Deletion of Guppymommas Message

Sorry but I didn't like the "flow" of that message. =x I totally get what it means though.

This is an encyclopedia, not a newspaper. Quite simply, it's how we do things here. Bylines are out of place, and if everyone put one on every of their contributions, half the content would be signatures. If you would like to do things differently, you may wish to register a geocities account instead of trying your luck here. I can appreciate that you do work hard on your articles, but it's inappropiate to add "bylines" or signatures to articles, and it's likely to stay that way. --Ponytailguy 21:23, 10 October 2006 (PDT)

The "by" lines

Ahoy! (I've copied this note from Guppymomma's talk page.) Edits to articles are not signed because this is an encyclopedia. Anything you write here becomes public domain and is open to be edited to other people. Generally, it's a bad idea to consider any articles as "yours" - they will be edited by other people at some point. If you start from the beginning knowing that you're offering information up to the public, it helps to avoid hurt feelings later if your edits are ever reverted or changed by other people. This is not a glamorous hobby. ;) It's true that most readers will never know who actually created the article - that's the way wikis work. As you noted, the wiki software automatically tracks edits to pages, so adding a note to the main article is redundant. If you want total control over the appearance of your page, and final say on what does and doesn't get onto it, you don't want the YPPedia, you want private web hosting. If you want to use our services, you'll have to play by our rules, and one of these rules is that we don't use bylines, at least not for article contents. (Attributing fan art to an artist or "Here's an important quote from Homullus" is different. Hoya. I'm glad to hear that I made sense. It was very early in the morning for me when I wrote that note. ;) PTG is a friend, but I don't need to speak with him. I'm pretty sure he's aware that the discussion should not be continued. As you may have noticed, he's displaying admirable self control and has not responded to your last message. It'd really be best if you did the same - there's no need to call him rude and such. Talk pages may be personal property, but they're still very public. Line breaks

The wiki uses its own special formatting where it ignores single line breaks. If you want a single line break, you've gotta use <br>. I'll illustrate this below if you're not sure what I mean. I don't think we've got this on our editing help page, I'll have to add it sometime. I hope this bit helps with formatting pages. --Guppymomma 20:05, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
