Woodhallow Isle, or werewolf dens, are a type of expedition. Groups of pirates aboard a small ship (a cutter or smaller) fight through up to six waves of the werewolf pack, plundering and charting between them, and push as deep into the wood as they dare.

Finding the isle

To find the werewolves' secret den on Woodhallow Isle, players will first need to obtain a Wolf-skull Wayfinder. A Wolf-skull Wayfinder is a compass that is placed in one's inventory.

Wolf-skull wayfinders can be obtained from series VIII Black Boxes, available for a price of 10,000 PoE each from the Black Market. A Wolf-skull Wayfinder is also won by a random player when a player team beats a werewolf fray. This replaces the sea monster map that is rewarded normally from monster frays.

Wolf-skull Wayfinders degrade in three days from the time that they are obtained.

When placed on the navigation table of a small ship (a cutter or smaller), the Wolf-skull Wayfinder will trigger an expedition to the werewolf ship. Engaging the werewolf ship in battle and winning the rumble fight will reveal the location of Woodhallow Isle. If the battle is won or lost, the Wayfinder will disappear; if the player ship disengages, the Wayfinder will be lost as well.

Near a full moon, werewolf ships will also turn up while pillaging. Beat three in a row, and the last will reveal Woodhallow Isle's location.

Sail to the specified league point to plunder the werewolves den.

Plundering the den

When a ship reaches Woodhallow Isle, the officers in charge of the ship can choose to enter the expedition. All pirates on board are automatically transferred ashore.

There are six night cycles. Each cycle opens with a pack of wolf-kin, some already turned werewolf by the moon. Werewolves have been enhanced by the power of the moon and will have red names, and pose a tougher challenge. Win the rumble, then forage or navigate until the next pack arrives. The location of the foraging and navigating stations change with each cycle as you make your way further into the den. The more of ye still standing after a fray, the more time ye will get to forage and navigate.

The purpose of foraging is to bring in the treasure (PoE and items, including special exclusive werewolf loot). Clear four pieces inside the new moon piece and it fires, clearing out the rows beside it and the columns below in a + formation. Wolf Boxes, Lunar Lockers and Dire Chests grow richer the deeper ye go, and the lair (reached on the sixth night cycle) is the richest of all.

Navigation fights the moon: every werewolf ye chart away is one fewer in the next pack. It plays at the middle star level whatever yer rating, with a fourth ring, and wild targets made by clearing in chains.

Getting out

Win the lair and ye keep every chest, with time to roam before the ship sails.

An officer can order a Retreat: the crew falls back before the next pack, keeping all earlier treasure and three quarters of the current cycle's.

Lose a rumble and ye keep three quarters of the earlier treasure and a quarter of the current cycle's.

Werewolf exclusives

Certain clothing items, furniture items, and trinkets can only be obtained from the Werewolf expeditions. The items are given out in the treasure chests obtained upon porting.

Clothing

A Werewolf Captain's Hat can be won as prize items from the hauled treasure chests. These hats require a pirate to be Officer and above in a crew, as well as have a Badge to be worn. It is also possible to win a hunter chroma, which may be used to change a single color on a single item of clothing to hunter.

Furniture

These are found only in treasure chests from the werewolf expeditions. They cannot be purchased at a furnisher. Some of these items could be won from past Mystery Boxes or were available via a furniture design at the trading post.

In addition, there are normal furniture items available in a huntsman color scheme.

The Moonlit Locker and the Pack Chest were added with release 2026-10-22; both of these, and the small chest (huntsman) work as chests providing access to yer coffers, while the Wolf Box acts as a doubloon exchange.

Trinkets

Werewolf-themed trinkets are available from treasure chests.

Note that with release 2026-10-22, werewolf expedition trinkets now count as "Collector trinkets".
