Housing Floorplan Data

How are we going to go about getting this? I've got a cabin and bungalow on Ice, and have access to a row house (all left-facing). --Thunderbird 18:00, 16 October 2005 (PDT)

I'm actually waiting for the image thing to be fixed first. It's really not going to work if only a few of the tiles at a time show up. It's really a pain to get the data. I did the two shacks and one of the bungalows (whatever the walkup used to be). This was using roommate/owner privs and a broken crate to test every square and a small painting to test every wall column. I'll dig up the link for what I've done already tomorrow. --Guppymomma 21:40, 16 October 2005 (PDT)
I've done a floorplan for the right-facing cottage, but I have no idea where you actually want me to put it. Also, I only had a festive fir to test the garden, so I hope that isn't off any.--Zyborg22 18:05, 24 March 2006 (PST)
Niftyroo. I like your idea for doing the arrows as numbers. When I return from my wiki vacation, I'll upload the fiftybazillion graphics for this so we can figure out how to make nice floorplan thingees. Thanks! --Guppymomma 04:26, 25 March 2006 (PST)

Exterior Pictures

I added right and left facing shacks.. Kinda stuck the images on the page, but there's got to be a better way. I couldnt decipher the way images were added on the sides of the housing pages, so I used the way Yaten added images to the war frigate page. If someone can show me how it should be, I'll do the rest of the housing exteriors. Zava 21:10, 6 December 2005 (PST)

Yay! A volunteer! So hit edit on Rooms & Furnishings or whatever the heck that link is and then use {{house room 2|1=Exterior|image=Left-blah_exterior.png}} Thanks! --Guppymomma 21:25, 6 December 2005 (PST)
Oh that does look better. :) It takes up alot of vertical space... and there's no real information to put on the left to justify that, is there? Where will the minimap view go? Zava 21:35, 6 December 2005 (PST)

Islands

I'm working on replacing the missing Cobalt island pictures. To be clear, we want them all to have ocean around them, right? --Barrister 16:05, 5 February 2006 (PST)

Yes, ocean pretty. Blue good. --Guppymomma 07:22, 6 February 2006 (PST)
I can't quite get Eta, Jorvik and Zeta images without losing the edges. Anyone on a PC have Wonderful Icon or another screen stretcher? --Barrister 11:53, 12 February 2006 (PST)
Yep, I'll grab them later today. --Yaten talk 11:57, 12 February 2006 (PST)
I'll be able to get all the jumbo-size islands myself. Turns out that the Mac support for large screens works just fine. I have no idea when it changed, but it's probably been a while. Go figure. --Barrister 15:28, 27 February 2006 (PST)

No one has stepped up to put the remaining Viridian images online. All the islands with buildings are done, but there are numerous uncolonized islands that still need images. Would anyone object if I simply uploaded the Cobalt-equivalent images in their place? --Barrister 17:40, 9 April 2006 (PDT)

If no one notices, you could get away with claiming that you spent alot of time gathering the extra images ;-) --Sagacious 17:51, 9 April 2006 (PDT)
I'm quite sure that'd be fine. They'd better be identical anyway, otherwise you know there will be tarting about how one ocean gets a Havoc with more lava, or something. --Rixation 07:04, 10 April 2006 (PDT)
I've reverted Zyborg22's edit because we still need numerous images with Sage and Viridian ocean backgrounds. --Barrister 10:15, 10 April 2006 (PDT)

Teaming Images

I have added a couple of images to the Teaming article. That may not be sufficient, so I'm leaving it on the wish list. It may be wise to combine both of the captions into one of the images and delete the other, but I'm not quite sure about that.--Zyborg22 17:27, 11 February 2006 (PST)

Tutorials

Under tutorials, it says a tutorial for user pages. Is there a page I could use to make one? --pevarnj (t/c) Look at this! 12:12, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Go for something in the YPPedia namespace like uhmmm YPPedia:User pages and tag it with hmmm should we start a new tutorial category so folks don't get confused if they're only looking for YPP ones? How about Category:Wiki tutorials? --Guppymomma 12:25, 8 March 2006 (PST)
Already Category:Help --pevarnj (t/c) Look at this! 12:28, 8 March 2006 (PST)
An additional wiki tutorials category wouldn't hurt if it had sorta stepwise howto kinds of information. --Guppymomma 12:36, 8 March 2006 (PST)

