When The Levee Breaks is a dormant crew on the Meridian Ocean, flying the flag of Barely Dressed. The crew's motto "Have fun, make friends, play better!" reflects the three main goals of this crew.

History

When The Levee Breaks was founded by Karver and Pjewels on the 22nd of April, in 2011, on the former Viridian Ocean.

Careers and promotions

In order to achieve those goals, and understanding that not everyone has the same abilities, time availability, or expectations from the game, the idea of careers was implemented.

These naturally come up from the evaluation of the crew member's performance, be it at playing the puzzles, social interactions, pro-activity, etc., balanced with the player's own expectations about the game and the crew.

Careers will relate mostly to the Officer and Fleet Officer rank attribution.

Crew mates, regardless of rank, are expected to be cooperative and make the crew a pleasant and constructive place to be.

Although there are guidelines, the crew captain has the final say about rank promotions.

All careers

Cabin person

  • No special requirements

The goal at this rank is to get reasonably acquainted with the fundamentals of the game and in particular on the set of three basic piracy puzzles: Sailing, Bilging and Carpentry (SBC).

Pirate

Exceptionally good Gunning stats may override these requirements.

The goal at this rank is to have skilled players, eventually with some specialization, and get them well prepared for the officer ranks.

Military career

Officer

  • Required experience: one Broad and two Solids at SBC, Narrow at Gunning
  • Required standing: no Ables and one Master at SBC, Respected at Gunning

A test will be carried out by an assigned upper officer (meaning Fleet Officer and above) before the crew mate is allowed to command a ship larger than a sloop, even if it's their own.

The goals at this rank are to fully understand the puzzle interactions that make a ship work successfully and being ready to command and sail a ship for pillaging and battle.

Fleet officer

  • Required experience: Narrow at both Duty Navigation and Battle Navigation in addition to Officer requirements
  • Required standing: Respected at both Duty Navigation and Battle Navigation in addition to Officer requirements

This rank requires the trust from the Captain and SOs, so time with the crew is necessary, to demonstrate the crew mate capabilities and commitment to the crew. Getting acquainted with Battle Navigation at blockades is recommended.

Senior officer

  • By the captain's sole discretion

Typically, these will be the people that share with the Captain the responsibility of running the crew, participate in high level decisions, strategies, counseling, and so on. Of these, the First Mate will take the place of the Captain in his absence.

Merchant career

Officer

  • Required experience: two Broads and one Solid at SBC, Narrow at Gunning
  • Required standing: no Ables at SBC, Respected at Gunning

A test will be carried out by an assigned upper officer (meaning Fleet Officer and above) before the crew mate is allowed to command a ship larger than a sloop, even if it's their own.

The goals at this rank are to fully understand the puzzle interactions that make a ship work successfully, and being ready to command and sail a ship with special focus on battle avoidance to safeguard the carried goods.

Fleet and senior officers

  • By the captain's sole discretion

Diplomatic and court careers

  • All ranks at these careers are by the captain's sole discretion

These careers are not aimed at direct ship sailing or battle but rather as support for the social life of the crew, both foreign (Diplomatic) and domestic (Court).

Crew articles

  1. DO NOT BOARD a ship on sea without asking (and getting!) Permission To Board (PTB). Use crew chat for asking. Typically you'll say something like "ptb Lonely Tuna" where Lonely Tuna is the name of the ship you wish to board, and you should then wait for a reply to your request. Boarding without permission may get you planked from the ship, demoted, or even expelled from the crew at more serious circumstances. You've been warned. PTB is also recommended if the ship is docked with someone aboard.
  2. DO NOT LEAVE during battle unless you have a VERY good reason to do so. This weakens the ship might and places the whole ship at danger. If you REALLY must go, please explain the situation to the ship's commander. The commander may then try to replace you with a bot by planking you, but this shouldn't be taken as a punishment. On the contrary, if you leave without any warning, at the very least you will have your share of the booty diminished.
