Category talk:Malachite Ocean crews
From YPPedia
this Category needs to be retired
This Ocean is no more; therefore, this Category eventually needs to be retired (as per this conversation). -- Franklincain (t/c) 09:11, 3 July 2013 (PDT)
- Oppose deletion of a useful historical category. Chupchup 20:44, 3 July 2013 (PDT)
- I also oppose the deletion of this Category page based on the same reason given by LJ. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 16:53, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
- As this is a page for active crews, the crews in the list should be updated. Any crews that cannot be found on the merged ocean should be marked defunct. Once everything is actually updated, this category will become empty. At that point it should be deleted (there is no history to be lost in that case, as the history section does not record addition or removal of pages to the category). --Thunderbird 18:13, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- Sounds like an idea! I'll do that when I can. :) Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 02:15, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- The problem is that some of the crews were renamed, and since the crewids from Malachite were changed, it won't always be possible to be sure if a crew was deleted or renamed. So, I feel weird about messing with it. (You can sometimes get around the problem by searching for crew members to see if they happen to be in a crew with the same founding date, but that would be a pain in the butt and won't always work.) --Budclare2 02:40, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- There's that, I s'pose... The issue of Senior Officers changing or leaving.... *pouts* Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 12:42, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- It looks like not all crew IDs were changed. I just updated Ancient Hunters and found the crewid there was still the same. Also, I should point out that deleting a category does not actually affect the category list. It only affects anything written above it. --Thunderbird 15:54, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- I have noticed that that is the case for several crews when I update them, Thunder. It's interesting. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 17:15, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- I asked for the Yoweb shortcuts from the old oceans to be restored - as they broke after the move to Grey Havens. Seems they've restored the forwarding :) --Sagacious (talk) 04:43, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
- That's a separate issue. The links still won't work on broken ids. --Budclare2 06:15, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

- That's because someone already updated the crewid on that one. --Budclare2 06:15, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
- Upon further checking, I have found that the CrewID parameters do NOT seem to have been as widely changed if it was on the east side of the merged oceans. Category:Viridian Ocean crews & Category:Hunter Ocean crews YoWeb links go directly to the right pages for the several checks I did. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 15:14, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- The older ocean of each pair kept its ids. --Budclare2 05:44, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, so that's what the numbers mean for the CrewID/FlagID. The higher the number, the newer the Crew/Flag! Good to know! Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 12:13, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
