Gunnerfreak

Vote here (2/1/0) ended 15:23 April 11, 2017 (UTC)

Gunnerfreak (talk • contribs) – I am an avid player with over six and a half years of gameplay experience. Also, I have significant experience with wiki-ing having edited several hundred pages over three accounts. (Found here, Zombiehunt & Skellyzhunt.) Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 15:23, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept my self-nomination. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 15:39, 4 April 2017

Support

  1. Support for now. After reviewing the last few weeks of talk page interactions, I have reinforced my opinion that Gunnerfreak is helpful and humble in his demeanor towards fellow editors. It cannot be ignored that he has registered voluminous constructive edits on this otherwise very quiet Wiki. Notwithstanding the insignificant nature of these improvements, Gunnerfreak has proven to me beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is a dedicated and hardworking mate who is committed to the mission of better documenting the game. His presence is vastly preferable to the palpable absence of many other player admins, and represents a real boon to the continuing viability of this project, even as the game itself suffers noticeable declines in player participation across all oceans. 2. Support. I believe that Gunnerfreak would be an asset to the admin team, the fact the he is so dedicated to keeping the Yppedia up to date when so few people still play at all, shows he deserves the responsibility. Ronenosden

Oppose

  1. Oppose. The demeanor issue I brought up last time hasn't really improved. Being in a position that has any additional power (or perception of authority) tends to make one a target for flames (I say this from experience from having done stuff like this for several sites), and it is necessary to be able to deal with this without fanning the flames. --Thunderbird 16:33, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Comments

  • Last time, I forgot to add the fact I've been editing on a couple other accounts prior to this one. Oops.. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 15:39, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
I must say that I am unable to detect the demeanor problem which Thunderbird alludes to here. His previous comment described one incident which was a personal interaction. I have had many favorable personal interactions with Gunnerfreak, and I am inclined to support his adminship, especially in view of the hard work he has been doing for many months now that nobody else has stepped up for. It is a real problem that so many of our player volunteer admins have long deserted this project. The commensurate lack of other players updating the Wiki does make for a quieter job, but I would contend that we need to concentrate on cultivating relationships with people who are willing to help and do a lot of grunt work. If one of these hard workers is willing to take up the mop and bucket and be a willing servant, then so much the better. So, if Thunderbird really does expect his "Oppose" vote to have some weight he should probably provide evidence such as diffs that prove there is a real and intractable demeanor issue preventing Gunnerfreak from adequately discharging his duties with higher privileges than he already has. I look at general interactions with everybody, including potentially problematic users. When I see an edit like this occur (which was later moved to the Gunnerfreak pirate page, and then had the HTML comment removed by me 3 days later), that creates a heavy negative factor (one that would lead me to oppose future nominations for quite some time). Even though volunteer player administrators are not on the payroll of Grey Havens, it is possible for us to have a sizeable effect on the customer experience (which is probably one of the reasons that a good support record is required in order for a player to be given administrator rights). I will also note that there are a handful of tools that do a lot of the gruntwork that doesn't need administrator rights, requiring the administrator to do nothing more than click a couple buttons. I don't see Gunnerfreak doing much of this, especially as of late. As a side note, if there are any admin-only things which don't have an easy way for ordinary users to be able to do most of the setup (the main example being the misnamed image template before it was altered to include a move link), I'm all ears. --Thunderbird 04:49, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
That commented-out bit was pretty tame considering. (I called the same person annoying on someone else's talk page. I'll never apologize for that. After he stalked me on my ocean and got in my face, I'm entitled to call him annoying once. Stalking is crossing the line. And he only stopped because no one has touched his precious page since then, which he thinks is because he actually somehow won.) You had no actual contact with the person in question, and only know how he treated us here, not in-game. If you have other problems with Gunner, fine, but judging him based on that commented-out bit...that makes zero sense. It seems an awful lot like you're holding other people to a stand of behavior that no one, including you, could actually live up to. --Budclare2 05:44, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
As I said before, Thunderbird, I did not mean my summary about tagging CSD images to sound snarky or anything. In any case, I should have worded it outright that I integrated your suggestion into my editing routine. Also, yes, about calling out Fedorov... I admit that was out of line a bit there. I apologise. At the time of the edit given, I was rather ticked off that Fedorov took to stealing a name of one of my purged pirates and basically threatening to harrass me and others in-game. Still, it was not an appropriate place to blow off steam, even if it was commented out. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 12:13, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I'm hoping to take over any chores that dormant admins have not been doing, if needed. With my frequent active presence, I believe I can help with that.
2. Of your articles or contributions to YPPedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. Some contributions I am (still) proud of are these, as well as the following:
1:Adding a new parameter to Ships Template for Bribe costs.
2:Adding new articles for Greedy Pillagers activity pages.
3:Adding a new template for Ice Ocean releases.
4:Adding an overlooked Trophy for the Seattle meet.
