendered eggs as an extra, but those don't count for judging.
- The design must be your original work - you have to create the design yourself. References to copyrighted intellectual properties should be excluded from the entries.
- You may use reference materials for your work, but please acknowledge it in your post if you base your work substantially on that reference.
- You do not need to acknowledge any game art used as reference material.
Basic guidelines
- Your design should be able to 'wrap' - this means that the two sides of the design should join up seamlessly with no discontinuity where the two sides meet. Test this by laying two copies of your design side by side and checking if it has an unsightly seam running down the egg. Please note that while we encourage artists to present seamless designs, a seam is acceptable if the egg looks good when rendered. If you cannot make a seamless design, no matter how hard you try, submit the entry anyway if you feel your design is good!
- Remember the shape-changing effect of putting your design around an egg. A design that looks sensible in a square template could look strange on the final egg model. Keep in mind that your design may be rotated for the final egg.
- The scene also burns out the details, so make the whole thing slightly darker than you would think. Slightly!
- Keep it simple. The design has to work on a relatively small object; make sure your design shines through.
- This YPPedia page shows the winning Easter eggs since 2006.

Rendering!
- If you want a copy of the basic egg mesh file, it's linked from Egg#Competition_files. You can use this if you wish to test your design and have a 3D modeling program. Note that you do not need to do this to enter - just if you want to try it out yourself.
- If you're keen to test it, there are easy downloads of 30 days free trial versions of some 3D modeling software (e.g., 3D studio max or Blender).
- Quick instructions on how to get the correct viewpoint for the eggs for those of you also playing with 3DS Max: use the camera angle and render at 640x480.
Rendering will likely be done via Discord, the same as last year. The Discord channel is here: https://discord.gg/AwQeDtqn
The link to the basic egg mesh file does not work. If you need a copy, please DM Greyladyy on Discord with your email address, and I can send it to you. I haven't found a good place to host the file yet.

If there are updated instructions I should link or other helpful tutorials I may have missed, I'll be happy to add them. Thanks again to those who have helped in the past with rendering and YPPedia pages and those who (I hope!) will do so this year; thanks in advance. This Eggomelet wouldn't be the same without you all!
