2026 Halloween events
The 2026 Halloween events began on the 16th of October, 2026, with the opening of the Smilin’ Jim’s Gambit! competition. As in previous years, masks could be purchased from the palace shoppe, along with black and orange top hats and vampire raiment.
Smilin’ Jim’s Gambit!

Pirates on all oceans were divided into four teams - pirates from the same crew were all placed in the same team. The team names each made reference skeletons. During the course of the event, most brigands on a pillage were replaced by skeletons. Pirates participated by defeating roving groups of skeletons on land in sword-fight fray or in sea battles - each pirate won individual trophies for the number of skeletons eliminated by the team in fray or ships they were on. This meant that pillages with larger ships would contribute more to the team, as greater numbers of individuals would be encountered per battle. Smilin’ Jim himself could be seen walking the islands infested by skeleton groups and would occasionally join the sword fights during pillage. If defeated, Smilin’ Jim would issue a rematch challenge. Player captain could choose to re-engage the enemy ship for a second time. Upon victory players were awarded a trophy.
To help pirates in pillaging with their team-mates, all jobs on the notice board included the team icon of the crew offering the job. The standings for each team were regularly tallied and updated on a special "Competition!" tab of the notice board.
The following messages were displayed when Smilin’ Jim was around:
- Brigand ship with Smilin’ Jim on board is engaged: Darkness veils the sea and a grim chuckling is heard. Smilin' Jim be near!
- The ship is grappled: Smilin' Jim says, "Every enemy I've met I've annihilated!"
- Smilin’ Jim was eliminated: Smilin' Jim says, "Oof! Impressive! But it ain't over yet!"
- The battle is won: Smilin' Jim says, "So, ye think ye've bested Ol' Jim? Well, how 'bout a rematch with ME REAL CREW?!"
- The ship is re-engaged for rematch: The sea goes black as Smilin' Jim summons sturdy hands from El Pollo Diablo itself!
- The rematch sword-fight starts: Smilin' Jim says, "Brazen mortals, feel me wrath anew!"
- The rematch is won: Smilin' Jim says, "Ye've not seen the last o' me! There be no shortage o' bones."
Smilin’ Jim used the following phrases when spotted on land and was asked to move:
- Smilin' Jim tells ye, "Ha! I won't bend to yer will so easily. A curse upon ye! ...though I did fancy movin' over here anyway."
- Smilin' Jim tells ye, "Ye don't order me about, whelp! A curse for yer cheek! ...but aye, this spot suits me better regardless."
- Smilin' Jim tells ye, "Seek not what the dead 'ave to say. Begone!"
- Smilin' Jim tells ye, "Seek ye a place in me righteous crew? Nay? Then scupper off, skin-bag!"
- Smilin' Jim tells ye, "Comin' face to face with me must leave ye petrified!"
- Smilin' Jim tells ye, "Bah! Ye think ye can command me? A curse upon yer bones! ...still, I was headed that way meself."
Results
Trophies were awarded to the participating members of each team who finished in each position.