One of the items listed is redoing Master and Commander. If this hasn't been started by mid May, I'll do it. I already have a full set of officier training lessons on me website, and was planning to rewrite them fer YPPedia, removing the crew-specific parts. Lordkalvan --Tcarr 05:29, 24 March 2006 (PST)

I didn't do this in May because Amberyl had already done it (Master and Commander (tutorial)) --Tcarr 07:19, 14 August 2006 (PDT)

Couldn't we just edit Wikipedia's tutorials to use as YPPedia's tutorials? It would be easier than writing a whole new tutorial, and I might have seen it done with some of the guidelines. I have found what may be a good tutorial for Creating pages, and other tutorials may be found at Wikipedia:Help:Contents. Of course, we might want to edit them sufficiently to avoid plagurism (if it applies here).--Zyborg22 11:51, 24 March 2006 (PST)

Dock Screenshot

Would this screenshot work as an example of the various outline colors? Edit at will, or let me know what you'd like changed - the only way I could get all 5 colors on one screen was to abandon a boat. (And yeah - I've had this a while. Forgot about it. :/ ) --Zava 12:33, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Uhm, are you meaning to paste a link in there? :) I'm guessing that it would because then we could also mention what an abandoned at sea vessel looks like too, so it would be even more useful. --Guppymomma 12:37, 8 March 2006 (PST)
Some days, I should just stay in bed. Try this: [1] --Zava 12:47, 8 March 2006 (PST)
Oooo it even has a locked vessel! Yes, I think that's a very good illustrative screenshot. --Guppymomma 12:52, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Master and Commander

I'm going to start working on revising the Master and Commander tutorial. Do we want to change Master and Commander to a disambig, or do we want a different title? --pevarnj (t/c) 13:35, 26 March 2006 (PST)

I'm just going to change it to a disambig. --pevarnj (t/c) 11:42, 28 March 2006 (PST)

Misc items

Usage links now all work - thanks to a little tweak I did and PTG's usage templates. I think that the bit on replacing the words Outpost, Medium and Large - after a previous attempt - it was decided the icons didn't make it clear what size the island was - and might confuse new wiki viewers. Should that bit be done away with or are we still pushing for replacement icons? --Sagacious (talk) 17:36, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

I'm not sure which instances of outpost, medium, and large you're referring to. That being said, I have no plans to (a) change the existing icons, or (b) remove the words "outpost" etc. from the ocean pages (e.g., Hunter Ocean). --Barrister 22:00, 21 May 2006 (PDT)
This was the test change I was referring to. --Sagacious (talk) 00:36, 22 May 2006 (PDT)
Ah, okay. That idea went over like a lead balloon. I'll take it out of the wishlist if it's not already gone by the time I post this. --Barrister 05:47, 22 May 2006 (PDT)

XML files for islands/houses

As per a post I'm just now reading[2], Padore mentioned it'd be nice to have the XML files available for download on the wiki for houses (though I'm thinking it could be expanded to include islands and other buildings). I worked on this a while ago (last October, it seems), but I haven't done anything since. Basically, using the index.php? code with &action=raw (such as http://www.puzzlepirates.com/wiki/index.php?title=User:Yaten/sandbox3.xml&action=raw seems to give a user the option to save the XML file (if the user realizes to save the file with a .xml extension, not .png). I'm thinking the ever-changing natures of islands might make this more of an hindrance than a help, but any thoughts on implementing it for houses? --Yaten talk 06:47, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

I think it'd be very cool to have the house XML files available. This'll help encourage folks to explore the island editor and stuff. Probably just a good set of instructions along with the raw linkies on a page like XML files for houses would work. --Guppymomma 07:34, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
Ooo, shiny. Maybe ships too? Shops don't get tricked out so much, but ships do. Very willing to help if you want a hand. I've got one of everything on Sage. --Zava 07:39, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
Okay, so I've taken the first steps to do this, but there's a minor problem: I can't seem to get Cedricshock's converter to work anymore. I'm thinking a change in-game may have affected the way it handles files, because the file that is created is blank. Either way, I can only upload the XMLs I currently have. My collection is far from complete. :/ --Yaten talk 10:05, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

