Template talk:Chart Arch Jet (Midnight)

From YPPedia

So, with images working, this is about what we can expect from charting templates (mine, at least). Before I dump any more time into them, does anyone besides me think they'll be useful for arch and island pages? (note: minor issue with horizontal leagues due to more image problems. Imagine that they're solid) --AtteSmythe 07:20, 1 August 2005 (PDT)

Nice crafting Atte! But I do have to wonder at it's usefulness. I think the ASCII-like nature detracts: images/maps should be consistent with the game (as long as they exist in game) for easiest use. I think the best way to go is with overlays allowed by mediawiki. Mediawiki help pages describe how to superimposing text and images on maps, which sounds like exactly what we want for these things. The background image could be taken from a screenshot in game. — Callistan (talk/contrib) 13:39, 1 August 2005 (PDT)
The one thing I like about generating them in templates is that we can display more information than is available on in-game charts. Since the template syntax only uses every second parameter (see below), we can color islands by arch colors, routes by difficulty, and display island sizes. Perhaps I should fire up an in-game chart and copy its graphics to get the look-and-feel a bit closer... my concern with making graphics, if we don't go with screenies, is that if the first contributer stops making them, the next round of oceans may end up with a completely different look on the wiki. Maybe the extra info isn't more important than ease of updating, though. --AtteSmythe 14:02, 1 August 2005 (PDT)

Here's the current syntax (Jet as an example, again):

I like the rationale for the template. Diamondblade's Cobalt/Viridian charts are still missing 1 route, and no one can update them. --Barrister 14:20, 1 August 2005 (PDT)
