Ponytailguy

Vote here (4/0/2) ending 03:55 May 20th (UTC)

Ponytailguy (talk • contribs) – Frankly, I just want the revert button. I'll admit that my wiki markup is shaky at best, but I don't think I've ever broken a page, I've made signifigant contributions to a fair number of pages, and while I don't have much in the way of adminship aspirations, that revert button is mighty tempting. I've also helped a few people set up events or use the wiki for the first time, but that's something I do anyway. I never know what to put in these things, and I feel bad enough having self-nominated, so I'll quit while I'm ahead. Ponytailguy 16:57, 13 May 2006 (PDT)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: Self-nomination, so naturally, darling. --Ponytailguy 17:02, 13 May 2006 (PDT)

Support

  1. Ponytailguy's contributions to the wiki have been solid and diverse. His game experience is certainly broad, if not as long as many of the other administrators. While we have clashed in the past on ocassion regarding some issues, his commitment to improving the wiki, his demonstrable ability to work with groups, and his increasing maturity and skill at avoiding and smoothing over confrontation have garnered him my vote.--Fiddler 20:30, 13 May 2006 (PDT)
  2. I echo Fiddler's sentiments. Ponytailguy has definitely improved his previously more abrasive demeanor and honed his wiki skills in a very community consensus kind of way. There's always room for improvement and I believe that he will continue to mature even more. He's also attempted to add small touches to various templates & things that help make the wiki a friendlier spot that gently encourages newcomers to learn more & get involved in the correct way (even if they started in the wrong way). --Guppymomma 21:03, 13 May 2006 (PDT)
  3. Ponytailguy has a strong, substantial list of contributions throughout all namespaces and has shown a helpful attitude for several months. My experiences in the game, on the forums, and on the wiki with him have been positive, and I can't see any reason to oppose his adminship request. --Yaten talk 19:17, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
  4. I echo the above statements. —Sivius(T/C) 15:25, 15 May 2006 (PDT)

Oppose

Neutral

  1. While Teeg certainly exhibits plenty of Admin qualities, and has a level of grammar which impresses me, the tentativeness of his request means that I can't really support it; the revert button is nice, but it's just a minor implement of convenience: It's not a big enough thing to seek adminship over. Still, because I think Teeg would do just fine as an Admin anyway, I won't oppose it. I guess it comes down to whether Adminship is something is something which should be limited to those who would use its privilages liberally and effectively, or should be extended to those who wouldn't use it much, but would never abuse it (I'm not sure how I fall on that). --Emufarmers 17:13, 13 May 2006 (PDT)
If anything, though, I would suggest that the fact that the adminship wouldn't change a whole lot about how I use the wiki is somewhat of a good thing... I already do a lot of productive stuff that I've been recognized for, and I'm willing to shoulder some admin duties, but my heart lies with content creation as opposed to shifting maps or doing massive rename projects. Feel free to change your vote to "Oppose because he doesn't like the boring administrative stuff", but that's where I stand. :) --Ponytailguy 17:19, 13 May 2006 (PDT)
  2. Good quality edits, but nothing to make Teeg stand out from the crowd, in my books. --Featherfin 06:51, 14 May 2006 (PDT)

Comments

  • You don't need the revert button to revert, just edit a previous revision and save it without making any changes. --Thunderbird 17:10, 13 May 2006 (PDT)
I'm aware of this, as my contrib log should indicate. Call me lazy, I guess. --Ponytailguy 17:14, 13 May 2006 (PDT)
  • So there's a couple of you out there who I know for a fact have read this, but haven't voted yet. And that scares me. Please don't get me wrong... if you're just collecting your thoughts, or don't want to vote until you've really sat down and assessed my contribs log, or whatever else, take your time. But one of you in particular I think is holding back because they don't want to hurt my feelings. And honestly, I'd rather know what people think of me and what I need to improve than have my emotions sheltered. Please, go ahead and vote, even if you're voting against me. I'm a big boy, I can take it ;) --Ponytailguy 18:26, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
Patience, grasshopper =P. --Thunderbird 19:16, 14 May 2006 (PDT)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. The usual stuff. Tracking recent changes, fixing templates, helping with visual appearance and aesthetics, and catching and correcting ambiguous phrasing. (Which is actually probably where the bulk of my real wiki experience is)
2. Of your articles or contributions to YPPedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. Well, in terms of pure writing and content generation, I like what I've done with event and bakeoff. I'm also responsible for the duty/carousing/labour puzzle templates (which, if nothing else, illustrates that I can create and use templates and wiki markup attractively and efficiently.) and I've added signifigant portions to the puzzle standing page. My current (but slow) project is captaincy, which I'm working on as things come to me, but I'm proud of so far. I've also assembled a bunch of tutorials like the one for 3DS-Max that Guppy used to assemble the rendered eggs for Prometheus' egg design event, as well as the wiki tips for event planners, which is more general but still quite thorough, and sounds like it might be going into the official event toolkit in one form or another.