Re: YPPedia:Wishlist#YPPediazation of Forum Things

I actually created a category for the Azumanga! MIDNIGHT and The Weekly Cobaltian pages, although it didn't get beyond that. Whoever takes this up can use that category, or perhaps make a sub-category, Category:Comics or such, if need be. --Emufarmers 18:39, 3 July 2006 (PDT)

Images - Housing

Have anyone done this yet? If not, how much is to be showed besides the house? (Yes, if noone else have done it, I will) --Kinocha 15:54, 21 July 2006 (PDT)

I don't think it has been done, but I don't see a use for the mini versions anymore. --Sagacious (talk) 16:08, 21 July 2006 (PDT)
If there is no use for them, why are they still on the list? --Kinocha 16:10, 21 July 2006 (PDT)
Well I've only recently reworked the image sections of the housing pages. This request has been here for a while, but since I don't know the original purpose for them - I don't know whether it should be erased or not. --Sagacious (talk) 16:14, 21 July 2006 (PDT)

Skellie names

There's a list on the German wiki of the skellie names, which is ordered by colour, although it might be different on the OOO servers. --Nicksterv 15:23, 31 July 2006 (PDT)

Dates

What do you guys think of having a page with notable dates? Or like, every date has a page, like on wikipedia? It could be things like: August 7, 2003: Former queen of No Homers, Greasy, begins playing. September 30, 2006: 10th Black Death Tournament held. Or whatever, you get the idea. --Lizzie 01:21, 21 September 2006 (PDT)

you mean a time-line of notible evens? that could be risky, as what do you really class as a notible event, ye could end up with stuff such as 21 September, 2006 10:06:56 GMT: Greenie XYZ beat Greenie QPT for first time... I PWNZ! StoneKrush 02:06, 21 September 2006 (PDT)
I guess anything that is mentioned in this wiki - but we could draw the line on players to have to be Monarchs or Governors maybe or something? And yeah, basically a timeline. --Lizzie 03:00, 21 September 2006 (PDT)

Jobber pay added to the Blockade article

Done. --Flamer 07:25, 8 November 2006 (PST)

Just finished Event blockades as well, feel free to edit mercilessly. --Flamer 09:01, 9 November 2006 (PST)

Floorplans

At long last, I have a way to describe and display floorplans. Please take a look at User:Barrister/Sandbox4. There a few things that should probably be tweaked:

  • I'm not sure the letters FHOWX are the best choices.
  • I'll need better images because mine won't work for people who are red/green colorblind.
  • There needs to be a template for each room size. The good news is that:
    • (1) there are a lot of common room sizes.
    • (2) I wrote a program to create the templates for me.
  • There's a ton of data that needs to be gathered. I'll write up a how-to so people know the best ways. (You need a sink, a tap, and a fish skeleton for optimal data gathering.)

As always, feedback is welcome. --Barrister 13:38, 24 December 2006 (PST)

Quick image notes for me to use later to improve the images. Higher contrast is needed for the markings in the squares. Possibly simplify the markings as well. Where things are not allowed, the square should always be darker; where things are allowed, the square should always be lighter. This is regardless of wall/floor and will help with consistency & quick recognition. A pattern may be better for differentiation of wall vs floor descriptor tiles in order to truly work for colorblind folks. Hopefully I can try to generate some images this weekend to see if they're appropriate. --Guppymomma 09:26, 5 January 2007 (PST)

Facial Expression

Would an article showing the different expression a pirate can have, including portrait expression, levels of drunkenness, knocked out in rumble etc. be a useful/interesting thing to add to YPPedia? This question came about due to a query in the forums. -- Vorky 18:01, 28 May 2007 (PDT)

Sounds like a neat idea. I think all the portrait ones are already on here (I mean, besides on everyone's pirate pages...), and many of the others are as well. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 19:08, 28 May 2007 (PDT)
I think the portrait ones are tagged as interface image ones, so try looking in that category if you want to use them on a page. I'm sure it'd be a useful page. --Guppymomma 19:11, 28 May 2007 (PDT)

canned message for "forced refresh"

per the note in the "misc." section...

I presume you're talking about "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:BYPASS". if so, here's what I've got so far:

"Ahoy there! Just a friendly note to let you know that once you've uploaded a new version of an image, you may need to do what's called a "forced refresh" on your computer. You can read more about this on Wikipedia's article about this. Fair winds!"

presuming this is indeed what you want, I can go ahead and fix this up.  ;-)   just wanted confirmation, first.
